One of the many TAG Heuer problems is a lack of consistent design language. Outside of the Monaco, their watches are all over the place. They also seem a bit pricey for what you're getting. I hope they figure it out.
I consider myself a TH fan-boy owning a Calibre 11 Monaco and a Night Diver Aquaracer... but I got rid of every other TH I've owned because they've either been unwearable (Heuer 02 movement, like wearing a brick on your wrist) or the movement didn't make sense in the package like a Chrono on a dive watch, or a Carerra with just a date complication. The only thing they are REALLY doing right at the moment is their vintage nods in the Carerra model.
That first Carrera chronograph with the pebble crystal is super nice looking! I'll be keeping an eye on the secondary market to see what it ends up going for!
The new Carrera Chronograph looks nice, but for a little more, I prefer a Speedmaster or for the same price, a Tudor Chronograph. Thanks for another great video.
Nice very nice , I like the curved glass crystal wrapping downward with the face and lines showing , very cool and nice., the diamond one’s just WOW! Different.
I have Five Tag Heuer watches a Carrera Cronograph, and 4 x Quartz i find Tag Heuer nice quality and robust, and my quartz are such accuirate time keepers, within 1 to 2 seconds per year, with around 4 years battery life, i like the nil winding each day 👍
Gents, you made my day. First it was Tom, with his referring to TH Plasma dial as "90s TV static", and then it was you, Andrew with your "buying Volvo, and checking all the boxes". Great Jeremy Clarkson-type stuff! Smashing. Cheers! Love TH, have a decent collection of TH watches, but, let me be a bit personal, after watching your two "Apollo program" videos, I have started buying Omegas too. Can't stop watching your videos, but please do not do anything good about A. Lange und Sonne.... my wife will not forgive you :)
I really like the 2 new glassbox Carreras. Not inexpensive. But, I did expect them to be a little more. As is, I think they are fair priced for what you get.
My first watch was a Tag Heuer Link. Still have it. Not sure about the diamonds in a Tag Heuer. Think the orange / red Carrera is more a nod to Max Verstappen and Red Bull
I was initially quite attracted to the black one but alas, a few details didn't quite do it for me. They should keep the Carrera line traditional with the Hueur sans Tag logo and delve deeper into their historical archives for inspiration. This has been proven to be very effective and they can ask for stupid money and we gladly pay for them. Starting with the Telemeter Cal.18 and then they swiftly upped the prices with the Fragment, the Skipperera, the 160th Silver and now the 60th Panda. All going above retail now on the secondary market.
I’d like to see Tag make a comeback in terms of their standing in the watch world. I own a Carrera that I absolutely adore and have no plans to part with. Maybe they’ll luck out on a new leadership the way Breitling did.
I saw the Carrera chrono in a shop window i had my sunglases on and the dial looked like an oily purple almost like a deep moser & cie kind of colour. It looked lovely in contrast with the red and the bezel. Then my mrs pointed out it was blue. I took my glasses off and it was the usual tag blue. I was disappointed.
Hmmm I am a TH fan and own a Monaco however these miss the mark by a LONG way. The gold Aquaracer geez. It looks unfinished, the black crow looks crap. The diamond contraption needs to be placed on the head of the CEO and people need to get a chance to knock it off with poison darts. You are correct with the Carrera. It’s a sports racing watch and has a price point. They should have put the tourbillon in a dress watch and shown us something new but it doesn’t work for me in a chrono. I do like the domed crystal however side by side against a Speedy and I’m going speedy every time.
Very nice looking and original bezel I agree but major mistake the date at 12 with a chrono as the second hand when chrono not in use is ALWAYS on the date and make it unreadable… and I speak from Tag experience
I like some of Tag Heuer's releases, in the Carrera line. Their Formula 1 Gulf was a missed chance--hate the new handset, plus still has the same old basic clasp. The Aquaracer 200 in green was interesting to me, very silently announced. Tag Heuer is trying out some top priced models, but they need to also strengthen entry level offerings. I think that Aquaracer 200 does a lot in that regard, although I wish it had the adjustable bracelet of the 300. Still, being sans cyclops means they seem to be listening to fans a bit more, which is a good sign.
If Tom is happy, then I'm happy. Heuer has some hits, misses, and sliders this yr. Mostly good. I enjoyed the Heuer of the 80's and had a few. I'm starting to look at them more and more instead if Tissot and Hailton. Pip of orange what what and all. Great vid, thank you both. Chris
That gold Aquaracer looks a bit like it’s trying to be an Aquanaut. I do like some of their designs, but Tag has always felt limited to “entry level” to me. Love the vintage stuff, and it looks like they’re going in the right direction with that new chronograph. Looking forward to seeing their continued evolution.
Nice - not 5k nice. Certainly not 20k I doubt you get that back in 10y. I really like the diamond watch considering that I don't like diamonds on watches.
The 39mm chronos are quite disappointing in the flesh. The colours are not nearly as bold, the date wheel doesn’t click into place so you need to position it carefully before pushing the crown down and the date is so thin it’s quite hard to read. Also the pushers on the chrono don’t feel solid. Such a pity as they look stunning in footage online.
When it comes to gold and diamonds execution the price is almost 1:1 with "venerable" Lange und Sohne, which did not make any serious wrist watch in their history up to "re-creation" of the brand by Swatch in post-communist DDR part of Germany in 1990s (except of short post-war Phorzheim unimportant period). Manufacture caliber production and precious metals cost either in Switzerland and in Glashutte, moreover it is factually the same Swiss industry.
I can't understand why the hands on the Carrera appear to have fauxtina lume! Everything else is bright white and then they put dingy brown crap on the hands! So close to perfect!
I'm a little disappointed with the current Aquaracer "Professional" series. I'm a big fan of the previous version. I liked them enough to buy 4 in 3 years and still own 2 of them. But this new "professional" series has bracelets that are much thinner and lightweight, the date moved to 6 o clock and the cyclops at the bottom makes it hard to read, the bezels are looser and the whole thing feels, well, cheap. Except they cost hundreds more across the range. I'm sorry, Tag, but I won't be buying new Aquaracers in the future.
My brother has one. He's s a teacher for race drivers for the last 30 years. I raced for a few years, half as long. I don't understand why tag has that appeal . They lie about the " in house movement ". I'd buy so many wonderful watches before that lump on my wrist. I don't get it. Tudor is my pick but I have 40 watches. I haven't bothered with a grail watch. Gosh what a waste of money for me. Watches are taste; flavors. That is not worth more than a Hamilton.
They were doing some interesting stuff in the days of Guy Sémon. Now they're packing diamonds in carbon fiber with the LVMH heir at the helm. Totally lost.
Tag Heuer is a brand I love being the age I am and owning a Monaco , but they need to dump the horrible quartz watches and concentrate on the wonderful mechanical historical watches they have and they could be great again and don’t start me on the smart watches they make in China
Just bought me a watch, an OOZOO, for 1,50€ at the recycle shop, got me a bettery for it and a NATO, now it;s worth €20,- mew it would be €50,- so I'm happy, it even tells the date, its steal with a white face and balck indicators, no bling what so ever.. It tells the time perfectly :)
Tag Heurer slide into tacky territory, which makes the price point of these watches off (I will not even comment the diamond incrusted one... yuk)... the diver? ditto...
That glassed Tag was totally Ugly, with a capitol "U". I don't see myself spending that much on the Tag-line of watches. They just don't hit the mark of being that remarkable. Perhaps I have missed something. It's like buying the racing version of a volkswagon beetle. It may well be 5 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile, but it still takes 25 seconds to get there. Oh and yes it has a $25 cupholder.
