Howdy doody, frienderoonies! Today we're here to explore the new Modal Argon 8m synthesizer. This is a desktop synth module that offers wavetable synthesis and tons of powerful features, all at a pretty low price point making it a pretty budget friendly option into the world of hardware.
Modal hooked me up with a unit to play around with, and in this stream we'll be exploring it for the first time and seeing what we can get out of it!
Stay classy!

Please do more like these if you can find the time. I would have to watch them back but it's something worthwhile to chill down to. Regarding the whole digital vs analog thing: There's no right or wrong if you like the sound. I think that analog Filters are the one thing every digital synth should have. My best guess is that most people like analog synths more for the filters than for the actual VCOs. For the price the modal stuff is nice and if you're looking to replace a vst with hardware.

I think the opposite way when it comes to value of hardware / software synths. You get a customized user interface with hardware and it will function as long as the part wont break. Often times you get free firmware updates to add new functions (Novation, Arturia for example) With software you must map a lot to get it working like u want it to. And if the developer go bankrupt or decide to end support on their software you could loose your favorite plugins to little things like OS updates (32/64bit). And updates for software are mostly available for a fee. Sure u can buy more Software for the price of one Synth and for live use a Laptop is more practicable. But for me software cant replace the feeling of twiddeling "real" knobs and sliders.

And honestly even the Korg volcas have a distinct sound software sounds amazing don't get me wrong but Hardware literally has it's kind of own special sound just my opinion

The biggest problem is software (in)stability combined with (in)stability with OS. For example Maschine mk3 is great software/hardware combination groovebox, but it depends on power of CPU, how many VSTs, effects, you can use and import kits into Maschine DAW or in general into DAW if using software exclusive setup. With hardware you can't surpass limitation of hardware, you know limits and adapt to it, and for the most part it will work because hardware is exclusively made for sound, not using multi-purpose CPU and OS.

Thank you so much.. I just bought this secondhand and this is basically my first hardware synth..So I learned a lot by just watching you fiddling around.. Always a pleasure to follow and see your videos I also have the Tannoy gold.. But in the 8's and they are almost too big for my desk.. But I freaking love that the bass port is in the front.. anyways.. Love from Denmark ♥️

Congrats on your new synth. I was torn between getting the korg opsix or the Modal Cobalt 8x, and I chose the cobalt 8x. Still exploring its full potential as I have only had the synth for under 6 month s. BTW, I really appreciate how helpful your video's are to watch. You get right to the meat of each topic you cover. I am especially thankful for your videos on free doftware synths and plugins. I have definitely taken advantage of your recommendations and I am enjoying the results of those products. It's amazing to me why such powerful synths are basically given away for free. Almost feel guilty of committing some kind of crime. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel and all the topics you cover. You're obviously very talented in what you do, and I have a long road ahead of me to catch up to you. I regret to say I had some very cool synths back in the day that I sadly departed with ( EX: Cascio CZ 101, Sequential circuits Six-Trak, Roland D-20, etc etc) so now I am trying to be smart and hang onto my gear. Thank God i never sold my Juno 106. .lol Thanks again for being an expert music nerd. We need them all to educate us less fortunate nerds. Cheers
