Yes, i need my stalks for driving! I want a large instrument cluster with at least 42 instruments! I want a V16 that burns 69 Liters of Diesel every Minute! I want to stay in the past! Please!!!
I wish he would be a bit more scientific about doing the sound tests but this is at least a pretty good general idea of what to expect in terms of noise.
@@Hyrppa95Yes, they are indeed quieter but as already mentioned by someone else. This is often due to the fact that manufacturers learned how to use the noise from the transmission, as well as the engine, and tires to cancel out interior noise. Think if it like noise canceling earphones, where the noise coming in is reduced but often not gone entirely because it is canceled out with a similar but opposite sound wave. When you synchronize the cars harmonics you can basically accomplish the same thing with less sound deadening and other materials. In an EV you don’t have the luxury of having a traditional noise engine or transmission to cancel out other noises. This leads to people often noticing noises in EVs that they would have not noticed before in a gas car. My method for getting rid of this noise is to just turn up the radio!
I like the highland upgrade except for two things: stalks - they REALLY should've kept it and I would rather an additional screen by the steering wheel rather than in the back. Other than that the differences in the looks, the ventilated seats, additional range, better suspension and noise muffling is great
They designed the car to be optimized for self-driving. I almost never drive manually on highways anymore, and I’m waiting for the city streets subscription to be available in my country. Once that’s released, all driving aside from parking will be done by the car. If you still want to drive manually, I understand the concern.
@@willitbreak5825 sure. But fsd doesn't work in most of the countries yet and it's still on beta phase in USA. In Europe where highland is currently available fsd is not only not available but there's a question of whether a car without any control system other than cameras can be allowed to self drive as it's against current law. The reality is that city driving, which is where you need the stalks most, is going to be done manually for some years still.
@@willitbreak5825hahaha sure buddy. Glorified lane keep assist is sooo god. Not like other cars have that or anything… And with the hardware tesla has (barely any) they will not be able to offer self driving in most countries. Oh and the new Smart can park itself, meanwhile the model 3 doesn’t even have parking sensors
The fact that the only comparisons he can make are to the BMW (+ $20k) and the Mercedes-Benz (+ $30 - 40k) isn't lost on me whatsoever. The value proposition of the Model 3 hasn't changed at all. That's nice to see!
Non biased? Doubt it. They anounced 20-30% less noise and he gets similar numbers to old model but does not mention that. Definitely biased and most likely paid by tesla. The car is different and better but mostly because of horn, ventilated seats, design and back screen. Not due to comfort or noise lvls, as provenneven by this video
@@PoneyBirds With the buttons. Not a fan either but can get used to it - people said it gets natural after some time. My main concern is more that earlier there used to be a "feature" where you can switch your driving direction to back and forward quickly when parking, which now isn't possible anymore I'd guess.
@@Murv That has been removed in the "old" model 3 aswell with a new update. You have to come to a complete stop and hit the brake when you want to switch gears.

Awesome review. For me, the RWD Model 3 makes the most sense. A real-world range of close to 300 miles, a battery that likes to be charged to 100%, a 0-60mph time of around 6 seconds, improved safety and noise reduction. Perfect!... Now where to find 40k.
Honestly worth the subscribe, Matt Watson really is one of the best car reviewers I’ve ever watched and it’s always a pleasure watching any of his reviews! Superb review as always!
I find him incredibly annoying and the channel’s abundance of drag race comparisons to be lazy and useless. He does get good access to cars though. Nothing surprises me as to what is popular on the internet anymore though.
Love most of the changes, but the indicators could be a deal braker. In my area there are a lot of roundabouts, where you turn the steeringwheel 100°+, and I can't really imagine that its intuitive to press the indicator in that position
If you're using the onboard navigation system, won't the computer know that you're going to enter a roundabout, how far around you're going to go, and when you're going to exit? Even at a T-junction, if you're using navigation, it should know when to turn on the indicators (and which one to turn on)
Overall like the new update, but was hoping they would: 1. Not get rid of the stalks 2. Introduce head up display or smaller screen in the front for speed/essential info 3. Finally add partition to close the roof. In hot days it’s a microwave and a shame having to find after market accessories
Also the pitch of the noise is more important than the absolute volume. If they improved in that aspect, it might be quieter even though the decibels are almost the same.
