Have you used the brand Black Girl Sunscreen? By the name you can kind of tell that it is a castless sunscreen made for Black people. I'm a lighter skin Latina but I swear by it. Dr Dray had a video on it in the past which is how I found it.
💜💜💜💜 Chocolate girl friendly !!! I bought one last week but just tried it out today, I love it no white cast at all and best of all it’s not greasy. Went to 2 locations today no luck. I will call my local store to see when they will be getting more.
I just bought this the other day because someone on reddit said it was a dupe for supergoop. It looked and felt identical when i put it on. Ive been loving it and no issues or acne has developed from it. I have ocular rosacea, rosacea and acne prone skin so i have to be very careful with sunscreens. this is a winner so far!
I'm a male with a decent amount of facial hair and the unseen sunscreen by Supergoop was literally a god send. I can't do mineral sunscreens at all. I used LRP Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid previously but the Supergoop Unseen is a lot more breathable on light on the skin imo.
My daughter works at TJs and she said the product info sheet doesn’t say limited or seasonal, so she thinks that it’s here to stay. It’s so nice to wear, and it was so easy to get it on my 6 yo grandson - it doesn’t sting or stink and it’s easy to spread.
I’m a UPS driver in Southern Louisiana and this sunscreen is awesome I also have facial hair doesn’t leave any white streaks on my face and in a place where it’s typically 90% humidity and the heat index of 109 working outside nine hours a day, a good reliable sunscreen is really appreciated
Products are filled and measured by weight, not the capacity of the packaging they’re in. So we aren’t getting shorted on product, it just visually appears that way when the packaging they chose has extra space. If the product says 1oz, then you’re getting 1oz by weight. Despite how big the bottle or jar might be. You’ll always get the weight of product stated in ounces. I see people always having this misunderstanding with skin, body, & hair products. Hope that helps clear it up for anyone else who has been thinking this as well.
I've seen that in my body lotion. It says "now new size," same size and when you put it on the light you can see is missing an entire 1/4 of lotion. However, the bottle has to have air space for the lotion to come out.
Plus there needs to be extra room in the bottle in order to squeeze easily, & depending on how hard the plastic is, there may need to be extra space. If the component is made with one of those environmentally friendly non-plastic pulp type products, then they’re usually firmer/stiffer so you’ll need more space in order to accumulate an appropriate/easy squeeze pressure. And from the looks of the bottle it appears to be a more substantial material like that (at least thicker compared to the supergoop plastic component).
So I agree but I just weighted my unopened one and it only came out as 1.8 oz without the cap so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a little short on product. I have a hard time believing the packaging is only .1oz
Now that both you and the Doctorly team have given huge 👍 to this TJ'S option, the only danger is it being sold out everywhere!😫🤣 on my to do list in Vegas today is hopefully finding a tube! Thanks so much for the review!🌺🙏
As a beard owner I have to say that this sunscreen does great at spreading evenly across the face. I haven’t noticed any sticking around or caking around stubble and it’s so refreshing to not have to sit there for an extra few minutes tugging at my facial hair areas to try and get my mineral sunscreen away from hair and spread evenly across my face.
I love Unseen Sunscreen, have tried this Trader Joe's dupe, and agree, it's almost identical. HEB has also come out with a dupe - it's in a pink tube and is called something like "Sunscreen Face Primer."
So happy you did this, I just got two tubes to try it out. I agree it feels empty from the get go, the entire top was empty so I opened it to check for the seal! Supergoop is too expensive and Black Girl sunscreen make it matte clear one is anything but matte. Hope this works well for me!
I actually like this so much more than the supergoop! The supergoop one almost feels gritty on my face and it’s irritating. The Trader Joe’s ones is so much more smooth and hasn’t broken me out so far compared to the supergoop which did break me out unfortunately. I definitely need to snag a few more bottles before they sell out!
As a tan woman of color, the SuperGoop was great for me for all the reasons you explained. Perfect under my makeup, and my hubby loves it, too. Can’t wait to get over to TJ’s to grab this for the price point, but seems it was just a summer special for now.
I am a beard owner, and while I haven’t tried these specific sunscreens out I did try the Kroger dupe. I found that formulation to go on clear, however the texture was rather gummy on reapplication
If you’re looking for this product at Trader Joe’s, look by the registers first before going to the skincare aisle. I went to the latter first and couldn’t find any, but they were displayed by every register in the store. Clearly they realize they’re getting good reviews. Plenty at my local TJ’s.

