3 important things i have to consider when looking at a scan tool, 1, cost of updating, 2, bidirectional controls, 3, do i lose anything if i let the subscription end
I have this device and its the best for what I needed it for. Had a power train fault orange wrench light in my ford and couldn't find it with other scan tools. Dealer told me would have to leave it with them for 12 business days and I would have to get a rental for that time to get to work and back. So found this on amazon and got it. Scanned my car super fast and found the issue quick. Was just a bad gear shifter solenoid. Bought the part installed my self. Took 10-15 mins max and I was back on the road again.
This is a fantastic job, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. I absolutely love this kind of thing. Your intestinal fortitude and perseverance are finaminal!
I recently purchased the x431 EBT elite. The last time i had a scanner, it was a Modus from strap-on tools. In comparison the Modus is/was thee best. This tool is a lil slow in loading all the perimeters and the newer I've gone, the more the protocol, the longer it takes. Maybe the VW Jetta had many issues and were unchecked. I'll find out Monday the results as I'll change out an airbag sensor and do the reset as well as an abs wheel sensor. For $540, I'm surprised and impressed. Thank you for this video and doing other content Mr tooladdict
Good Evening All Toolhaulics: Thank you Mr. Chad for your review of this new scan tool. I mean no disrespect sir but I really would appreciate an on vehicle demonstration in real time as you had planned to do with that terrific smoke machine. Every time you look at any vehicle you must scan / communicate with the vehicles so you try and minmize any surprises 😮. What car models & makes does this tool work on. Just because it may work perfectly on US & ASIAN MAKES there may be a lot of holes regarding the German brands. The German brands are so deeply in depth that there are only several companies that makes these scan tools, ultra expensive updates that nay or not even work, incompatible software with the main computer, BCM, LCM, etc. I've personally witnessed a very expensive aftermarket - large screen scan tool with up to date software, fry all the drivers in the main computer & actually went up in smoke. There was so much current run through the scan tool that went up in smoke as well. The only thing that would communicate on that MB was the OEM MB TEST EQUIPMENT & NOTHING ELSE !!!!! DEALERS get all kinds of software updates many times a week where us Independent techs may only get them TWICE A YEAR OR NOT AT ALL. TRY PERFORMING A SCAN ON A TESLA == GOOD LUCK, YOU WILL BE UNDERGROUND BEFORE MUSK RELEASES ANY INFORMATION, TAKE CARE CHAD & MY BEST TO HENRY, TMP FROM N.J.
@@CPthetooladdict Yes sir Chad, & at times I replay them so I don't miss anything so I get my information correct. Since I've been a steady subscriber of yours I've spent tons of money on tools & equipment that I've never heard of if it wasn't for you, your indepth analysis, your opinion, + you don't mind calling out BS, & your honesty. Chad I've only been doing cars for 60 years & I don't have access to all of tool trucks only my Snap On Desler & they've been good to me for the most part but very expensive. As always my best to you ,& HENRY sir, TMP from the
I wonder if it’ll do “purge/seal” of both vent valve & the purge valve to smoke the evap system to find leaks but being cabled would be a dealbreaker for me
The thing about purge and seal is thats more to do with manufacturers coding for instance subaru doesn't even use this method they not even on a factory scan tool can you do this test.
What would be the least expensive scan tool that does all these functions where you can test solenoids test EVA test sensors turn off and on accessories I have a launch 123 I believe it’s a good scan to read data. I don’t think it can do anything this one can i’m working on a 2003 Duramax and would like to turn off and on transmission solenoids turn off and on heater and stuff like that thanks
Is this the same as matco max lite a As I was considering this over matco because the maxlitea is per manufacturer where this includes 2 years of updates And wanted something quick and easy over my Zeus and this is about the size of a dmm which I like
Thank you very much for the review. I am very interested in this model. My question, If I don't update after the 2 year free update ends, will the 31 reset service and all system diagnostics still work?
I've been looking for a rich hot wife all my life they call that a unicorn it doesn't exist lol seriously I'm not sure what you mean most scan tools are bidirectional different brands have different features and not a single one does everything you want.
Hey by chance have you ever did a video on how to use the max 4.0 scope sorry to ask I'm trying to relearning everything after being ran over by a truck and having a stroke lost a lot memory sorry making a sad story but I never going to give up if you get a chance let me know thanks keep up the good videos
Am trying to compare this tool to the OtoFix D1 Lite. What are your thoughts on those two choiices? Its for DIY work on 20 year old Mercedes and Porsche, plus a more recent Subaru and a new Chev. Brain is on overload with the multitude of.choices oit there.
I work in a dealership and we have 2 factory scan tools but they get tied up all the time I was considering going with the Autel mk808 cause it has bidirectional controls now but this one is cheaper
Not only is this one cheaper but it also has ecu coding it's android 10.0 the mx808 is archaic compared to this to be honest. Plus the 2yrs free updates and Canfd protocol and a bigger battery and twice the ram.
@@jonpye8655 just sold my D8 after a year of ownership. It's not what is advertised. Overrated imho, and it had the latest updates. I'm looking at this now or the BT version.
Hey cp !! I was going to ask about scan tools in general. I am a shade tree mechanic. I do have a blue driver scan tool just for basic code reading and things ya know. I need to definitely upgrade. What scan tool do you recommend that's the best bang for the buck ? I love each and every video man ! Keep up the good work !! Now I'm a tool addict !! Take it easy man !!
Like I said in the video my preference is subjective because a cordless scan tool is definitely king that being said you don't want to spend more money than your skill level so if your looking to upgrade the 300-400 dollar scanners like this are fantastic if you need to step up to the next level it's 450-1000 and that gives you a few more options but not a huge difference the next level is 1000-10000 and that's a tricky thing.
