Earl, I was picking mine up today. All Traxxas tires come without enough glue! I’m glad you pointed that out. I apologize for missing some of your videos, insanely busy lately. You are The Godfather of rc and always appreciate your help. All my gen aces puff Quik, I don’t buy those anymore.
Man I want a sledge so bad.. but now since my grandfather died all my spare cash is goin to my grandmother to help her since she lost his monthly check.. sucks but gotta do what I gotta do right.. any ways can't wait to see what' ya to it Earl. I'm sure it will be a beast when ur done and done right..
Great ride. Speaking of Traxxas ESCs, I recently sent the one outta my V1 Maxx back to Traxxas for the 4th time. Red lights of ☠️ every time! Sledge looks awesome! Can’t wait til they hit the shelves!
Hey Earl. DO RC just posted a video about that battery situation. I guess you remove the latch from the battery tray and use straps. Then any battery will fit.👍
After watching what feels like every vid on RU-vid over the last few months I was stuck between the Kraton EXB,Kraton BLX & Sledge I eliminated the BLX and been rewatching all the vids on the other two for about a month now and keep going back and forth. Finally decided today after going to Amain website and put in everything I need to get started with both trucks. This is my first RC car ever so I was looking at everything. And after putting all the items I would need into the cart Kraton was only a little cheaper so I went with sledge. I like the body of the Kraton more but everything else about the sledge. Since I needed truck, charger, batteries and accessories it wasn’t cheap. But thank you for all your informative videos.
Sledge is awesome 😎 wish my first basher was this strong and fun stick to traxxas gearing if you need more speed & eventually a better steering servo if you want to race around cones with friends ✅
I have mistreated some lipos in the past and they puffed on me , no surprise lol but I have yet to have that brand fail on me yet, though I treat them better now I must say, even had a really nice chl brick puffed on me with care taken. I trust the pack u put in there today
Awesome Earl and I know the mesh is set with that set pin TRAXXAS like to use like on their x maxx ✅😎 so think the motor comes out and u place the pin in the correlating pinion hole 👊🏿
Thanks for showing this. So far I’m not impressed. But once you get it fixed up we can re evaluate. Your Awesome, thank you for showing us this car in detail. It really does help! 👍💯
If you pop those Jen's Ace packs with a pin you can let the air out then they'll fit. Just make sure you're filming it and you have a fire extinguisher with welding gloves 😂🤣
✌🏻😎🏴I haven’t watched much on this RC. Plenty of people talking about it though. I think you’re right. I was thinking the same. It does sound like it’s bound up & it isn’t freely rolling, kind of like it’s calibrated with a hill hold/break like in crawlers.
Theres a gear size selection under the motor like the maxx and xmaxx thats why you are struggling with the mesh you need to remove the motor and remove it...its that tiny hex by the motor screws
Sledge looks to be on par with the Kraton. I just wish it wasn’t $800. My $550 Exb (Black Friday $329) max6 combo and dumboRc and banggood servo is ever bit as good but faster and $250 cheaper. Traxxas poking eyes with this one. Diffs out bad bad
Way back when i was young the sledgehammer was the rc i wanted the most. Rc has come along way since then. Didn't get a sledgehammer, probably wont get a sledge either. If you spend 1000$ one should not have to upgrade\fix stuff right out the box imho.