I have used both the Supergroop and the Trader Joe's sunscreen. I think it's a great dupe, and you can't beat the price! I'll admit, I have worn Supergroop under makeup, and I haven't tried the TJ's sunscreen with makeup yet, but so far - no breakouts, great protection, and texture is very similar. I wore it all weekend to the beach, pool, etc, under a hat, and no burn or additional color on my face.
I went to one of the 3 Trader Joe’s locations I have here in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday to get this sunscreen and they didn’t have it! So I ended up getting the one in the yellow bottle, the face & body sunscreen that’s SPF 30, it has the same four chemical filters as the other one and I actually really love it! And the one I ended up getting is 6 ounces for only 5.99! No sunscreen smell, obviously no cast, and spreads so easily leaving a luminous finish. But one of the employees told me they were getting more of the Daily Facial sunscreen in yesterday so I’m gonna still stop by there and pick that one up, I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it. Even on their website they acknowledge that it’s an even better dupe for the Unseen without calling it by name. Love that!
Thanks for the info, I’m SUPER interested bc the unseen sunscreen is MY HOLY GRAIL! I live in TX and have taken it on vacation and NEVER gotten a sunburn, a little goes a long way and it feels SO light and comfortable, never stings the eyes/skin, and I LOVE that I can wear it under makeup or on its own bc it has such a nice finish. Most primers are made of silicones so the fact that this sunscreen has that as a primary ingredient makes it perform FABULOUSLY under makeup- it WILL NEVER PILL and actually enhances makeup performance. I LOVE that there’s NO STINGING AT ALL and has such a great finish and staying power. I agree that until i tried the unseen sunscreen I hated to (re)apply sunscreen or wear stronger ones, but i found that I will ACTUALLY USE this one bc I like the elegance of the product and how nice it looks and how quick/easy it is to apply. Plus supergoop makes a nice touch up powder sunscreen for reapplying over makeup. I took one bottle on a two week trip to Greece last summer and I still had 1/3 of the bottle left when I returned and had NO sunburn on my face, neck/shoulders and décolletage bc it handles the heat and activity and water SO FRICKEN WELL!! I’m allll about a dupe tho bc I was abt to buy some more supergoop, but instead I’ll go buy the trader joe one and give it a try!
Thanks for the TJ review! I have to admit, I'm starting to feel cheated with several different brands of sunscreen. The tube is going too fast; it seems like there is less product. And, tubes are smaller, prices are higher. What the heck....!
The products are filled by weight though, so the ounces aren’t necessarily filled to the packaging’s full capacity. You’ll always get what the ounces state in weight. So they aren’t shorting us, it just appears that way.

Hope TJ keeps it around forever! If I had to give one minor critique: for me, the sunscreen doesn’t absorb incredibly quickly. It did seem to sit on my skin and keep a mild slippery feel longer than other cream chemical sunscreens I’ve tried. But overall, super happy to find this product and I will definitely keep buying.
I had picked some up Saturday on the advice of someone and I really like it. I had been switching back and forth between Kinship and Juice Beauty oil free sunscreen. Depending on which vitamin C I was using the pilling was awful. So far, no pilling with the Trader Joe's. I'm not a huge fan of the texture, but if it doesn't pill and protects my face, I can live with it.
Dr. Dray! Is that eye shadow I see? Looking good!! Costco does the same thing! You find something you love, and BAM! it's gone, never to be seen again! We just scheduled a trip to Costa Rica for December. This will definitely be going with us. One website we looked at said to NEVER go outside without sunscreen. I thought of you when I read that!
The first companies that I remember produced sunscreens before (but similar to) SuperGoop were Paula's Choice Skin Balancing SPF and Murad Invisiblur . They were the pioneer of clear gel primery textured lightweight sunscreens. Somehow Supergoop become so popular that most prople think it's the OG when it is also a dupe
Unfortunately this sunscreen is sold out at all Trader Joe’s (in all of Orange County, CA). They said they sold out last Friday within two hours. That’s the power of Dr. Dray 😅❤. I will have to wait til the hype dies down.

They’re both incredible. As an added bonus, the slight blurring makes my skin look really great. I was also worried it was going to be sold out at Trader Joe’s but mine had a bunch on the shelf. I hope it doesn’t go away. Also it’s a dream to reapply. I don’t mind at all, and you’re right, I think spread ability becomes a barrier to people either starting or continuing using SPF. I’m ashamed to say it took finding supergoops unseen sunscreen to start using sunscreen altogether, but now with both options I really love, and I can’t see myself stopping now. I was hoping you’d enjoy this as much as I do. I value the Dr Dray seal of approval lol

