New Tygart Flyer Tourist Train from Elkins, West Virginia

This diesel-powered tourist train is shown at the Elkins, West Virginia depot (prior to its departure to the High Falls of the Cheat River on the Shavers Fork). The ruins of the old roundhouse, turntable, and shop buildings near the depot are also shown. The train is then shown crossing the bridge near the Elkins City dam over the Tygart Valley River, coming out of the Kelley Mountain (aka Cheat Mountain) railroad tunnel, and along the Shavers Fork, Cheat River near Bowden, West Virginia.

Former train shed and rip track. I am assuming it was former B&O property? Excellent video and thanks for your effort

Back in 2016 I parked my car at Cass and rode the steam train up to the Spruce connection, met and boarded this train and went down to Elkins. Spent the night, went to a show at the local theatre (pretty enjoyable) then reversed process the next day. Not sure they still do that, but it was a fun experience.

That experience is longer offered. That train you rode from Spruce to Elkins was the Cheat Mountain Salamander. The equipment for the train in this video cannot go past the curve at High Falls due to the curvature. All the passenger cars that were on the Salamander are now used on DGVR’s Greenbrier Express between Cass and Durbin, WV.
