I'm both a modder and reverse engineer of this game and I know for a fact NSMBUDX takes more time to load levels, at the very least, and that is because they are using RGBA8 textures for the tilesets, whereas the original NSMBU used BC3. The former (a tileset in NSMBUDX) is bigger in size, so it takes longer to decompress, because all files are compressed with an algorithm called Yaz0. Additionally, in NSMBU, all of the level's resources are in one file, whereas in NSMBUDX, they are separated into multiple folders. Therefore, the former (NSMBU) only needs a single file read, while the latter (NSMBUDX) needs multiple file reads. I have been researching NSMBUDX ever since it was released, so I'm pretty confident in what I'm saying. Also, for those of you who are defending NSMBUDX because of the sdcard, watch any gameplay online that runs from a cartridge and you will see that NSMBUDX on the Switch is still slower than NSMBU on the Wii U. NSMBUDX _really is_ the inferior version between the two.
Man I’m really disappointed that Nintendo would make an inferior version of an old game on newer hardware that is capable of loading much faster than the Wii U version.
@@riton349 For the first change, RGBA8 gives better quality since BC3 is a lossy compression. (BC3, while lossy, is still good, so the difference is not that big) For the second change, I didn't really do an actual comparison of the following, but I think it makes the overall filesize for the entire game smaller. (but if such difference exists, I doubt it's big)
Especially now that games put effort on giving high quality picture to use for loading screens. This feature should've been on the Switch too, since it's used a lot nowdays
The biggest flaw with the WiiU IMO is that it takes forever to load into games, and even the menus have long load times. But at least we got cool loading screens because of that.
Don’t get me wrong: I love my switch to death, but for me it just doesn’t have the charm like the Wii U did. For example, the Wii U home menu, while yes it was gimmicky, still had its own personality and identity that separated it from the rest of the crowd. And also the loading screens had those cool little jingles before games started up. The switch is definitely faster and more professional, but it just feels like every other modern game console
the wii u home menu was adorable. everything about the wii u is so charming and unique, from it's music to the user interface to the games that it's a huge shame how bad it flopped.
@@RaichuDude2006 Expressive. That's why nintendo exists. It USED to seperate itself from the crowd, but now it feels like the Switch is to make money, not to charm its users. The Wii U had some of the best titles, and that's why they were ported to switch, but now even THEY look less expressive... Compare the loading screen on the Wii U and the Switch. On the Switch, it's just a dull.... "NOW LOADING" but on the Wii U however, there's a cute blue baby yoshi and tips you can use. Point is, it feels like nintendo has changed.
@@kirberburgy they did because they have no competition, they're the only company making portable consoles so they don't try to stand out anymore, because they know everyone is going to buy their games anyways
well, they release it again cause not a lot of people had a Wii U, so i dont get why people are complaining about the 60 dollar ports when just because they owned a Wii U, doesnt mean everyone else did
Reasonable. Just thought I'd give some insight. I never owned the original but thw original had more extra content. The switch version ia actually missing content and made 4 player multiplayer more of an annoying experience for experienced players. Toadette is too easy and Nabbit is the other option. So the switch version is kind of a pain. It didn't have to add anything, but improving upon things such as the presentation could have been better.
@@kartuz0 Yeah, I'm surprised no one's calling out how uneven this test is. No info on the speed of the SD Card, when cartridges would almost always load faster, while also having the console in portable mode where the cpu is ~30% weaker. Then you see comments claiming that this is the case for every switch to wii u game which just isn't true.

@@benr8071 no it didnt, the black Wii u became the main model and the white one stopped being sold, eventually games were included with every black Wii U for 299.99 after the first two years or so iirc
@@dizzyiou I absolutely agree with that. It may be possible by either some kind of dongle or by adding a disc drive on the dock. The only other thing nintendo should add is virtual console with gamecube. There it will be absolutely unstoppable.