Well upgrade & improvements looks great but as a new Tesla M3 RWD owner, dealbreaker for me would be no stalks lol particularly with extra 4-5k hike in price & extra front screen would’ve been better than the back one to look for basic thing’s where majority of them get them installed aftermarket! My take would be to wait until next year until this one gets on roads in Australia 🇦🇺😊
I love this video - not because of the new tesla (though It's very neat) but just from the amount of personality you were able to share WITHOUT ruining the video. props to you guys! Very fun :))
Just been to Holland and the difference in road quality from the UK is incredible. Not one pothole, either on roads or cycle lanes. Our roads are embarrassing.
Where I live this car wouldn't last 5 mins before the suspension and underbody were knackered from all the potholes, drain covers sticking up and generally crap road conditions.
As a retired police officer in Australia, with many years in the Hwy Patrol, I am concerned not having a blinker stalk, could be a problem here. When leaving a roundabout here, you must indicate. However, with the wheel being in an arc whilst turning, it will be almost impossible where to find the blinker button.
Yet surprisingly the ADRs have nothing to say about the indicator control switch despite pages on the indicator lampes themselves (placement , blink rate etc)
I agree. I have a button on my current car's steering wheel for down-shifting and it is a liability when driving. A turn signal event is so ubiquitous that for me, no turn stalk is a reason to not buy this car, even though I love everything else about it.
Maybe the thinking is that you keep your hands at 3:00 and 9:00 the entire time? That said, we don’t have a lot of roundabouts where I live, so I haven’t paid much attention to this use case. I did test drive a Model S yesterday to see if I could get used to the signal light buttons, and they weren’t awful. I think I’d get used to them. I didn’t love the mode selection being moved to the touchscreen, but I suspect I’d get used to that too. I do love my 2021 Model 3 LR AWD, but I also love the sound of many of the improvements announced, so I’m torn.
Great video and test/ comparison. As a sound guy used to looking at SPL numbers, I see (on average) more like 4 dbA difference on your noise measurements. It also looks like the Vibrometer readings are a full unit (whatever they are) lower on average! My 2 cents.
Its wrong measuring the combined noise that way. If the most disturbing frequency band only, is lowered, it won’t read on the measuring if, there still is major low frequency noise. You have to do a measuring of the whole 20hz-12khz frequency band to see in what band and how much the decline is, in the disturbing band.
THANK YOU for the comment on the HUD! I have a 2022 Model 3 Long Range and while I love it, the one thing I constantly complain about is the lack of a HUD.
The quoted range figure he gave initially is the WLTP range and not the EPA range. This means that it is grossly exaggerated. Likely he would get about 380 miles of total range if driven properly, which is still better than previously but no where near what he stated.
@proXCaliber I don't speak about that but about driving the car til it dies like here in carwow : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZH7V2tU3iFc.html

A couple of attentions from here in the back row. There seemed to be quite a large reflection on the windshield from the new RGB strip in the cabin. You did the noise measurement on the old Model 3 with the phone on the bench and with the new one in your hand. Although, I believe that the latest Model 3 is quieter, because so many people have raved about it now. The new Model 3 is indeed more stylish and its innovations are significant, e.g. perforated seats.
@@HoLiSchit it's not about that, getting new car every few years is catastrophic. If you care enough about the environment to shoot yourself in the foot with an EV (which does nothing to help it anyways) surely you'd care enough not to buy a new one every few years. Consumerism is the biggest threat to the environment. The only reason china is the biggest polluter in the world is because we buy all sorts of useless shit off them. You don't need a car every 3 years. It'll last 20 years if you look after that, or even longer
The decibel is sound energy/pressure or dBA and although 1 to 2 dB is okay, my guess is that the focussed is on a reduction of the Highest Frequencies leaking into the cabin, so they've used materials that would block/reduce certain frequencies.