Totally agree-no one seems to ever mention the dilemma with sunscreens and facial hair and this and unseen are the first I’ve used that I don’t have to worry about cakey, white buildup. They should really market this more to men.
Dr. Dray, I also thought the volume of the trader joe's sunscreen was way less than 50 ml, so I actually measured the precise volume in the lab that I work at. It was almost 38 ml😑😑😑
@Ghazal Rastegar Could you inform Trader Joe's of your findings? Might have better luck coming from you who tested the sunscreen in a lab than from someone who just thinks the tube "feels" lighter than the stated weight/size.
I use the supergoop sunscreens, really like them a lot… I’ll have to check the trader’s joe one, I do shop there (I love their New Zealand water) but I haven’t checked this particular sunscreen… I tried the spray sunscreen last year and it was just alright. Thank you for this recommendation, I agree with you about inflation and sunscreens getting expensive, and if it’s not expensive you cannot just find the product…it’s just ridiculous. Got my hands on it a few days ago and I had a feeling I was gonna love it so I bought two! And I gotta say, I’m so glad I did! THIS. IS. AMAZING! I think it might actually be my new holy grail! The texture is THE weirdest thing I’ve ever felt, but for my super dry skin it works SO nicely. I mostly use Korean sunscreens which I love but I enjoy how the TJ’s one leaves me hydrated yet not shiny! The Korean ones are hydrating but are just way too shiny for my liking. I also love how it truly does seem sweat and water resistant. I need that for this Texas heat. Love, love, love!

I think this feels better and more elegant than the Unseen. I love it! My only concern is that should we be weary that it doesn’t have the PA plus system to ensure it’s adequately blocking UVA rays?
My daughter is biracial and it looked horrible on her. I keep seeing darker skin women say they love it. So wondering what im doing wrong or its one of those things that just doesn't work for her. When she starts sweating you see the white lines.

Yes, thet are expensive. I just purchased elta md and cotz tinted mineral sunscreen (trying to find one that can become my holy grail). Unfortunately, the eltamd left me looking orange (I'm very light) and the cotz is really greasy :(
I beginning to understand after hearing others say this that an item you use but don't like can be returned to the store for a refund.. That makes it less risky to try a new product. Of course we 'd all prefer to buy something new and fall in love.

I saw this on another youtube review and immediately bought one and I'm so happy it's getting good reviews all around lol. I would never pay $36 for spf so I would never know what supergoop would feel like on my skin, so I take this all day to satisfy my curiosity lol Also yeah it felt like they were skimpy in the product. Hopefully no controversy or out of stock situation with this one.

Trader Joe's regularly discontinues products - they say so they can introduce new products. The first time this happened I thought I 'd have a breakdown. But now I just know that any priduct I buy there is eventually disappear..
@@bethwasserman2882 Ugh, yes! Trader Joe’s had the most amazing cookies years ago: they were crispy and had coffee in them somehow and dark chocolate chips as well. Poof! Gone. I’ve been mourning them but am vegan now and they probably won’t work for me anymore. Another item they pulled a couple years ago were the little individual packets of broth concentrate. They pulled the veggie one, but kept the beef, chicken, and turkey. I asked about it and they said it was a “seasonal item.” When I asked what the season to be vegetarian was, they didn’t have an answer for me. I consider veggie a year ‘round variation on this but no, they seemed to think turkey was a better choice for year ‘round. I guess the point is moot as they haven’t stocked any of them in a long time. Just a long way of saying if you find something you like at Trader Joe’s, don’t get too attached!

Based on product development experience, manufacturers will go up to a larger size tube if ounce claim is not a basic tube size. My guess is TJs private label manufacturer used a standard 2 oz or larger tube so it feels like less product in a larger tube, but is the correct oz weight claim. I notice this with the new Vanicream daily SPF 30 moisturizer too. Effort to save cost and not have to manufacture customized/proprietary brand tubes. Let's companies focus more on the formula and what is inside, with universal packaging. Also packaging is often formula dependent. Never want a thick formula in a tight tube or it will break at the seam, or a thin formula in an extra large tube. And tube weights and types affect viscosity, i.e, LDPE, HDPE etc. Most likely, you are getting the ounce weight claim, just doesn't seem that way. This is how TJs can offer an $8.99 price point.
You could check her video on the kylie sunscreen review. She lists other options on that one. Also check out her video, best sunscreens under $10 where she talks about the kroger invisible gel sunscreen (has citrus oil). Dr. Daniel Sugai also did a video comparison between the kroger and supergoop one.