Great video. I think I like the sledge and it's good to see some competition for the kraton. Your bit on tyres was brilliant. They are never right, even the Arrma ones are the same. 👍👍👍
Hey Earl I was looking to get one of these and I think I definitely still will after watching your video. But I didn’t put any money down on one just in case you had something to say about it. Lol funny now that you’re my go to guy for telling the truth and giving the inner mechanics and how are you think they will hold up or they do or don’t hold up. I’m gonna wait till a couple more of your videos on this particular car come out before I decide if I’m gonna buy it or not anymore. As far as the green color I agree I actually wanted a blue one but then I change my mind with the green because it looks so good in certain light conditions and I saw yours and you’re right it is a lot more black but I think that like it better with the green and black for me. Anyhow great video really appreciate it can’t wait to you do your teardown on it👍👍🤙
I was also going to say it does look like it has a drag break on, my rocket 4092 1650 KV has so much compression I thought it was on drag but it was not
@near sighted time traveler now my hobbystar 1480 KV 4092 is smooth as butter and they look exactly the same though but there is a difference I can tell
The mesh is fixed by pins like all other Traxxas, isn’t it? I think that’s the problem 🤔 what I don’t like is the fact you can not run a bigger motor! If it would be more flexible motorwise it could easy be the kraton killer 🥳
Hey earl, I’m about to start making RU-vid videos. Do you use a desktop or a lap top to make and edit ? Also what software do you use ? I have an Apple Mac book pro lap top but idk if it will be strong enough. Also do u shoot at 1080 p or higher ? Thank you for your time
Super spendy for so much plastic.... I'd rather have my built Revo 2.0. wow that mesh was crazy tight!!!! Earl what thread pitch is your nut tattoo on left arm btw??? Sick Earl!! Hell yea
@@earlmoorhead5555 hell yea!!! This is why your the best RU-vidr IMO!!! Second to GUY lol. Good times Earl!!! So no gearing up for the sludge huh?? Welp that is not my kind of RC lol I geared my 2.0 up to 43/22 the day I bought it and never changed it yet haha even put a xmaxx 8s ESC in it so it won't blow again haha!!! Going to pick up my sludge right now at hobby shop!!! 🤘👊🤘😎
@@never-stock-rc2968 honestly think this could be one of the least plastic RCs, I mean what else would you want metal…. Surely not A arms, wings/wing mounts, or links…in other words the only structural plastic it uses…. with the big center brace, motor cradle, and the oversized gears it probably has more metal weight than most (proportionally). Hopefully the motor mount doesn’t become a big issue though
have you ever had an issue with thermal mode after changing the connecters (mainly the wire length) i found if its to short i get problems aand vise versa.. please tell me that its not just me and all the traxxas recently have tight mesh.. id rather it tight then loose anyday lol ps. tired this at the shop not impressed i still like my MAXX way more ( as a matter a fact its my favorite rc i own by far right now) v1 and v2 but the OG is the king still 100% my kraton was more exciting and felt better too out off the box.. and it still chugging hard only had to replace the rear diff gear once and she has been mint.. for some reason i feel more comfortable in the wet weather with it too
I've only watched a few videos on the sledge so far. I think the clip less body removal is a really cool design, but time will tell if they start popping off during a crash. We'll just have to wait and see how they hold up to some bashing! It seems like they designed some good support into them. Not on my list right now, but maybe down the road.
what to say about this car.... hmmm... competition is good for the hobby. I like the body clip system. I don't like the price. don't like those wheel hex,s traxxas uses. I dint like how traxxas is sue happy. there suing HBO Cinemax over the maxx name. sickening. lol atleast arrma and corally have more competition. redcat aswell. great video as always. cheers bro
Ahh. Typical Traxxas product. High priced and overrated. Id rather buy Arrma or even my Team Corally seems to be better quality for the money. Fingers crossed that manufacturers of sledge hammers are not in court next month.
I am so glad you got the sledge!!!! I was waiting for your honest review 😁I think it looks great and is some good competition for some of arrmas trucks great video!!!!🤩🔥!!!!!
Great video! I'm new to the RC world. And actually don't even have one yet. But I thi k the sledge will be my first buy. Then work my way up to the big boys. XRT, XMAXX, KRATON.
It’s been a minefield avoiding all the Sledge videos 😂 This should be fun. Just seems like everything coming out is so high-priced these days. Thanks for your insight!
Haha mine field no doubt!! But earls channel is the mine I'd rather step on than anyone else's that lie about the RC's when Earl does not candy coat anything!!!
Back in the day an ‘84 rc10 cost $300… equates to about $820 today… so proportionally you’re getting more bang for your buck than ever before even with these expensive fireteams and sledges, but yea hard pill to swallow when you just look at the price tag 😭😅
@@V8chump it depends. At that time everything was new and were high quality at the time. Tekno for example is extremly expensive because the quality control and quality of the parts are higher than the normal RTR’s. The fireteam should have been around 650$ similar to the mojave. The sledge its traxxas pricing like ussual.
Im honestly not impressed for 800$ So far with the videos i have seen. But its going to sell like hot cake because of the brand. Spike is almost in every traxxas video mocking everyone who dont say good things about traxxas products. He has been acting that way for years. He is the guy who won ur Red limitless. I hope someone who supports your channel, your work and what you have to say about rc wins the green limitless giveaway. Idk why people have to hate each other or be a toxic towards the RC community. Im not here because of the brands of cars you have. Im here because i appreciate what you do for the community and the interesting things you have to say about rc’s.
