I purchased these 3/8” sockets but with the rails and trays. Pretty impressed so far.
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 5 лет назад
Trucker88 I saw the sockets with rails, also saw they sell just a metric set in case, but figured I should bite the bullet and just get the full set and be done.
@truckerpeterose
@truckerpeterose 5 лет назад
ClientGraphics I ordered the metric and sae shorts together and then the metric and sae deeps together. It cost a little more than the set and of course I didn’t get the ratchet, breaker bar, ujoint and extensions but I needed the rails and trays more. I probably should have bought the kit like yours and then got the rails and trays later but I didn’t really need the extras as much as I needed the storage solution.

That 74 piece 3/8 drive set is a steal for $125. Order everything individually online and it's $200+

How is the box for the complete 3/8" drive set, if you jumble it around do the sockets stay in place? I am looking at buying this set. I currently have the $79, 173 pc DeWalt set from costco on order, but was considering returning it for this tekton set. What would you recommend as the best starter socket set for a DIYer?
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
Kowabunga Dude I reviewed the Dewalt set from Costco and I have the Tekton set. They both are nice if you need and want quick release then go Tekton. The Dewalt is cheapest short term. If you want to build larger later and still use cases go Tekton. The sockets have stayed in place for me👌

I liked the full set just for the fact it’s in the case. I probably need to see how robust it is and bang it around. I have a feeling the breaker bar will pop out but I think the sockets will stay in place, hopefully!

I'm just curious but how do you suppose they will honor a warranty on just say the snap ring pliers which they no longer sell, do you think they will offer you the credit of what they sell price walls when they had them?
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
They will replace it with old stock until it is gone. Then once gone it was my understanding they would swap for something comparable in price or give you credit towards a future purchase on Tekton.com That’s at least what I recall from a conversation I had with them specifically about the snap ring pliers.

Astral Auto Repairs Hey Timmy, yes they should! Tekton has an Aways Guaranteed warranty no matter where you got it or how long ago. The Guarantee has no time limits and no fine print that I am aware of. Shipment of replacement parts is always on them. They even sell ratchet rebuild kits and sockets individually if needed. They have a Tech student program discount so they should warranty on all levels.

@felixf5211
@felixf5211 5 лет назад
ATF/acetone is old recipe. Its big caviat is that it has to be shaken vigorously before use, as the two fluid separate. I have it along with Kroil, PBB, Liquid Wrench, and a bunch of other similar products. Personally, I've had the best luck with LW and the ATF mix. PBB isn't in the running, at least in my shop.
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 5 лет назад
ATF/Acetone wouldn’t be my first choice to mix and put in my ratchet at the same time. 😂. Maybe separately one to clean and one to lube. Machinists Workshop magazine did an article back in 2007 on it. Would have been nice to see just ATF and Acetone separately as a control to see if the acetone help thin the ATF or just evaporated. At least give a good control test.

I've never understood why people buy 1/4 or 3/8 in sockets. Why not buy a 1/2 socket set you have more metal to prevent breakage and add life to your tools Unless you need sockets smaller than say 5mm 1/2 drive sets do everything. Genuinely curious
@The1LoganT
@The1LoganT 4 года назад
In my line of work, having a smaller set allows for easier transportation, us to get into smaller places, and to carry tools in our pockets. We use only 1/2 and 1/4 in. Also, some of the bolts we turn are smaller than what the 1/2 in kit provides.

@ThadrinC
@ThadrinC 4 года назад
Patriot Sleeper Cell the bigger sizes help with different jobs. I can’t comment on a 24 but some rear brake calipers have a 22 for example. There is no room for 1/2 inch sockets and ratchet so your stuck with either a 22mm wrench or a 3/8 long ratchet and a 3/8 22mm socket. The socket combo is preferable because at least in the rust belt those bolts are in there and extremely tight.. I broke 2 different wrenches (not cheap ones) on this and found that 3/8 combo to be best. Haven’t struggled since. I guess my point is that those sizes have use.. and can really save your rear... or at the very least your knuckles lol

@@ClientGraphics A while back I bought a 4-pack of Tekton screwdrivers - 2 slotted and 2 Philips. Simply wanted to check them out, and I like screwdrivers. I'm very impressed with the fit of the Philips tips into a fastener. The handles are nice, too. Their shape allows for a good deal of torque. As I mostly work on vintage machinery torx doesn't come into play, but I'm seeing it more and more on modern fixtures. I've considered a set of sockets, but after thinking about it, the 'drivers may be a more versatile way to go. The fasteners that I see most often are slotted and square head screws/bolts, and square head nuts. Almost always SAE, but sometimes a metric bolt comes into play. On a solely personal note, the question as to how a metric fastener was designed into an American tool 100 years ago keeps me up at night. Gotta get a life. :)

This video puzzled me... Are you a tradesman; do you even use tools? It looks to me like you're building-up a dangerous addiction and you're on the verge of becoming (if you're not already) a fanboy. A few things I feel like sharing with you and your fine audience. The made in USA logo is a great thing, but only when it brings in mind jobs and taxes paid into the own pocket (not another country's pocket). As far as quality goes, please educate yourself on the matter; it does NOT depend on the location of the manufacturing site and will explain, as I did to others... The brand owners decide how much money they want to make on a tool and they set the requirements accordingly. Steel is no longer a secret, as it used to be in the old times and wars are no longer won by those holding the secret... The Vikings were very strong due to their formulation and on the other end of the world there was the Damascus steel; in Asia there has always been the war of the better steel between the Empire of the Sun (Japan) and the Chinese Empire. Today, you want a tool made of XYZ steel with whatever finish and you get exactly that, regardless of where it's manufactured. How much you pay for it, will give you the better or worse product. There are barriers not to be exceeded. You can get a US made crap tool, as well as a whatever country made exceptional tool and the other way around. So, being made in the US has value, not for quality, but for jobs and taxes to be collected. If you're asking the world, it will tell you that the world praises German tools on top of anything else. As a matter of the fact, go into ANY industry in America and you will find German tooling from hand tools to robots and automated lines - the kind of stuff users have no clue about... Now to my second issue with this video... Your designation of these tools as being for "entry level", DIY -er and such... In this regard, I have a question: What makes in your opinion a tool more or less professional, besides fitting perfectly on any bolt, screw or what it's meant to fit, without destroying it and lasting comparably long while in use? Don't tell me about the label, because that has nothing to do with the designation, nor does the manufacturing location do. Finally, how can you tell by simply opening-up a box, how long a tool will hold and whom it is designated to??? Remember the no-hustle warranty! Now, those US made screwdrivers are crap, in my eyes and you could buy HAZET for less on the German Amazon. If you don't know HAZET, you should restrain yourself from talking about tools... Have a good one and stay safe! TRUMP 2020! (LOL)
