Hey Matthew, you're Videos are just amazing! Thank you so much for all the informations and advice! Just one question about the referEE section: As a greenie, shall I also list land-based or long-term daywork? Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to list any referees. And one more thing: how can I use/edit the template or how can I export it to word?

I love you, man.. Let's see how this works. How oow oral exam works? I know yo have a full video explaining the certifications, prices and time, but I can't remember now. I will comeback after watching it again and answer myself next time I see this comment. I hope you are still healthy and sailing.

I've yet to graduate high school but it is my senior year, and I have taken multiple carpentry and collision repair classes. Do you think I should include these? also I have several certifications from Nccer and I-car which we use in these classes should I include those? Or should I mention that I've taken these classes and spin it off as having an understanding of power tools, sanding, filling holes, priming, and painting and not even bothering with the certifications?

I think u're very well educated, have at least a masters degree in teaching and maybe even of noble descendance. I've never seen such good manners in this sector before. In any case, u're a jewel that should decorate the best yachting agency, if u're not already doing it.. Maybe u're even a yacht owner, a millionaire aristocrat, pretending to be a bosun just for fun. U can't be ironing.. U love having fun with others and put your skills to the test. Don't you?.. Adorable! So.. Where do u teach? We'll vote YOU for the professor of the year prize!

You're too kind! I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I only have a bachelor's degree, and come from a middle class family. I only discovered my interest in teaching after starting this channel last year, but I'm happy to learn that you think I'm so good at it! Thank you, enosis.

Hi Matthew, you're doing a great job making these videos! Just a little remark at 9:56 you say "Try to avoid one LETTER items", while you most likely mean "... one WORD..." instead as it is in your CV template. It's all clear and well structured and what amuses me most (I started a yacht career just 7 years ago when I was 39 and joined the industry coming from the middle of Eurasia to South East Asia) that range of things from dealing with hoses and to estimating time and money for your CoC you're covering are taken from real life. These might seem obvious to many who read through tons of MSN's, MGN's, MIN's, you name it, and those, of course, who sails from his childhood, but to a guy like me it's a real fun and support to see you talking and using same ideas, approaches and hints, some of which I had to discover by myself. Thank you.

Hello Vadim. Thank you for commenting and sharing your story. Yes, I should have said "word" instead of "letter"! It's great to hear that you've been finding the videos interesting, and I wish you every success as you continue with your yachting career.

Hi Matthew, I am loving your videos, thank you so much for the wealth of useful information you have provided. it was really easy to hit that subscribe button! How similiar should the intro in my CV be compared to my "about me" on my online profile? I would asume it should not be exactly the same as this could potenialy detratct from the employers interest in my CV. Would this be correct? Thanks so much!
@WorkonaSuperyacht
@WorkonaSuperyacht 3 года назад
Hello Keagan, and welcome to the channel! It's unlikely that an employer will study both your CV and online profile, but you're right about it not being a good idea to simply copy and paste. The introduction of your CV needs to be short and impactful, but the "About Me" section of an online profile can be longer and more detailed. Thank you for supporting the channel!

Hello folks and Matthew, I have watched like 4 videos of these to put together everything to apply to work on a yacht starting on January. I already booked my appt in USA to get my ENG1 medical exam. I have a question: I worked for a cruise line (Norwegian) last year. Can I still use those STWC to apply for the yatch or do I need other type? They are valid for 4 more years. Hope you can help me! Thanks.
@WorkonaSuperyacht

Hello Eunice. Your STCW basic safety training will also be valid on yachts. Here are the courses and codes that should be written on your certificates: Personal Survival Techniques (A-VI/1-1) Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (A-VI/1-2) Elementary First Aid (A-VI/1-3) Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (A-VI/1-4) Proficiency in Security Awareness (A-VI/6-1) I wish you every success with your new career in yachting!

Thanks mate! Do you think there's an age limit for working on yachts? It have been hard to receive a call lastly. I have some previous experience, 34 years old. I don't know if because I'm not in the right place. What to do?
@WorkonaSuperyacht
@WorkonaSuperyacht 2 года назад
There is no official age limit, but it does get harder to attain junior positions as you get older. That being said, I personally know two new deckhands aged 34 and 35 who successfully found their first deckhand position during the summer of this year. Most of the opportunities will be in the USA and Caribbean right now, so B1/B2 visas are going to be in high demand, and you may find getting work more difficult if you don’t have one. Depending on your location, dock walking and networking with existing crew is always a high priority. If that isn’t possible then just keep checking in with the crew agents; then you’ll be the first person they think of when a job comes in! Meantime, keep doing what you can to develop your skills. Watersports, hospitality, carpentry, mechanical skills, etc. Take every opportunity to get involved with anything like this, voluntary or otherwise. It demonstrates initiative, and will be something extra to add to your CV. I wish you all the best with it. Keep going, and something will come up before too long.
@maxyachtmaster
@maxyachtmaster 2 года назад
@@WorkonaSuperyacht it's what I thought. It gets harder. I have some background and my B1 B2 visa. Also YM offshore, PBL2, PDSD, Eng1 and stcw. I'm not in Caribbean that could be a problem. I'm still applying in many agencies. I'm looking forward to get MCA Master 200 or go for the AEC, I know is different it's a matter of money, how much invest. Many yachts ask for AEC they want a deck engineer. Thanks for the attention mate!

Hey just a quick question. The yachting experience seems to be the biggest part of all CVs. So as a young man who has no yachting experience at all (only worked as dive instructor and short term warehouse student jobs) and wants to start in this industry, does it even make sense to make a CV or should i start trying to dockwalk and gain experience with daywork?
@WorkonaSuperyacht
@WorkonaSuperyacht 2 года назад
Hello Benjamin. Even though you don't have any yacht specific experience, you'll still need to write a CV. When you walk the docks looking for work, most yachts will ask that you leave your CV so that they can contact you for any future job opportunities (even if it's only day work). Your CV will help them decide if you're the sort of person that they'd like to have on board, and it also carries your contact details so that they can get in touch. Additionally, your work as a dive instructor makes you significantly more employable than some of the competition. You want to write a CV so that you can advertise this fact and stand out.

Hey how you doing? Just a quick question regarding the stcw elementary first aid. I qualified as an OOW Unlimited obtaining also the proficiency in medical first aid. I was thinking of trying superyacht sometime later. As my elementary first aid is out of date does that mean I have to renew it taking in account that I have the proficiency in medical first aid certificate? :) thanks mate love your videos
@WorkonaSuperyacht
@WorkonaSuperyacht 3 года назад
Hello Francesco, and thanks for your comment. I'm very well, thank you. It is my understanding that the Elementary First Aid certificate doesn't expire. In fact, neither does the Medical First Aid certificate. The only one that requires updating is the Medical Care certificate, which is needed for the Chief Mate and Master Unlimited qualifications. For further information, check out page 11 of MSN 1856, which can be downloaded here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/msn-1856-mf-uk-requirements-for-master-and-deck-officers