Being logarithmic 3db is huge - and the frequencies reduced are mostly mids and lows as high frequencies are easy to cancel. Proof? Just block your ears and all you hear are lows. 👂🏻
You should have conpared it to the 2023 or 2022 old model. Tesla has made significant changes to the old model from 2019 to 2023. So We can’t really tell if it is an improvement or the same, since the comparison is with an old year model.
There is not that significant difference between the 2020 model and 2024 model. Performance is the same. Intiror is closely matched. The front of the exterior is the only significant change. On the back lights, only some bits were removed. Like Watson stated in the video, the ride quality is very similar.

I've had my Model-3 since mid 2019 and don't know what you mean by "screen freezing"? Is that something that happens in your car? It has never happened in mine.
@@brunosmith6925Sometimes the screen becomes black. There is a spécial procedure in the manual to follow in order to reset the screen when it happens. Replacing the gear stalk by a swipe on the screen is dumb.
No indicator stalk will be a deal breaker for some, me included. I never could get used to the indicator buttons in the new model S either. It's a stupid and dangerous design, forcing you to look down to figure out where the buttons are every time while in a roundabout and turning the wheel a few times (typical hand over hand movement). This only works well when going straight.
How tight are your roundabouts? I never had to turn the wheel more than 90 degrees. And I always have trouble with the stalks, because when I am in the roundabout the wheel is turned, so my hands are too far away from the stalks. I have to let go of the wheel and find the stalk, which is annoying and dangerous. Much better to have the buttons at the exact same place all the time.
@@andrasbiro3007 What kind of roundabouts do you have? In a small roundabout you will have to turn the wheel several turns. Especially if you come from a right turn and then go into a roundabout and then out on the last exit. I think you got it backwards. A stalk is ALWAYS at the same location. It never moves. I can find it with my eyes closed. The buttons on the other hand DO move. Depending on the angle of the wheel they will some times be on the left side, some times on top, other times they will be somewhere on the right side, or at the bottom, in which case they will also be inverted. I have been using the new S a lot and can never get used to this, and I can certainly not hit the correct button without looking down fist, because they keep moving around when the wheel is turned. If you're able to intuitively figure out where the buttons are without looking down then you must be some kind of savant or psychic perhaps. Good for you! That's not the case for most people. I'd love to test this by placing some cardboard over the wheel so you can't see it, and then have you turn it a couple of times using the hand over hand movement, and see if you can find the right button on the first attempt when you can't see it. I'm a bit skeptical.. In any case, it's a bad design when a lot of potential buyers find it to be a deal breaker. That's not good for sales. If you look at European comment sections then you'll see that a lot of people are totally turned off by this. It wouldn't surprise me if the EU eventually comes up with some regulation that makes this illegal when they see that it causes people to stop using their indicator lights in roundabouts.
@@FireWalkMusic 1. I don't think I ever had to. Maybe your country has tiny roundabouts. I know one really small in my area, but I can't remember how much I have to turn the wheel there, I'll pay attention next time. 2. Your hand moves as you turn the wheel. You can't operate the stalks without letting go of the wheel. And if you do that after you already turned the wheel, you have to blindly move your hand back where the stalk is. I don't know how you do it, it's always an issue for me. OK, I drive fast in roundabouts, because it's so much fun to do in a Tesla. 3. The location of the buttons is trivial. They are always at the same place relative to your hand. And you can feel their general position because at every other place there's a hole. And knowing which one is which is easy too. It's the direction you are turning the wheel. The upper one is right and the lower one is left. As for hand-over-hand turning, you do the signaling before you do that. Pretty much the only time you have to signal while turning is in a roundabout. 4. The Model S and X had this setup for a few years now, and I don't remember many complaints. Owners complained about they yoke, but even that wasn't all of them, many love it. The only criticism about the buttons was poor quality, and that was addressed in the new Model 3. And Tesla is not the only one doing this. As the commenter above said, Ferrari has a similar setup, they have big paddle shifters where the stalks would be, so they too have all the controls on the wheel itself.
Technically you are correct: 3 dB increase in SPL has twice the power in watts. But: Our ears doesn't adhere to any scientific scale... So psychoaccustic scientists has worked out that for any sound to APPEAR twice as loud to a human, it must be around 10 dB's higher.