😭taste that salt. You done. 3 years ago this clown got into it with my 11year old nephew over the e-revo2.0. Him, Kevin Talbot and Joe dirt talked my nephew out of getting into rc'ing.
@@spike-- what kind of lie is this i dont even know you irl and i never told anyone to not get into rc. If your nephew somehow felt offended over a youtube comment. Idk what to tell you. You can claim whatever you want but i cannot hold hatred towards anyone. Im not going to start to hate someone because of the RC the person owns or wants to own.
@@spike-- never met kevin talbot or that “joe dirt”. He lives in the UK. I live in America. I just comment on youtube videos. This is pretty pathetic. How low can you go?
I watch almost every single kevin talbot video. He likes the e revo and recommended it plenty of times. I never met kev irl and neither that joe. Im not even youtube relevant to begin with im just a normal guy watching videos and leaving comments here and there.
I believe you made up that accusation. The notification email i received said “taste that salt you done” then you modified it to justifie why you are being toxic towards me and people who do not like traxxas trucks. I have seen you do it to other people.
Any chance of a chart, bashing and or speed run comparison of the latest 1/8 Truggies between Kaiju EXT, Arrma Kraton, Team Corally Punisher XTR and Traxxas Sledge.
I'm leaning toward the Kaiju EXT cuz of the price over the other Truggies, Belted tires, the esc/motor combo , adjustable wheelie bar, and body design/colors Just not digging the T- Plug connector and the issuee with the rear turn knuckles, but both are a easy fix for $$. And I believe has solved the turn knuckle issue??? Also T-bone racing makes a black only front bumper that will fit the EXT.
Hey earl yours does sound different and yeah it was that gears mesh I like the look of the rc but man that price is just a little to steep we will see how the market respond traxxxas is traxxas wonder if they will lower the price if the car doesn’t sell well🤷♂️
So, with that design, I guess you’re pretty much stuck with the gear ratio they send you? Not much room at all to adjust. The suspension does look really smooth! Looking forward to seeing if it’s gonna be a nose-diver, haha, was thinking the same after that jump, “fire team 2.0” 🙈
Hey Earl, not a 100% sure but I wonder if there is a pin that has setting on the bottom of the motor that you can place in different slots to accommodate different pinion sizes. Kind of like a preset for traxxas. If so I would remove it and adjust to your liking 👍. Can't wait to see how it turns out from an unbiased opinion. Great video!
Same price as a Fireteam. I'm impressed with the Traxxas innovation but I'm not sure they have nailed it. The Sledge was suppose to be the RC you didn't need to upgrade and required very little maintenance.. Seems more an RC you can't upgrade which could be an issue in the future, time will tell. I really like the clipless body and easy to open battery tray. Even the auto mesh system seemed like a good idea but if the motor mount moves so easily maybe it's a fail. For $800 t this stage I'd take the FT over the Sledge. Great review Earl.
Every rc needs modifyed. Nothing is perfect right out the box ever.. Some people arnt scared to mod there. Rcs. I understand why it annoys you that it needs further work, money, n time. But it is for sure the nature of the beast.. also for us freaks that just want to the most out of cars . you can't tell me a sledge with a 7075 cnc'ed motormount shining with castle 8s system isnt gonna be sick af. Is it ideal to speed more money no. But I do on virtually all my other rcs. Why wouldn't I do it on my sledge.
@@nick_stag I agree if you're that sort of person. Many just want to put a battery in, bash it, clean it (maybe) and leave it until the next bash. The Sledge was touted as that sort of RC, built tough so you can bash it and forget it. There doesn't look to be much room for aftermarket electronics, hence the original design intention behind the Sledge. I'm more than happy to hand over $800 because I want to add a Traxxas to my fleet and I was really hoping this would be worthy. I've yet to be convinced 😕
@@TheflyingkiwiRC what ever you talking about the sledge be touted as. doesn't exist in the real world unfortantly. all rcs require matinace. some more so than others. the sledge is no different. i feel like you are putting 100% unrealistic expecttions on traxxas cause either because you on have the 800. or dont want to spend it if you do. witch i cant blame you for.
Have one of these on order was already not keen on the servo speed but all this has me rethinking my purchase. A servo Taxes will have this at over $900 easy then of it has these issues and Amains id not be thrilled. May cancel and see if they make running changes. Also wondering how durable the bulk heads will be.
Great Vid, I am thinking of buying one, but I have not order the rc yet, I own 2 slashes Vxl and the ultimate. Should I wait on buying this rc ur opinion would be great…