I watch your videos a bit more than theirs so I was and glad to see you were reviewing it and so far, I’m loving it! The price is great, there’s no cast and it literally glides over your skin (I love products that apply that way) 😍 I wear it under a mineral peptides type product and it wears well. Ooooo Looks like Trader Joe’s has pretty good sunscreen prices in general. I like to try new sunscreen products just to keep it interesting and motivating. Even if they have fragrance: you can’t reverse sun damage but you can reverse contact dermatitis
@@dreamdollsforever270 Dr. Dray actually did a video on this today. She said if you don’t have a problem you can go ahead and use fragrance in products. I opt for fragrance free in almost everything but for me anything that encourages me to use sunscreen is worth it. Also contact dermatitis and a fragrance allergy are two related but different phenomena. A fragrance allergy may last for life but contact dermatitis can be remedied by avoiding the product that causes the irritation.
So I didn’t even waste a minute I was watching yesterday, immediately stopped and went to TJ. Not only were the ALREADY sold out on top of that they had a purchase limit of 2! But my consolation prize was the Glow Recipe Watermelon dupe which was abundantly available!
+1 for supergoop not showing on my beard! I'd love to use mineral tinted sunscreens for better protection against hyperpigmentation, but the nasty looking residue left on my beard is an immediate no go.
Thank you so much for this review - I love the SG version but it is pricey. I have been mixing the sunscreen, a couple drops of the Ordinary's ferulic acid serum and 2-3 drops of tinted moisturizer and applying them all at once. It doesn't get cakey or break down and saves time waiting for your sunscreen to set before applying the rest of your base.

Will be picking it up! I’m a big Trader Joe’s fan for fresh veggies, Pasture raised chicken eggs and cheese. Try their teeny tiny packaged avocados, perfect size for a daily avocado.
I think you mentioned this in a later video that I watched. The Neutrogena sunscreen I used for years has been discontinued. I was trying another Neutrogena sunscreen and dislike it due to white cast and the way it makes my makeup look. I was a Trader Joe's yesterday and picked this up. Can't wait to use it!
Thanks for this review. I picked this one up last weekend and I feel like it is under filled too. I handle sunscreen and other products a lot and was immediately struck by that when I took it out of the box. As far as the product, I feel like it is slightly less drying than the supergoop version but very slippy and probably not quite as good under make-though I have not yet tried it under makeup.

For those of us who do not live near a Trader Joe's (and do not want to spend the money on Supergoop), can you recommend other isododecane containing sunscreens with this type of texture?
There are at least two other so-called dupes for supergoop, Kroger Sunscreen Invisible Gel (contains citrus oil) and Kylie skin SPF 40 face sunscreen. Some others she's recommended are Frezyderm velvet skin SPF50, Paula's choice smoothing primer serum, Murad Invisiblur SPF30.
I have tried the Kroger one and that doesn't bode well with my skin for some reason. I love the Kylie Skin but I live in the south and unfortunately, that one isn't water/sweat resistant. I will look into the Frezyderm and Murad. :)
So glad you went to TJ's! I love TJ"S, but have never bought any sunscreen there, but will check this out next trip, and hope they have some! They always keep everything well stocked, but I go when they first open at 8am! Thanks Dr Dray!

I haven't done alot of shopping at trader Joe's, but now that I have watched your video, and that my Fresh and Natural food store is closing its doors at the end of July, I will definately be going to Trader Joe's. I didn't know that sunscreen could cause blurry vision. I just started late last year wearing sunscreen on my face every day, and this year my vision was getting a little blurry. Now I know why. I just bought this yesterday; my store still had a lot of it. No stinging on my eyes throughout the day! It's so sheer and seems to go on so thin and slippery. SO easy to spread. It has an interesting feeling going on. I can't describe it, but it's a familiar feeling that rare products have. That strange feeling of this type of product that covers the fingers (it's like greasy but not??) makes it hard to tell how much is on and still spreading on the face versus just on the fingers. I will definitely have to measure it out to ensure I get enough on. It doesn't feel like a lotion or cream (or even gel I think?) going on.
After I saw your video, I went to Trader Joe’s the next day and they were sold out! Thank you for letting me know about this cheaper version of Supergoop

I wonder if the Trader Joe’s would do the same? I have very sensitive skin and I find that the mineral kind does better for me but I usually don’t rub it in enough and then I look ridiculous!
@@dawnwilliams8051 Same! I think my skin loves the zinc because I notice if I have a blemish, my sunscreen seems to work on it during the day (I only use my actives at night). I currently use Hero Force Shield which is perfection. That said, I'll prob try the TJ's one if I can find it and sacrifice one part of my face to patch test. I always wish I could find a chemical sunscreen that suits my skin to have a zero cast option available.
As retirement age comes closer and closer (and our 401Ks tank), we're are trying to find cheaper alternatives for our daily needs. We shop at TJ's about once a month, because they're 10 miles away! Trader Joe's products are usually on par with what the Kirkland brand at Costco used to be. I normally use mineral sunscreen on my face (& will continue around the eyes) because the chemical smell gives me migraines. Thanks very much for the review.
