Never apologize for doing what you love, especially when you see the project through. A lot of people don't realize how much goes on behind the scenes or know how tedious the little things are that you don't show on video. Keep killin' it buddy!

I actually really like this build. I kinda rolled my eyes when Caleb first announced it but the craftsmanship, patience, and initiative that have gone into it, i get excited when he posts a new vid about it!! I cant wait to see it handed off to the winner, and i damn sure hope the guy takes care of it, and i hope we see it on the channel again someday

I definitely appreciate you seeing it through. I have seen other channels get something mostly done and then be sidetracked by the next shiny project. Also, I appreciate seeing the real process. These are the struggles people go through when making custom products. Being transparent with the experience is the best option. It also makes for the best content IMO. Unfortunately, being honest with what is happening exposes you to haters. Their words may be aggregating but the reality is they do not have the ability and drive to pull off this kind of project. Most of us probably would have done at least one thing different if it had been our build but it’s not our car so everyone should keep it to themselves. Haters can get wrecked. You doing you is going to produce the best results and the best content. Keep up the good work.

Keep doing what you are doing. I much prefer builds where you show all of the issues and the thought process for the solutions. These are videos where I learn something, too many videos with people bolting parts together with none of the problems shown.

As for external wastegate placement I think it would be better to put the hole towards the bend of the tube like at 10:10 since you might still have some boost creep since the exhaust air may want to go straight to the turbo instead of taking a hard 90 turn towards the wastegate, i think TheSkidFactory had a issue like this before.

yea, and not recirculating the wastegate back into the exhaust. Always room for improvement but I'm glad he's at least heightened the entry point for boost creep

It's sad that you have to make a disclaimer clip. I've watch a channel that was 3 months between videos and then 7 months until the next one.... You do what you do. I like this build. Hate that it is for a giveaway. Introduced extra stress into the timeline (which I think did lead to rushes and some of the extra problems) and I just don't think it's a good candidate for it, since there is so much out of the ordinary stuff to go wrong on it.

Others have opened up the wastegate hole to better match the flapper. Think there is a few examples of that over on the skid factory channel. Have read this is fairly common with internal gates and custom tunes in general though.

Stock style Evo/dsm turbos don't really like to make less then 20psi without a major restriction in the exhaust(the stock cat) . That's why they work fine in factory trim. the wastegate port is to small for less then 20psi or so with a good flowing exhaust.

Late to the party here but what I learned from Jafro is that you have to port the waste gate port on those turbos because it will boost creep. Had to do it to my ebay 20g turbo. Watching videos by Jafromobile help me a lot when I was building my 1g gsx. Best of luck!!

I don't get why people are giving him so much hate, it's a one off build and in the real world you have problems when you build a car. This build has been quite entertaining and feels realistic with all the issues. People are so spoiled to see these perfect RU-vid builds they forget it's not always sunshine and rainbows while wrenching on a car.

That turbo isn't a genuine MHI Turbo. The Chinese 16G knock off turbine housings use a very small opening for the internal gate. A common fix for boost creep with genuine MHI Turbine Housing s was to port the opening to match a 38mm flapper valve welded onto the original Wastegate Arm if keeping the internal gate setup. However upgrading to a large Tial External Gate works too, since you have the capability to fab up the O2 Housing and downpipe.

Hindsight is 20/20 but man that is a small wastegate port on there! Its pretty common to grind those out to match the actual flapper, quicker fix. But the open dump tube is way cooler 👍

A mid engine 1g DSM?! How have I not been suggested this sooner?? That's badass, dude. One of the builds I've thought about doing for years is a 4G63/FWD DSM trans into an MR2, this is awfully similar to that idea and I'm into it

I can't imagine anyone actually hating the Eclipse, because not only is it an awesome one-off build, but it also gives a realistic image of building a project car. I think it's much more educative to see even an experienced builder like you go through all the headaches that can possibly come with a build like that than to see a project go perfectly smoothly with all the troublesome bits left out. Thanks for sticking through all of it and giving us one of the most entertaining and interesting build series yet.

This is personally my favorite build because it’s ultra realistic to stuff not going perfect in every build I think it’s the kids that don’t understand that are the ones hating on the eclipse and this is a one of one eclipse in the world so trial and error is inevitable

I had a similar issue with an ebay turbo on my miata. All i did was port the turbo housing to prioritize the blow off valve and made the hole bigger it worked great after that!

you're probably over flowing the internal wg flapper. they make larger wg flappers so you can dump more exhaust.

Stud and nut probably would have worked for the downpipe. If you ever have to redo it, studs with copper nuts are a great combo that don’t back off.

The tiny wastegate hole on those knock off turbos with is a well known issue, all it takes is grinding it out to just under the flapper size and it's fixed, no need for an external gate. What you did works but it was a way overcomplicated fix for a simple problem.

The turbo needed to be ported. It boost creeps. It means you take away material near the wastegate to make the exhaust gases flow better to the wastegate. Google how to port a turbo. Anyway going for external wastegate also works. My turbo had the same and my tuner ported the turbo which was making the path from exhaust to wastegate less steep / flow better. Some people enlarge the hole of the wastegate.