I found another difference between NSMBU for Wii U and Switch: In Wii U version, on the credits screen with Bubble baby Yoshi coin collecting minigame the bubbles can be popped on the touchscreen even if you play only with one Wii U Gamepad. In the Switch version, you cannot pop bubbles on credits screen with touchscreen while playing in portable mode.
Omg I miss my Wii U now, that console was so underrated. The remasters of Zelda Twilight Princess and Wind Waker were so pretty and awesome, specially for someone who was playing the games for the first time like me.
Agreed. Not to mention both better and free internet on games like splatoon; it was a blast. The hardware of the gamepad is way more comfortable than a switch and I'd rather get a portable WiiU gamepad than a switch
I love the Wii U’s loading screens. Wii U for the win! Edit: Yikes, looks like some people can’t handle an opinion that isn’t “ Wii U bad switch good” 😂
@@Amexy-mr6lw mario 3d world, mario kart 8, new super mario bros u, captain toad, donkey kong, hyrule warriors, zelda botw, splatoon, pikmin 3, fe, you want me to continue?
the Wii U is a really underrated console. I think it should really have tried to go for DS/DSI/3DS games on the big screen with physical and digital compatibility. trust me if that was in the advertising people would want it, especially if it were like a New 3ds
As much as how I like the deluxe edition for its crisp 1080p docked and even a clearer resolution on handheld compared to the Wii U gamepad, I still sort of prefer the Wii U version, but since I can barely tell the difference when I'm not comparing the two directly, I still love playing the Deluxe Edition nonetheless!
I personally never owned a WII U, but I never thought it was a bad console. I loved playing it at my friend's house. I think it just didn't sell well because of the notoriously bad marketing.
@@xKraziKai its not portable Portable consoles are those you can bring and play anywhere Non-portable are those that always need to be connected The PSP is portable The PS3 is not The Switch is portable but the dock doesn't make it faster neither Non-portable The WII U is Non-portable, but the Gamepad is a controller, not a console
there the same game just ultimate has more characters not to mention smash 4's weird thing where they will ban you if you target a player to much. But I'm not trying to say I don't like smash 4. It was the smash I grew up with and remembered fondly. I still play online a lot and enjoy collecting trophies. Not to mention most of the roster is unlocked at the start which is very convenient compared to smash ultimate where you have to grind until you get the character you want to play as. Also online is a lot more confusing and stupid than in smash 4.
I never owned a Wii U, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a better console than the Switch (for it's time). I think what killed it was the lack of third party support and the way it was marketed (people thought it was just a updated version of the Wii they already owned, or that it was a system only for kids). That being said, I still love playing on my Switch.
What's really sad is that much of that third party support was lost due to them just ASSUMING, Nintendo was gonna print them money at a time when every console was crashing in sales and games were barely turning a profit. The Wii U was not perfect but for some reason a lot of companies just assumed it was. The one that sticks out to me most was that Ubisoft took many of it's Nintendo Exclusive properties multi Platform due to their games not selling well at the time. Which included such hits as. Zombies U.
Seriously, they should've gone Run style. The only things better on the Switch are the blue panel to save after a level and the strip telling the world's name when you unlock a new one. Also cuz Switch UI still uses elements from Wii U's so it's inconsistent aswell. Overall I think 3D World handled the situation better
It's almost certainly for people who didn't get the Wii U and thus didn't get to play it originally. The Wii U didn't sell too well so there's a big market for good games on the Wii U that people want to play but never had the chance too
Nice video, the Wii U was such an underrated console, can you do it again, but with a cartridge, so that we could see what would happen if it was done with a cartridge instead?
Nice demonstration, but as others have pointed out, they're fundamentally not the same game. 9 out of 10 times, a remaster/re-release will take longer to load than the original.
