My dad just got fitted for these. He was in a car crash and his ping g25 were to short and he couldn’t hit a steel shaft anymore. He went from hitting his driver from 180 to 230 meters and the three wood from 175 to 210. I was so happy that he found out about these clubs and now he can come out play golf again without the pain!

tbh the SIM2 for me was a massive gamechanger, personally. The complete redesign was something I never would've thought was the one thing my driver game needed. Super forgiving, feels incredible, low spin, looks amazing. I tried the Stealth and Stealth Plus, where the feel is astronomically on another level, but I'm still trying to find my way around the club to actually get accustomed to it.

Having just ordered a load of Taylor made irons and wedges I was hoping they'd bring out a great driver to top off the bag but having worked with carbon for years in the aerospace industry I can't say I'm filled with confidence with a carbon face! Knowing full well that most of the damage from impacts with carbon is sub surface, we call it barely visible impact damage! Be interesting to see if there is a performance drop off across multiple months!

Carbon composite softball bats have been around for probably 20 years. A characteristic that is different than an aluminum bat is that performance increases as the the bat is "broken in". The shell gains more flex and more trampoline effect. I wonder if it will be the same with these drivers?

@brianmaietta
@brianmaietta 2 года назад
true. But i believe according to Tour driver regulations, the driver would become illegal once it is "broken in" because the ball speed off a static face would exceed the regulation (the figure escapes me).
@jweatherf
@jweatherf 2 года назад
@@brianmaietta Yep, same issue with the bats. They would meet ASA regs, but once broken in they got hotter. So then they had to back off performance so that it wouldn't exceed limits after break-in. This meant lower performance until they were broken in. It will just be interesting to see how all this plays out.

When there are rules about how hot the face can be. Then there is never really going to be too much difference in how far they'll fly. It all comes down to how good your off center hits are.

Hi Rick, thanks for everything you do your videos have helped me a lot over the last couple of years. I have literally just come off the range having hit around 20 balls with the Stealth. It wasn't flying as well as my G425. The sound is a little dead compared to my Ping. Also didn't feel as forgiving but I think with a bit more range time and a few rounds under the belt it could grow on me. Looks great too.
@BuffaloNickel9
@BuffaloNickel9 2 года назад
I hit both my G410 and G425 a few yards further... TaylorMade fitter didn't love that, but admitted it like a Gentleman and was beyond a fair salesman.... The Stealth seemed to find the fairway *much* better though.. I'll give up 3-5 yards to hit more fairways everyday of the week.... I would have immediately played the stealth driver setup we had that day, but it's just so expensive, it's a great driver. There's no doubt the sound off the stealth face is *much* more muted/dampened than the Ping G410/425 especially. It really grew on me though. I will say the comparison tests may be void because I was using different shafts in the G425 vs Stealth. Stealth being the beneficiary that had my favorite hazardous blue smoke shaft vs the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange, a shaft definitely like, but don't love quite as much.. I will say, if you haven't hit the TaylorMade p770 irons I would run out and do so... Cheers

Most of the golf companies have reached the COR threshold. The head stability and accuracy have improved over the past 10 years. If you can keep the launch around 12 to 15 and the spin between 1800 and 2200 you will see some good results, especially if your swing speed is between 100 to 110 mph. If you can swing at 120 mph or more you may need a more specialized or modified driver

I would say the more weight in the “trunk” allows it to be more forgiving. I don’t think it will greatly increase ball speed. But I think it will increase forgiveness and we will see dispersion tighter. Distance might be maxed out. I do believe distance + forgiveness still has a way to go. Imagine some of the longest drivers we have hit but with the forgiveness of ping g400 max. That’s what we are getting too. Also distance improvement on mishits is another thing that they are continuing to work on

I mean, Rick has a tendency to just completely ignore data to fit his claims, in this case namely that golf companies aren't really making improvements. Just look at this video, the Stealth has around 20% lower spin than the SIM2, thus meaning that the total distance is going to be longer even if the carry is the same, but he doesn't mention that because he wants to be able to say that no improvements have been made just like his videos have for the past few years on drivers. So really, I would at least give the Stealth a few hits since it wouldn't be that expensive to trade up to it from a SIM2.

How the clubhead feels has to do with swing weight, which is affected by the head weight, shaft weight, shaft balance, and grip weight. Any While the actual swing weight rating (D-2, D-4, etc.) will vary from club to club any club you play that is too light from a swing weight perspective when give you issues if losing the feel of the club in your swing.