“Experiments have shown that an increase of somewhere between 5 and 10 dB will sound twice as loud: most people heard 5 dB as less than twice as loud most people heard 10 dB as at least twice as loud”
I don't know about this no stalks business. Whats it like on the road, indicating in and out of roundabouts? Matt, what's your experience with your Plaid? Do all the new features make up for it? If the Model Y has the same soundproofing, looks like a better fit (with stalks) for me. Although, I've always preferred the driving dynamics of the 3. Curious to get feedback on this.
Just some nitpicking from a Norwegian: No, it's not a months salary, but it could be for some people if you earn very little and go very fast. But it's expensive. Doing 61 kph in a 50 zone is a 5400 NOK which is £402. Most speeding fines are between £200 and £1 000. Getting caught using your phone while driving is 9700 NOK or £723. Drunk driving will however be calculated by your salary. Also, at 6:49 the Audi that passed you were in the right because you're supposed to keep to the far right of the roundabout if you're going straight forward and there's no left exit ;-)
@@ProXcaliber Yes, there must be equal punishment for everyone, and that does not mean the same amount of money, but the same percentage (of the salary).

It’s great to learn about the level of refinement that’s gone into the new Model 3. I regularly get 315-320 miles out of my Long Range so I recon that with some mindful long distance journeys, the new 3 will easily achieve 360-370+ miles … the interior looks great, can’t wait to see what the dash customisation options are for the trim .. many have said they shouldn’t have taken away the indicator stalk; I don’t really get on with mine so looking forward to using those haptic ‘buttons’ (think I’ve got that right!). I wonder how autopilot will now be engaged vs the old ‘double click down’ method ..? Also let’s hope the wireless phone chargers under the screen work better. The ones in my 2021 LR are intermittent at best so I just use a charger cable plugged into the UBS-C port in the centre console now. Should really mention that next time I’m at Tesla service. Also I really like the new front end shape. Those headlights are a vast aesthetic improvement 🎉
love your comment about the HUD - would be perfect for this car! But why did you not mention the difficulty of having steering wheel indicators in a round about? I can become rly difficult to indicate when you want to get off the round about...
Maybe because it’s subjective? Some may be able to get used to it much easier than others. And likewise if you engage your indicator beforehand then it technically should not be an issue. He likely didn’t find the task very difficult to accomplish so it wasn’t worth mentioning. Edit: You guys don’t need to be offended because there aren’t stalks. All I said is that he probably didn’t find it worth mentioning it more than already saying that he prefers the stalks over the current design. No need for pitchforks.
@@Tanax13and he failed to do that..he signaled left when turning right..watch the video..the cameraman did not even bother to use the turning indicator...
I don't even understand why it is legal to sell a car without an instrument cluster in front of your eyes. It is a safety issue. If you want to control a basic information like the speed you are travelkling you have to look to the central console. It does not make any sense.
It’s part of Elons master plan to move to FSD - principle is that ultimately you won’t need controls or instruments, so they are gradually reducing and eliminating them. Personally think that’s nuts in a vehicle like the M3 performance - you get one of those to drive, not be driven. Love the HUD in my i4…
@@gothmog2441 totally agree. I think the HUD would be a great addition to the Model 3. The removal of the stalks is also just an insane choice which I can't see will work fine in roundabouts, unless you're actually holding your steering wheel at 10:00 / 14:00 which nobody really does all the time I assume.
I really don't understand teslas obsession with taking 2 steps forward and 2.5 steps backwards. No steering wheel stalks are a dealbreaker for me. I was really hoping Tesla would add in an electric sound on this model like Porsche has on the Taycan. Some people may love the simplicity of the Model 3, however for me.. I prefer actually having the feedback of clicking the stalk into position. I want to feel the satisfying click of the gear shifter when going into drive. If it were in my price range, id still choose the Porsche taycan over any model 3 or S. They are just.. better.
