I'm a new tractor owner and I thoroughly enjoy these videos. I'm sorry I don't remember this gentleman's name but he does a fantastic job. He catches every detail and the flow of his presentation is fantastic! Thank you very much for your effort and professionalism.
I like the demonstration of how the tractor works and I wish the sales personnel at the dealership where I got my tractor had explained everything the way you just did.
Great video for new owners. Looking back years ago when I purchased my first tractor I wish the dealer had showed me how to get three point implements on and off. I can do it like a nascar pit crew does tires now days, but I remember years ago my neighbors’ ears probably bled when I tried to change them.
I cannot thank you enough for your videos! I am new to your channel and have watched many of your uploads, some repeatedly, during the past two weeks. I took delivery of a new MX5400 today and this video is what got me up and running. Unfortunately, I received zero help from my dealer. They had some delivery driver just drop it off and leave. The education you provide is immense and much appreciated. If I lived close to you, I would be happy to purchase any of the products you all carry. Tonight ,I did order one of your brush guards for my new tractor. Please keep up the good work and know that we appreciate what you do. The guidance you provide is immeasurable. Thanks, again!
Hi Neil, Thank you for the new tractor owner orientation video. I just bought a small subcompact tractor and all the information was very relevant even though it is a much smaller tractor. This is a great video to watch if you just bought your first tractor no matter what size.
Nice walk through! And you're right- most manuf's units are going to be pretty close to this, save any options or unique features. Color coding makes sense- and some go the additional step of using different heights/shapes to help you find the right control by feel, too. An example would be Deere's PowerReverser tranny. Both range and shift levers are on your Right side, so the range shifter is shorter and the knob is a different shape- just to help make sure you grab the right one. Also never fails to amaze/amuse me how fearful some folks on youtube are of emissions systems. They really aren't that big a deal- esp now that we're several generations in, and much of the problems have been engineered out. I hated the concept of DEF- until I got a truck that had it. It's been FAR more reliable than the DPF only trucks I had before. Those worked great, when I first got them, but as it wore- I spent more time broken down than driving... I'm 330,000 miles in on this truck, and this is the first time I've had it worked on- and it was the result of a check engine light, NOT a breakdown, lol. I'll take the extra couple minutes to fill an extra tank every 2 or 3 fill ups over constant problems any day!
I honestly don't understand the hate a lot of modern diesels get. I'm more of a truck guy than a tractor guy, but there is so much fear and hatred for modern engines, it's ridiculous. Looking at power numbers, modern engines are making double the power and torque, with equal or better mileage, and drastically less emissions. I'm lucky that I grew up after and away from the crazy smog and pollution of years gone by, but who would want to return to that? It just doesn't make sense.
I think the fear and hatred is due to a lot of the forums online with all the nightmare horror stories of failures, damage, etc. I'm not a diesel/tractor guy, soon to be tractor owner though....but the little diesel experience I have is with old mechanical diesels. Yep I have heard the stories about the DPF/DEF system failures, huge expensive repairs, etc. But, I think a lot has to do with the way people treat their equipment, most just beat the crap out of it, then whine when it breaks down rather than taking care of stuff. I don't mind the diesel stuff, just haven't had the need for a diesel...well up until I purchase my first tractor that I should have had 30 years ago LOL.
Thank you Neil. Very informative. I'm a power shuttle type guy on the left side of the steering wheel. Forward and Reverse. Your walk through, Talk through is so interesting for me. I Learn something New about these great work horses every time I watch one of your videos, the one you did with Gentleman as a buyer, never ran a bigger Tractor was excellent. Did not know they had a speed dump for the front bucket.
Thanks so much for this and for your other videos. Salesmen must realize they are selling information as much as product. At least if they want to sell product. Information is the added value a salesman/dealer brings to the table, or doesn't. Two of my decisions between orange and green have been based on dealers. Such as those who even bother to communicate and those who don't bother. I have watched your videos a lot because I am getting my first hydro tractor, a B2601. I have had three previous gear tractors. My Dad gave me a short lesson on my first, his B6100, when he gave it to me. The rest I have learned on my own. But I have never had a loader! And today's tractors have so many more features beside that complex attachment.
Loved this video. Again, Thank you so much. I actually learned another function of my tractor from your video. Thank you a 100 times. Wish I'd known about you when I bought my KUBOTA. I would have made the trip from S.E. North Carolina. All Dealers should do what you do. God Bless you.
The dealer we purchased a tractor off spent an hour with us on delivery going through the tractor’s features and use. Heck the fellow delivering the tractor spend a bit of time showing us what is what with it.
One of the best videos I’ve watched. Own an L series and didn’t know many of these features. I’ve been stuck many times and never used the lever. Thanks
This is an excellent video of the operation of a Kubota tractor. This man presents the information in an easy to understand manner and is very complete with his explanations.
