Hey Matt, a belted tire will help performance considerably. That being said, be careful to properly warm up the stock tires so they're reaching optimal temps (use a temp gun to ensure they are somewhere in the range of 150-degrees). That's why that last pull was so much better - the tires were warm and had probably broken in - giving more traction 👍
Got the Team Associated DR10 have the losi cámaro on order and yes I'm definitely getting the Traxxas drag Slash as well...can't wait for good weather 👍
I went to watch some r/c drag racing in Barto PA. today. I was immediately hooked. A friend of mine suggested I get this car as a starting point. My local hobby shop dealer Enzo, told me he had some coming in. I jumped right on it! What a killer lookin’ ride!
Man.. I do want one of these. It is really cool. Iv loved drag racing forever really haha. It's a tuff call on what is gaining the hype. Drifting or drag racing. Awesome review man.
@@camaroant2700 where the heck do you drag race that they don't want threaded shocks? I can't think of a single fast racer not running threaded shocks.
@@RUSERIOUS76 I didn’t say every but some people prefer them because it quicker to make changes and say more consistent compared to threaded shocks and I’ve seen them run 2.7 all day
You are by far the best rc dude on RU-vid. I really mean it I check out all of the good ones and I think you are the best. Thanks for all the info you give us
Man I miss the days when the top of line decked out Platinum 4x4 with a front diff, 3 more shafts, and a couple hundred dollars of multiple high quality upgrades (including $90 aluminum shocks) was $100 less than this 2WD.
I think we're seeing an industry-wide uptick in pricing strategies to try and combat the increased expense of shipping and manufacturing. It's inevitable, and Harley expands on this a bit in his review.
@@scalebuildersguild That's unfortunate, but I'm having difficulty understanding why this is $100 more than the Losi with a light kit or why it's about the same price as an Ultimate 4x4 with Bluetooth and more.
@@truerc I don’t have any insider knowledge, but materials costs are going to effect all releases coming out from here going forward. Hope it doesn’t last!
If you are already a traxxas car or two deep, and you want to try drag racing for fun, this could be a great solution. It's not aimed at the hard-core 2s class.
I never honestly liked the drag slash, thought it wasn't a good idea, however if i ever got one for free I'm sure I would enjoy it, some people are comparing it to custom builds or other rc brands, but buying this you're buying a traxxas model, so you're getting good customer support, good parts and all of that. Like many people are saying, its for a beginner.
Since my level of experience is still pretty n00b when it comes to no prep, I can honestly say that there's a few features that beginners will absolutely love. It's a good training platform with excellent parts support that can be made to be even better than it is. When folks are ready for the next level, it'll be there for them!
@@PhiddyPford I don’t disagree Mike, but this isn’t geared towards people who have already done the conversion, or are heavy into no-prep. I honestly think it’s targeted to help people get started.
@@scalebuildersguild I would agree 100% if I hadn’t just picked up the Losi RTR..... fast and straight out of the box, Entry level for $100.00 less. Traxxas does make a nice system IF you don’t do groups. The TQI disqualifies you.
Well orchestrated video my friend.... so much better than a quote “un-boxing “ videos that are RU-vid standard.... your in-biased view is spot on .... thanx for you contribution to our hobby....☮️~~ I’m out 😎👍🏻
Great video 👍 and I know it’s probably a sign of the times, but damn $500 is a lot. To me I would have liked to see that light kit and at least tint windows for that price
No interest in no prep but that body interests me as the wheel base looks about the same size as the Rustler chassis and I am interested in a low rider build which that body would be perfect for when the clear body set is eventually released!
I don't get this mentality that the drag truck is nothing but a Slash conversion?! I mean, what did people expect? The formula has worked for years so, why would Traxxas mess with that? Remember, this is a company that is using parts that have been in their inventory for well over 20-25 years - they're not exactly innovators, lol! Still, great looking scale body and wheels, some neat electronic upgrades and a new sealed transmission (long overdue)! I'm curious to see what impact the price has on sales though - very aggressive (outrageous?) pricing strategy!
One huge problem with places allowing tsm on deceleration is I've seen guys in testing they haven't done it during races but in testing they have those $800.00 dollar controllers, they'll actually trick the traxxas esc into thinking its deceleration by 1 or 2% while full throttle going forward. So they're 100% on forward while having that 1 to 2% deceleration tricking the esc to activate tsm while going down the track. You won't catch it unless you question it and the tech checks it. But i think it all needs to be removed.
I read the comments and it spoiled for me, there should have been a spoiler alert! (like I’m surprised you crashed in the end haha) well played Matt, good vid.
Another great video-talkie Matt. This looks like it’s a great entry point for a noob. I’m really seriously eyeing the losi car for the electronics, alloy chassis and nicely detailed body. Although, I’ve been holding off, really hoping someone releases a solid-axle drag car. Is it me or does the 10th scale 1/4 mile look way too short for these big cars!?!
Great video. The TSM really helps. I use it on my touring cars. They are all over cause of the dust on the streets. I like the green alot then the blue.
I don't know if anything is gaining popularity in my area. I have not participated in any group activities since I moved to Eastern Ontario in the fall last year.
I'm so glad I didn't buy one untill NOW, they are an sale 2 for 499. Me and my buddy bought them so paid $267 each after tax....that's a deal....finally I feel like a made out....lol...
I like traxxas as much as the next guy. I own a few traxxas models and I like them! But truth needs to be spoken here. My DR10 with castle esc/motor was cheaper than this offering and will shit on it all day long. I was hoping traxxas would actually innovate something and bring us something new but all they did is regurgitate an existing build and slapped a huge price tag on it. Shame.
@@scalebuildersguild no special chassis, still running stock tub, no reason to upgrade yet. Servo isn’t critical in straight line. I’m running a CC SW4 esc and 5700kv motor. Still experimenting with optimal gearing, but have found a pinion/spur combination that has been giving the locals problems and handles the heat for a couple runs. 2S Gens Ace 100c batts. Traxxas is awesome. I absolutely love their part availability! But they really didn’t offer anything special for the cost. The trans break can easily be replicated and many have already. The “new” transmission isn’t anything special and the stability management isn’t allowed in no prep anyways.
@@scalebuildersguild I still have about a $100 budget to bring my DR10 up to the cost of the traxxas drag slash and already out perform it. BUT I do like that this model will get more people in to no prep racing and that’s what it’s all about! Having fun regardless of brand!
Being devil's advocate here you could actually use an interior to "cheat" the rules since it is weight based and you can use the added weight from the interior to strip weight from the chassis and better position it for weight transfer on launch
@@scalebuildersguild Exactly! I just thought it was funny and decided to poke the bear a little lol. Joking aside.. I might just get one of these! Love your videos brother!
Hey, nice video, do you know if the drag slash can drift using the trans brake? And can it drift with the drag slicks? And will it ruin the tires? I'm looking to get one, thanks.
Good video I plan on getting green myself and yes I am ember of 704 outlaws local group here in North Carolinian we have a page on Facebook check us out