Oh dear, I so wanted a Tesla (MY) for my next car. Whilst I understand the benefit of change ultimately leading to progress, the loss of an indicator stalk does come with complications in certain circumstances. For example, trying to use buttons if the wheel is turned! The move to a drive selector on the screen also feels like a complication rather than a benefit. Finally failing to add a HUD is another issue. I feel all the above will prevent my purchase which is frustrating. IMO Tesla’s range, battery, charging infrastructure, efficiency etc have the edge on the competition, yet some design issues in a driver led situation (in the medium term) seem to be their (Tesla’s) stumbling block! So close yet so far 🙁

You do not get used to not having them you only wish there will be someone who comes out with a way to add them back. Massive mistake to get rid of the stalks. I’ve had it previously where my screen has crashed and gone black whilst driving. How are you supposed to change gears if that happens?
@@sanbetski It means the scale is not linear. An increase of 3 dB is a doubling of the sound wave pressure. So 73 dB is double 70 dB and 76 dB is double 73 dB. So the increase between 73 and 76 dB is bigger than the increase between 70 dB and 73 dB. Wikipedia is your friend.

In Germany, you have to blink outwards when you leave a roundabout. So with the blinker buttons it's just idiotic because you now have to search for the right button while driving because the steering wheel is at a random angle in the roundabout. With a leaver you just straighten your hand while turning left/right to knock it up/down, and it's done. Really don't like that decision xD
Don't know why you do that in Germany, here in the US you don't assume someone is going to make a turn when their blinker is on because you don't know if they actually intend to go through with it for any number of reasons including forgetting its on. No one signals out of a roundabout here, you just look at where the vehicle is definitely going.
Wish you’d have used a newer Model 3 for comparison since Tesla switched suspension last fall, and probably made a host of other small undocumented improvements since then.
The suspension has been changed multiple times. I had the original sports suspension that got discontinued at the start of 2018. Tesla decided not to use it on performance models when they came out. The suspension was so tight that I had Tesla rebuild it for me and put in the later one, which they did for free despite it not being a defect or a warranty issue. I wouldn't call the second version smooth, but it was a big improvement, with a theoretical difference in handling that I might not have felt with 19 inch wheels. Since I got it in 2017 I didn't have the option of seeing reviews comparing wheels. With the v2 suspension, which most people will think of as the original one, it rides better with slightly less tire pressure, at the expense of a lower maximum range. There were a number of undocumented improvements since mine came out (VIN 5xx) and Tesla upgraded a lot of things for me without telling me whether there was a problem, whether it was to prevent future problems, or whether it was simply an improvement. I don't think Tesla would be as likely to do things like that these days.
Why is the price never a bigger criteria in those kind of reviews? Love this channel, Mat‘s style and humor, no offense. But you compare materials and noise levels with a BMW i4 and Mercedes EQE. Those cars, at least here in Switzerland, cost (depending on options, as with all german cars) double, hell triple the price of a Tesla Model 3! The Tesla should be compared with VW ID4, Skoda Eniaq. Those still are 10-15k more expensive. Of course I would expect the mentioned BMW and Mercedes to be much quieter and have significant better materials. It’s literally like you would sit in a Volkswagen Golf and compare it with a Mercedes S Class, price wise. But maybe price differences in the UK are not that big? Would be interesting to know.
@@RandomShart Ok, thanks for that. So there’s in fact a difference in pricing. As a Swiss (and to be comparable of some sort), i just compare the AWD versions. Model 3 LR starts at 51k (Swiss Francs), tops out at 61k. BMW i4 starts at 87k, tops out somewhere at around 120k. And EQE? 85k to way above 140k… ant that’s not the SUV form, which goes up to 170k. 🤷🏻♂️
i4 starts here at £49995 for the 210kW (70kWh) and tops out at £71085 for the 400kW (83.9kWh) M50. The UK is a haggling market when it comes to cars, so probably reduce those by 5% for more realistic prices. Tesla doesn't follow the discounting / haggling routine, so prices are typically just RRP, with £42990 for RWD SR, £50990 for LR and £57990 for the performance (from Tesla UK website). I think the SR is only a 60kWh battery so, as you mentioned, the LR is the best one to compare and they are not too far apart in price. Leasing wise, on a 3 year / 10k miles per year, 6 months upfront, typical rental for both is about £600 per month, so again they are competitors It's surprising how expensive BMW is in Switzerland. While it's a national pastime in the UK to complain about being "ripped off", we do have it quite good when it comes to car (and food) prices, comparatively speaking.