Thanks Rick . Love your channel.. If the Coefficient Of Restitution (COR) and trampoline effect are LIMITED and REGULATED.... then I think manufacturers ALL have the technology to push it right to the very edge of compliance. why not build the strongest, most Durable and reliable driver instead of all the gimmics... Oh yea...I forgot....MONEY..

think it’ll be interesting to see how carbon faces improve. usually the beginning of every era doesn’t always start the same, but does usually always end differently. if this is the first carbon face and it has about the same results as titanium, maybe further down the line carbon faces will see more improvement with new science and technology on it.

I think we reached peak performance for drivers years ago. Despite all the hype about new materials and new shapes that'll allow you to hit the ball further. There's one factor that is the 'buffer stop', and that is the R&A There are no legal clubs that can perform better than their performance parameters no matter what the marketing guys tell you.

Hey Rick! I played baseball my whole life and I remember when they came out with carbon baseball bats. I remember the ball speed off the bats increased as you “broke it in”. Maybe something to think about doing a follow up after the driver has had some use and see if the numbers have increased at all? Love the videos!

And actually as I think about it one of the first carbon baseball bats to come on the market was the Easton Stealth… coincidence?

@@houstonsamuel5845 I remember the stealth I feel like? but I graduated in 2006 and don't feel like I remember any carbon baseball bats? I do remember right before I graduated they switched to BESR certification, basically making the bats limited on how "hot" they could be... Which sucked because we all remember the first DeMarini red bat that's one of the last ones DeMarini made before besr certification started.... I've never seen a ball jump off a bat like that so quickly, I remember our coach made us which to wooden bats only for BP because we were hitting so many home runs with that one model DeMarini... Piiiiinnngggg

@@BuffaloNickel9 you are a little older than me but yes that’s pretty much exactly what I’m talking about. I guess the stealth wasn’t full carbon but do you remember the catalyst? I think that was the first one that was like fully composed of the carbon material

At this point in time, if they can consistently gain 4 yards a year with drivers this is actually really impressive. If you would buy their drivers every 2nd or 3rd year you would actually feel the difference. I do not buy new irons for the range gain anyway, we mainly buy it for feel and forgiveness/control, so I would assume this is how people buy their drivers as well.

Great vid! I went through a fitting for both drivers and they felt the same and dispersion similar. The plus was spinning much lower and was an average of 10 yards longer so I had to go with it

The carbon technology is interesting in a golf club! This tech has been used in Slowpitch Softball bats (Miken/Worth) for quite some time. It was a huge increase due to the flex and compression advantages. My curiosity, which you touched on, would be how it holds up over time. Slowpitch bats eventually start to lower in compression when the carbon starts to get microcracks after use. This actually makes the ball travel much further, but sooner or later it will crack or fail. I wonder if there is a way to check the compression on this driver since it is only part carbon unlike a softball bat. Seems like a great idea and I'm interested to see if their are problems later in the year for those that hit a lot of balls.

It almost sounds like Taylormade is trying to get the Carbon face ball rolling with something unknown to the average person on their mind.... makes you wonder if the titanium had to much endurance, keeping ball speeds the same too long, and they needed to change the market to make everyone be forced to buy a new driver every few years instead of every 10-12 to keep distances up!

While there might not be much difference for Rick's swing on the sim 2 vs stealth, there could be a big difference for more average swings out there. Found this out when he compared the F9 to the speedzone driver some years back when he was carrying a Cobra driver in the bag. Not much difference for Rick but for a mid capper, a world.

I have an F9 i ordered in custom specs direct from cobra as a left over, and i absolutely love the thing. I crush the ball with is compared to my old terrible white R15 driver. The Cobra was only 275 bucks new with free shipping and a free Puma blue tooth speaker too lmfao hit the ball well over 300 total distance with it too quite a few times per round..so happy with that thing

so what i’m gathering from the last 3/4 years of driver releases and rick reviews is that none of these ‘new’ drivers do anything better or different from the previous ones, rick isn’t hitting it any further or straighter than before and for £500 a driver you’re better off sticking with what you’ve already got

Exactly. I spent sub $200 on a new 2019 Cleveland driver. It won’t have all the features of a Ping/TM/etc, but the performance drop off is so small it is a killer value at like half the price.

Rick... Firstly... HAPPY NEW YEARS! Thank you for your recent review of the TaylorMade Stealth. After many years and based on your reviews, I've decided to make a change to my driver. I had narrowed it down to the TaylorMade Sim or the Callaway Epic. The arrival of the new TaylorMade Stealth threw a small wrench into the selection process. Economics are a consideration when investing into my game, so, your feedback was much appreciated. I will still focus my attention to the 2021 models. Thank you!