I sure appreciate it man. I really do need to purchase a good scan tool. I do alot with what I have and have done fairly well to, but I'm ready to take it to the next level. Also I am with you, I like the Bluetooth scan tools cause I like to be watching and doing other things while it's scanning an things. Thank ya cp !!
Actually yes. The battery adapter to enable the charging, starting and battery load requires the battery clamp adapter and is blue tooth. Something else they recently came out with
I am getting ready to buy either the Launch x431 pro 5 or the Thanktool pros. Is there really anything I would be missing with the CRP919e for someone who works on just a few different cars a year? Am I just wasting money on the other ones?
@@kingbolen_official Right now I use Forscan on our Fords, and I have the Thinkdiag bidirectional mobile app unit. Is there more bidirectional control or what other features are in the $2000.00 units over the $500.00 units? I understand the Thinktools uses Launch software. SO I guess I should be ok with the Launch brand. I like the module tree breakout on the thinktools.
@@chuckmiller5763 I've had the Thinktool Pros for a little over a year and I love it. The cord would be a deal breaker for me as I prefer the bluetooth dongle. This scanner is a fraction of the price though and will probably do a lot of what the Thinktool does. I got mine on sale so it was reasonably priced.
Chuck I highly recommend not getting a thinktool the customer service is terrible the people have no clue what's going on its very slow I'm not impressed at all I have one and gave it away because It wouldn't to a SAS on a Toyota that all my scan tools did its basically a rip off of a luanch and autel.
How does this work for us support support since this is a global model and launchtechusa does not have any information and amazon is good as looks to do more than launch turbo model but this seems to be the one in am interested in for the money
Hi CP, as the owner of two older vehicles, '03 Astro and '03 Civic I have so far not been able to determine what level of scan tool to purchase. As a card carrying tool addict I have no issue spending money on good tools, but at the same time see no point in paying for capabilities that will never be used. Is the 919e overkill for my needs and if so do you have any alternates? I have no plans to acquire newer vehicles at this point.
@@CPthetooladdict I read when AI first bought it on Amazon that it was an upgrade to the CRP909E and the CRP919E (which is why I got the CRP919X since it is the EXACT same price as the CRP919E). But now since you asked, I rechecked, and it looks like the CRP919E has slightly better hardwad, but otherwise identical to the CRP919X, so maybe they had the info backwards they they first released the 2022 models. Sorry for the confusion.
Yeah I actually contacted the manufacturer about that so what I actually came up with was the CRPE and X are mostly identical they X is lighter for mobile techs and the E has a HD display that's all I was told but I'm actually wondering since 3 different vendors sell it I have to wonder if it's just not a marketing because all the information I can find is not diffinitive. Never can trust these companies to tell the truth either way I think they both are extremely powerful tools for the money.
Thank you. I have one more question if you don't mind. I did watch your RU-vid review on it. But thus will also cut out one cylinder at a time to see which one is missing?? Thank you much. I'm new to these scanners. Always had jus an obd2 cheap reader.
@@CPthetooladdict Thanks for responding, I can't seem to find where to do it, what is the sequence in the menu selections ? Pretty sure the relay is bad but it would be nice to know how to do it, I haven't used the Launch much yet so still learning how to navigate around it.
@@CPthetooladdict Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the LAUNCH X431 V+ PRO 4.0 because it can program key fobs. It's a lot more expensive than this one though, so I see the trade off. Still a nice kit either way!
@CPthetooladdict i dont remember the channel i seen it on but the guy said none of the topdon stuff did but the launch 919 allowed gateway access. Im trying to figure out weather or not its worth me upgrading to it or saving up and getting a diffrent scan tool.
Yes, launch is the way to go 100%. I have complete confidence. I own all those tools, and I don't make a dime off any of them for saying one is better than the other. Just a blue-collar dude speaking facts.
@@CPthetooladdict you a savage thanks hoss. I almost spent 1200 on the Launch X431 elite pro v global edition which I may still buy, but if this does keys. I’m gonna get this one for sure.
This tool is more affordable so it may not cover all models i have not been able to find them all just a heads up. If you are looking for key programming specific this is also something I would be checking out amzn.to/3HrXn4U
@@CPthetooladdict thanks for the heads up man I’m just a loan mobile mechanic so I been pretty nervous about buy a scan tool since mine got stolen. I do a lot of diesel and gas cars and trucks and latley been having to contact lock smiths and they are all rude and horrible about appointments so that’s why I been trying to get a scan tool that does all those functions. Tired of loosing out on extra cash and it going to people who are not polite. Thanks again CP your a gem 💎
I have not played with one I'm sure it has it's draw backs people claim it has more capabilities than the launch but I've seen no definitive evidence especially since they just released this one so I'm leary until I use it and see some reason to believe it's a viable option I'm skeptical alot of people like to jump on new things but with new tools and companies always has draw backs.
@@CPthetooladdict My draw back with a xtool D7 was being that it was only used on the family cars which was not that many times, it started to shut down within a couple of minutes when connected to a car, "I have a video of it doing that which I've sent to xtool" luckily it was within the amazon guarantee period of a year so had a refund rather than a replacment having lost confidence in the tool, now I'm looking for another make of tool which hopefuly will last a lot longer ?.
Yea man my d7 will shut down straight in middle of a test it’s very annoying tech support is nil I was gonna get the d8 been watching cp’s scan tool videos I’m gonna go with this launch 1 question cp is this or the top don faster ?