Im tempted but still worry about some issues. The stalk removal is a classic example of over engineering. Why bother??? The total reliance on a screen is a worry. My iPhone 14 doesn’t always work and needs rebooting. The thought of the same thing happening in my car terrifies me and would drive me mad. Having some buttons to by pass the screen for things like A/C would be better. I separate speedo or HUD essential too
He’s so funny…it has to be a pleasure road tripping with this gang. I wish you could have shown the frunk and cargo area to see if anything was added/changed/ or improved. But overall the car looks so much better and finally Tesla added ambient lighting for this one model, may not be like Mercedes or Audi interior ambient lights, but better something than nothing I suppose. 🤗
I think it's even tastier to use ambient lighting just a bit without making the whole cockpit look like a candy. And even then during the night it will make a difference to have it on with the color you chose.
To each his own. As an architect, I absolutely love minimalistic modern design work, so this interior is awesome to me. It's an art to successfully accomplish public acceptance with it on a large production scale. It's not easy what they're doing.
Late last gen Model 3/Y were ~81 kWh. However there is a lot of conflicting information out there, it started with the Y Performance built in Berlin, then swooped across the range I think. I doubt they could cut it back down to 74 kWh, keep the motors, change the tires and hood/front fascia and get it up to 678 km, they must have kept (or even improved) the 81 kWh battery. But time will tell, plug in Scan My Tesla to see what the actual capacity is (apologize for shameful plug).
@@steeztheday Short history of Model 3 LR and P batteries in the EU: Release - 2020: 77 kWh Panasonic 2020-2021: 75 kWh Panasonic (software limited 77kWh version) or 74 kWh LG or 82 kWh Panasonic 2022: 82 kWh Panasonic or 79 kWh LG M3 Highland: Very likely 79 kWh LG The funny thing is that the 77 kWh Pana battery has the best charging speed and curve.
I'll be honest, I test drove one of these a couple weeks ago and didn't mind the lack of stalks. Doing a u-turn with the screen was a little weird but everything worked extremely well.
Burna boy🔥 @15:50 I love this new model 3 It’s got nice ambient interior light strip wrapping the whole dash from door to door like the Mercedes EQS. The tail and headlights look lovely.
I live in the US and purchased the M3 LR DUAL MOTOR last year. I do like most of the changes to the new Model 3, except for the steering wheel. I prefer the stalks over the buttons. I enjoyed your review, nice job.
Pls don't ignore Joey, if it's beyond your capability, just give me a response, I would appreciate it even more. Joey, I say this bearing in mind that it's totally unrelated with the topic of the video, nevertheless, I ask for your help🙏. For the purpose of what I want to tell you, I want to first say I'm in Africa, Nigeria. Today, I received a message that I got an admission into a college of Nursing sciences. I have always wanted to study nursing. It didn't work for me the university way hence I applied for it in two different colleges of Nursing. One is a federal college (means lower fees)... The other is a private college (expensive). I didn't make the cut for the federal college due to very high number of aspirants but I did make it for the Private college. I got their admission letter today as well as the prospectus. The total entrance fees amounted to around $850. Haven prioritized and budgeted for the college of Nursing initially and didn't make it, I'm now thinking of how to get money for the private school of nursing. Tell me, what do I do? The admission would be invalidated and may be deferred if I don't pay some important fees on time. 😓😪. I decided to start a sorta crowd funding thing since apps such as GoFundMe & Indiegogo doesn't work in my country. (Nigeria). I need your help financially, man. I created a us bank account since PayPal too don't allow us to receive money as Nigerians. We can only send. Account Holder: Paschal ifechukwu Bank Name: WELLS FARGO BANK, N.A. Little wins make up a bigger one. Yearning more in-depth explanation, you can text me on WhatsApp +2348075941387. Your little help could go a long way in me attaining this my goal I hv always dreamt of. I so beg of you🙏