My opinion as a car guy that has been in the auto industry for 25+ years, you do a fantastic walk around and you are an asset to your company. Your videos were a contributing factor in my decision to buy a L3901. Nice Job!
Excellent information in this video, especially with the loader bucket dump controls. And burning the excess gas’s on the exhaust pipe side. Great information here. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge
Thank you Niel, a very useful video for the first time user like me. If you ever re-make this video, could I make one recommendation would be to mention that when adjusting the cutting height on a mid-deck Kubota tractor you need to have the deck fully raised before you can make any adjustments. Doesn't say this in the manual and took me a visit to a dealership to find out about having it raised. Might help a few other owners out there.
a glow plug is nothing like a choke . . . a choke restricts air intake and creates a richer fuel charge, a glow plug preheats the combustion chamber/prechamber
Great video Neil ! I was not aware of the floating function of the bucket, other than back dragging chat, what are some of the other possibilities using this function?
Picking up my first tractor next week...an L2501. Have small hobby farm but been watching (over and over...LOL) all of the helpful Messick's videos for months. Love 'em. Keep the videos coming Neil.
Woot! Getting my L2501 next Monday! Have a 31 acre property with a half mile road to maintain plus two pastures to Bush Hog. Starting a hobby farm as well. Good luck to ya!
Thanks for another great video, I've watched this one about a half dozen times and just bought an MX5800. Can't wait to try it out. Kubota is the way to go. Grasshopper and some Case tractors use Kubota engines and that should tell you something.
I am a new Kubota L3901 owner with a standard transmission. The dealer wanted to make sure I knew how to drive a stick which I assured him I had. Well come to find out this is not like driving any stick shift in a car! You have to stop before shifting? You can imagine my surprise shifting from first to second gear! So just how do you use these gears? You would not stop your car to shift from first to second. The point being that you graduate speed to get up to a desired running speed. If you want to drive the tractor to a location say down the road, would you start out in 3rd gear because that would be the “cruising” gear? I’m lost. So far I have only stayed in 1st gear. ( I got my tractor a few days ago) my only experience with tractors was my 210c JD years ago. Completely different beast. (Loved that tractor) Love your videos btw. I’m subscribed!
Your videos than I ever could have imagined possible. Wish you were closer so I could repay your efforts with a purchase. A sincere thank you for the time and work that goes into these quality videos!
ALWAYS put your key on the contact position first before starting the engine. This way, the fuel pump can build up pressure. Never rev the engine in the first 10 seconds, since the oil isn't at full pressure and the camshafts don't have oil yet.
Yeah, and also keep your seat belt on when in high speed. I was in rabbit mode one day with my BX-25 and wasn't wearing a seat belt. I hit a bump, while going down hill, and almost got knocked out of my seat.
Thanks for the info!! I always thought the float feature was for when you wanted to raise the front axle off the ground to like take the wheels off or something. Now I know!
I just wanna say thanks for these. I just got my new 2610 yesterday and the dealer i went through didnt do any of this w me or the wife. These little tutorials are a great way to get acquanted(? Spelling lol) with a new piece of equipment besides thumbing through the manual. On the 4 wheel which symbol is which? Solid square box is 4 wheel right?
What about when you have another valve on the front so you can operate snowblower of the implements is there something so that you’re not smashing down the implement like you would on the rear of the machine with a dial
For mowing or other long time at any constant speed, select the gear range that has the hydrostatic pedal near the floor. This is better for the tractor.
you give a nice presentation on most every video you do,one of the biggest reasons i didnt buy a kubota is the treadle peadle, cant do brake assist turns ,dont have two right feet.brake needs to be on other side of tractor and hydralics are not strong enough.
GREAT video, very good instructional review. i have the L3200 with the 524 loader. What I have never been able to ID its purpose and or use is the u shaped gate with the black knobed pin on the top of the bucket controls base just above the rubber boot. Can you tell me what this is, a free float, lockout? Haven't touched it due to lack of knowledge. Thank you.
Well, you showed the 2/4 wheel drive controller and discussed the break on the icon, but which one is for 4 wheel drive and which is 2 wheel drive? I want to keep my tractor on 4 wheel drive all the time and I can't figure out how. Thanks
I own a 2007 B7800. When I engage the PTO it kills the engine, if I quickly disengage the PTO then the engine regains idle and does not die. What am I doing wrong?
At 7:21 while describing the height adjustment of the three point hitch I notice a gray roundish knob. Is that something that you can use to lock in your three point hitch height, a margin so to speak? I watched another video on comparisons of the Kubota and those green tractors. The gentleman was showing how the green tractor had a way to reference where you want your three point hitch to rest when it is in the working mode. (The Kubota he demonstrated only had the quarter inching mechanism to show the difference.) For instance I'm mowing at height "3" but I see an obstacle that might ruin my mower so I raise my hitch then move it back to the level "3" which I have set as my margin. I digress but, I assume that is what the gray knob does?