@Lucas Ziska's Music Production its pretty much the same but •they removed blue toad and replaced it with toadette and gave her a special powerup •tiny graphic upscale •that boost mode platform thingy removed •nabbit can be used in Mario U instead of just luigi u
People complaining about Wii U just makes no sense to me. Maybe the commercials was cringe and bad to alot of people but the console itself looks amazing! Never had a Wii U but wanted one never got one then after Switch released I bought it a year later and I still kinda want a Wii U just to be able to play Wii games with much better graphics and play newer games on it aswell.
It seems like most Wii U ports/sequels have faster initial loading times, but are slower in every other instance. Splatoon 2 follows this example, and I think Mario Maker 2 does as well.
Indeed As I got used to play smash on my Wii U gamepad for me was so hard to get used to play with joy-cons even plugged with the console in an attempt to simulate the Wii U gamepad, and all because sticks position and the L, R, ZR, and ZL buttons
I've tried with an overclocked Switch on the max on both docked and portable mode (max overclock changes between portable and dock but made no difference in this test) and i found this: Dock and Portable: On boot - same time as a normal switch. On loading save file and map - same time as on Wii U On loading the first level - 1 second slower than Wii U but a half second faster than switch. On dying in the same place as the video - Half second slower than Wii U and about 2 seconds faster than switch. Hope it helps!
@@Lojalny they stopped making games on the Wii U. Now if you see a game that you want you won’t be able to get it, also the graphics are gonna be worse
wow how did you make that menu in nintendo switch in the beginning? can you tell me please, I see a lot of videos where at the beginning of the menu and the background are like that, plus the buttons are swapped so how to do it?
I think the Wii U Version is just better. I mean they're both good but the Wii U has got an extra challenge, Loads faster, No purple space for Nabbit (Hold L+R when loading a level), The boost pads (That's why for the extra challenge pack), And Blue Toad is his own character !(Toadette is replaced and Player 1, 2, 3, and 4 cannot be 2 toads at the same time). Overall, They're both really good versions despite the switches load time but I'll always stick with my Wii U. Pretty odd choice for a console.
If for whatever reason you were playing both versions of the game interchangeably then you would, but if you only ever play the Switch version then you won't give a fuck
The Wii U’s splash screens, complete with loading music, and sometimes outright seamless launches like with Mario Kart 8, feel like one of the most “next-gen” things Nintendo ever did, even moreso than the Xbox One/Playstation 4 *or* the Xbox Series/Playstation 5, and the Switch feels like a regression in this regard
I love the wii u as much as the switch its sooo underrated.... If it had a netter launch it would have done better.... Plus i think the wiiu loading screens make the wait better
Of course the Switch would be faster to load from the home screen, the Wii U is more than 9 years old now while the switch is just a little over 4 years. So naturally the switch will be able to load the game quicker because of the hardware.
Man Wii u should of stayed the same, just new games like skyrim and diablo that's all. The wii u was satisfying and helped me out when I was suicidal and depressed, my first game ever was marvel Legos, then later on I got minecraft! Was the funniest shit in the world especially when and now I don't have friend's :)
I’m kinda glad I still own my Wii U. Just having gotten my hands on a limited edition copy of Skyward Sword in a collectors condition and being able to actually play it never felt better. Plus; I’m one of the few people that (still) own one.
Technically none is faster than the other. While Wii U has a couple other extra messages, switch doesn't, only loading screens. If we take away the loading screens Wii U would be faster than the Switch. It's a big problem that goes across lots of Switch games. Like ACNL and ACNH. ACNH loads way too slower while ACNL's loading screen goes for about 5 seconds.
He's also running the switch version on not only a Modded Switch, but through the SD Card, which just runs games slower then normal in general. On an actual copy the load times are significantly faster.
@@ricardoespinoza8939 1. The comments 4 months old and 2. Talk to anybody whose ever jailbroke their switch and they'll tell you that they do it on a separate switch, not their main switch.

The only reason the Switch beat the Wii U in booting up the game is because the Wii U has the baby Yoshi telling you what controllers you can use which is completely unnecessary
