They will mostly use for Kandy to Colombo trains and other important trains. But not for long distance journeys like Colombo Badulla.

It is very comfortable unlike previous class S12. Not shaking a lot when going fast. First class seats are amazing according to others. I am yet to travel on first class compartment.

Yes it's successful and at the moment many of them are operating. Except Siyane Kumari which is actually hauling by locomotives not a powerset. We still have few S14 trains sitting idle at the moment. Maybe they will added to newer services in the future.

@@banugopanthevarajah4314 yes. 5 of them are on daily services. 2 for Udarata Menike - up and down, 2 for Podi Menike - up and down and 1 for Kandy ICE. not sure about others.

Electrification costs an immense amount of money not only to build but to maintain. It also comes with a decade or more before being able to make a return the original investment. The current cost per 1 mile of electrified track is $4.8 million, compared to the less than $1 million per mile of normal track depending on steel quality. It’s hard for even a ‘1st world’ country to have electrification. Sri Lanka is no where near having the money- or need- to build one, and Sri Lankan’s don’t earn the high income that is required to pay for the expense via ticket cost which would be needed to fund the rail out of debt. Taiwan’s electrified HSR which was built in 2007 set them back $16 Billion and they nearly defaulted on its loan a decade later before being able to do a debt restructuring (bankruptcy) and pull out of the red. Only in recent years has Taiwan been able to make a profit off of it. With the SL Gov being notorious for getting seduced by economic hitmen and starting 1st world infrastructure projects that it as an emerging market country with a labor force of only 8 million people can’t sustain, electrified rail is just another Hambantota style debt trapping. SL Rails current move to rehab old rails and replace old engines/carriages obviously doesn’t have a wow-factor like a Shinkansen, but it is sound.

This is leaving at 8.30 am from Colombo. There is another one at 5.55 am and 1007 is available at 9.45 am.