Correct, DOC only is almost the same thing, but uses a lot of EGR rather than Regen. I have another DPF video that explains the difference in detail. Pros and cons to both.
Nice video Neil, very informative. But I kept finding my eyes drifting to the machines in the background, you know, the ones with canopies, and decals that read 10 or 14 feet. LOL. Sorry, I couldn't help it.
I just bought a L2501 3 months ago could never understand why they put the hydro pedal with the brake pedals on the same side now I see they wised up and switched them I wish I would have waited now
So I just bought a new BX23S and I told the dealer about these videos. Turns out he watches them as well to help him explain the different options on models he is not as familiar with.
I just got a L3302 and was going through my owners manual for the tractor and loader to figure out what to set my tire pressure to and the to manual state different psi setting for loader application. Which manual should I use for the psi spec? Loader manual says to do 23 in the front and 14 in the rear and the tractor manual for loader application says 32 in the front and 30 in the rear.
When explaining the L-M-H functinon you said you think of L as Loader, M as Mower and H as Highway. I always thought I should run my mower on L. Is this incorrect?
there is some gray area here depending on your conditions. If you have enough power, and your ground is smooth enough to run at a higher speed, there is no reason you can't use medium. I normally do.
Hardly anything was explained to me when I received my LX2610. In looking in the manual I can't find where it says anything about being stopped to engage the differential lock. Is it still true to stop to use the differential lock on the LX series?
I've got an M5-111 and I don't mind the emissions "stuff". However, is there a way to make the tractor regen manually. There have been several times that I'm at about 96% but I'm also nearly done with the task at hand. If there was a way to go ahead and do that regen when I am nearly done but also nearly needing a burn. Anyway JW I like the videos and are very informative.
Neil: some of our more advanced operators will use those brake pedals individually to make tighter turns Me: having driven two cylinder John Deeres since I was 10, but still don't really feel like an 'advanced' operator......lol
on a ground contact mmm like on the B2650...does the PTO lever control the height? Or do you have to get off tractor and manually adjust all 4 wheels everytime you want to change the mow height??
@@MessicksEquip ok, I want a belly mower but think it will be aggravating having to get off tractor every single time I want/need to change mow height!! Could you do a video about the mmm deck on the B2650 or B3350 so I could see how it works etc?? I am a visual learner and your videos always help me.
Hi Neal I have an l4701 as well as an mx5200 and an m7060 and the l4701 has run about 60 hours now without going through a regen, I haven’t stopped any regens from happening it just hasn’t gone through it. And I was just wondering if I should take it through a parked regen?
Messick Farm Equipment How to shift, a non HST tractor L series. What gears to use for loader work, brush hogging, and rear blade work. Why is there 2 throttles? What is the clutch needed for? Is PTO engaged different? I was looking for one, but it seems HST is all that is out there.
In the process of looking to buy a tractor and was wondering about what kind of diesel fuel I need to buy. Is it just the normal diesel that u can buy at the gas station or do I need a special ag fuel?
There's really only one type of diesel fuel (not to go into biodiesel or plant based products that have operate similarly to petroleum based diesel.) There is only one type of diesel you can buy at the gas station. The only difference is there is a diesel that has a red dye added to it. Dyed diesel isn't taxed the same as regular diesel and is suitable for use in off highway equipment (tractors, construction heavy equipment, etc.) but when dyed diesel isn't available, regular non-dyed diesel will work just fine. You'll just pay more for the tax on it. P.S. Don't get caught putting dyed diesel in your pickup truck. The government doesn't like to be cheated.
I have, for the last 8-10 months, contacted Multiple Kubota dealers to purchase a new Kubota. NOT MESSICKS. As a very capable operator and coowner of Kubotas for over 40 years I am beyond disappointed with these dealers because they seemingly don’t/ won’t cooperate with a woman who is a widow. A man/ person used to be as good as his word, but I have lost faith in that honest premise. My husband and I would pay off a 3 piece Kubota set and turn around and buy a new one. The promises these 3 men made me didn’t hold water. As usual the good ole boys don’t want my business. They are not upholding respectful business practices or helping the Kubota company/name. I accidentally found this venue to express my frustrations. Disgrundled old lady in SEMissouri
LOL. Sounds like equality. You’ll have to do your own research, learn fairly and negotiate your own deal. PS - not getting help from sales ppl isn’t new, men have been dealing with this for thousands of years. Welcome.
I have a question about the explanation of the hydrostatic pedal. I'm pretty familiar with automotive and aviation mechanics but new to tractors. This explanation suggests not depressing the whole way and this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IfxcZOoRz6g.html suggests pretty much the exact opposite. Clearly they can't both be correct
