My wife and I have been to 58 out of 63 national parks, missing out 4 of more difficult ones in Alaska and one in Samoa. Here is our list of favorites (IN OUR HUMBLE OPINION, please don't throw eggs...): Most scenic/photogenic : Yosemite, Bryce, Arches, Gracier Bay, Grand Teton, Glacier, Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Denali, White Sand Best hikes: Zion, Yosemite, Bryce, Arches, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Great Sand Dunes, Canyonland, Glacier, Olympic Best for young family: Great Sand Dunes, Mammoth Caves, Carlsbad, Mesa Verde, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Congaree, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Sequoia Best wild animal encounter: Yellowstone, Denali, Glacier Bay, Kenai Fjord, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Carlsbad Best sunrise/sunset: Haleakala, Bryce Canyon, Acadia, Crater Lake, Arches, Canyonland, Death Valley, Great Sand Dunes, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain Most serene/remote (Other than the 4 Alaskan parks we haven't been to -Gate of Arctic, Kobuk Valley, Lake Clark and Katmai): Royale Isle, Glacier, Glacier Bay, Wrangell-St. Elias, North Cascades, Lassen, Dry Tortugas, Voyageurs, Denali, Channel Islands NP that makes you wonder why it is a NP: Gateway Arch, Cuyahoga, Guadalupe Mountains, Indiana Dunes, Hot Springs.

@@excla We have been to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons 4 times, Yosemite dozens of times (we live in California), Redwood, Sequoia and KIngs Canyon 4 times, Bryce Canyon at least 7 times, Arches 5 times, Grand Canyon 4 times, Denali twice, Zion 3 times, Crater Lake 4 times... But of all the national parks we want to spend more time at, it would be Glacier before all the Glaciers disappear. And we love to visit Black Canyon again in three million years because the geologist told us that the whole mountain/canyon may flip another 90 degree in 3 million years.

@@Meandaddy In your final category of NPs that aren't very good, I'd add Joshua Tree and Biscayne. I've been to both, and while Joshua Tree would be fine as a National Monument, Biscayne just sucks, unless you like seeing bleached, dead coral reefs.

Channel Islands NP is an NP because it's a very VERY unique and endangered area of the Pacific. Santa Cruz, Anacapa, Santa Barbara , Santa Rosa and San Miguel are all important native american sites, plus theres flora and fauna there that isn't found anywhere else in the world. So yes it's super small for a NP, but its extremely important. JTree is also extremely important, JTree's aren't found anywhere except the Mojave, and they're extremely protected which is probably why they made JTree a national park.

These ten are fabulous. But there are so many others that if you skipped these and saw ten different ones you would also think that you had gone to heaven and you would not be wrong. This country's National Parks are amazing.

Zion, Bryce and Arches are absolutely gorgeous, but in the summer months they are also absolutely gorged with people. Go at different times of the years, like fall or early spring. If you must go in the summer, there are so many other options in the four corners area that do not get crowded. Canyonlands and Capitol Reef are amazing and have far fewer people. Mesa Verde is a different type of park, being a park dedicated to Native American ruins and is a must see, but in the summer it is one of the most crowded parks so some good alternatives that are close by are Hovenweep NM, Chaco Canyon NHP and Canyon de Chelly and they are all close by. In fact, the Colorado Plateau has so many places to see that are amazing that you could skip the big National Parks and be blown away by all the other places to see. It is the best that this country has to offer all in an area that covers parts of four states.

Having seen both Mesa Verde and Aztec Ruins park in NM, I completely agree with your suggestion to skip Mesa Verde and visit some of the smaller parks in the area instead. The history lesson is great at all these parks, and if you avoid Mesa Verde, you'll feel like you've got the whole park to yourself.

Monument Valley is a great backdrop for pictures, but in my opinion it's not really worth a special trip unless you're going that way anyway.

Unfortunately our National Parks are being loved to death. Reservations needed to camp, and even for some popular overlooks. Bumper to bumper traffic. Trash. Frustration. So many beautiful places in this country that aren't crowded.

All these are great and i have been to most of them but you have missed the most visited park in the country......The Great Smoky Mountains! 14 million visitors last year. since it is not on your list maybe that means less will venture there this year....we can hope....LOL Sad truth is many of our parks are being loved to death.

Never been to the smokey mountains, but from what I've read, it seems like it's the most visited National Park mainly due to logistics. It's easily accessible from many heavily populated cities. I would love to visit during the Autumn season which is where the eastern national and state parks thrive with those gorgeous red maples.

As someone who always lived very close to redwood national park I have always been baffled about how people think redwood is very good it is a very mid tier park there is not much beauty and it’s a very simple park
@JustMe-vn5pq
@JustMe-vn5pq 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the non-recommendation. I had wanted to see Redwoods, but now I'll only make a point to see it if it's on the way to something else that I want to see anyway. I appreciate the truth, even when it's not pleasant.

@@JustMe-vn5pqI didn’t get all the way up to redwoods np, but I saw a redwoods state park near Santa Cruz. I think just getting out to see any of the redwoods is cool. They’re just such massive trees, it’s hard to really understand their scale unless you are there in person.
