A word of advice from a fellow gardener, walking around a customers property like Tarzan ain't good business and not professional, regardless how hot the weather is
@tiffpickford9722
@tiffpickford9722 3 месяца назад
There seems to be a lot of good advice coming your way and you take it as criticism. You put yourself out there on this platform representing the gardening community and yes you are different with your approach and entertaining, but remember everything you say and do is documented for your customers to see and potential customers to view. Wandering around filming topless with workers with their tops off is just not a good look and not professional as a lot of people have told you. You are young and enthusiastic which is great and everyone wants you to succeed but take good advice from people that have been in the game a lot longer than you. Looking at this video I personally would not hire you to come and replace my fence. If you were all in t shirts with your company name on them and not topless with old jogging pants on then I would give you the chance to quote. If you want to push this business forward a more professional approach would be my advice. Sorry for the negatives but it’s ADVICE not CRITICISM 👍

@@tiffpickford9722totally agree with you…it gives off the wrong image completely and makes you look both unprofessional and a bit yobo like. As you say to drive the business forward and get people to take you seriously and be confident in you have some polo tops with your logo on…makes such a difference and cheap to do.

@@bartoni79 Personally I like plain black crew neck Nike dri fit vests for the summer , these are a performance brethable polyester and farr more comfortable than cotton t shirts etc. When it's cooler or when strimming I wear lightweight merino wool sleeved t shirts. I've always found the traditional fabrics options from embroidery firms to be farr too sweaty. Again for autumn and winter I wear merino wool zipped jumpers, naturally waterproof and really brethable, if you get wet or hot they dry rather than Coton hooded tops that stay wet and make you cold. I've never really bothered with a uniform as sutch just a plain dark coloured top and work trousers or shorts.

You as the contractor are 💯 at fault. They contracted with you, you subbed out waste removal. This job had setbacks after setbacks. I’m sure you told them two days with machinery. What was it a week by hand. A section of sod was installed after it started composting. If you can’t get the sod down within 2 days after harvest, throw it out and expensive lesson learned. Why would you not roll the soil to achieve proper compaction prior to install? You don’t roll after install for proper contact? The entire reason for sod is instantaneous lawn. Install on Wednesday, BBQ on Saturday. This is my 19th year in business, best advice my grandpa ever gave and taught me, if you’re going to be a business owner, you better grow some thick skin. I’ll also jump on the lack of professionalism with being shirtless. Why not just wear flip flops also? Spend a little, get some tank tops made. Shirtless on a job is no different than walking around with a cigarette or sucking on a puffer.

That is why I rarely answer the phone to customers out of the blue without a bit of context 😂 I’ll usually let it ring off and hope they leave a voicemail. If they don’t and they persist in ringing I’ll eventually message and say “Can’t talk at the moment, but am able to read and answer texts, everything ok? I saw a couple of missed calls from you” and then let the madness commence 😂 better by way of a text message when you can read and digest it and then answer once you’ve properly digested what they’ve said, and always keep it plain and simple business like avoid getting emotional. Even if they are.

There are nightmare customers around and identifying them early is key. I personally just dont work for those types 😂. I run a one strike and im gone policy.

Worked for a skip company for 10years and they should hire another skip truck to do their work. If you let you're regular customers down, they won't be with you for very long. Ive seen this before of trying to do maintenance and bigish Landscaping and it doesn't work out. I do 3 days a week mowing and save Monday and Fridays for one or two day jobs

@paulf2529
@paulf2529 3 месяца назад
@HDGardenCare if you buy one get a hydraulic breaker rather than an electric one. Jcb beaver or atlas copco lp9-20p. No extension leads or transformers and will shatter out posts. Jcb beaver breakers come up regularly on ebay so get a decent used one £800 - £1000 for a good working non stolen one. If you get posts set with proper concrete rather than postcrete the kango breakers really struggle and it can really slow the job. Hire on a hydralic breaker is £70 ish so try one on your next job and charge it in, easier than paying a labourer to break the concrete out manually.
@zzeezz100
@zzeezz100 3 месяца назад
Silver line electric break from screw fox aboutb£180 is brilliant, we bought one in 2012/13 still going strong today it’s done countless fence jobs and breaking up areas we were bldigging, I’d go that route rather than dropping 800-1000 as you may find you stick more on maintenance and fencing as and when vs out and out landscaping, as your relatively new, when we set up we were like you doing anything maintenance and landscaping but we moved away from it as heavy hard work and maintenance repeats itself and we still do fencing a few times each yr it’s a nice balance so I’d be tempted on the silver line, we d buy again , I’d say it’s done up 200 man hours in ten years give or take that’s a lot of work for £180

I assume the customer got a quote from you which included the skip therefore it’s you that needs to sort it and unfortunately you are responsible. I’d be pretty annoyed if I waited over a week for a skip to go irrespective of who’s fault it is. It seems like the job took longer than expected with the digger not working and Miles not turning up? So probably a culmination of frustrations. Chalk it up to experience and move on. I’m sure they appreciated you doing your best to sort it

For future jobs, a grab wagon is a easier and a faster option and you can just pile it on boards rather than having to load the skip (easier if you are using barrows) lots of choice with grabs so if one firm can't collect someone else can. Many grabs will also bring a backload of stone, so saving you transport. If you get awkward customers, my advice is always to back any phone conversations with a polite email outlineing what was agreed or not agreed over the phone . In this way, you have written proof and can save any hastle. Nothing wrong with telling a customer to wind their neck in. Personally, i expect to be treated professionally just as i treat any customer.
@HDGardenCare
@HDGardenCare 3 месяца назад
Yes, a grab may be the best move with future projects. However, I did ring around, and it worked out more expensive! Maybe I should try to ring another few firms as I only called 2 local grab companies. I always outline in text any phone calls or in person conversations. This cover price, etc, to protect myself against anything. That's all I was asking for was abit of respect. You completely right you treat people how you want to be treated.
@paulf2529
@paulf2529 3 месяца назад
@@HDGardenCare with grabs the price will vary depending on were they are based, also I have found just as with plant hire the more you use a firm the better pricing and service you get offered. Once you build up a bit of trust they are usually good.

Yeah you are right about the age and at 42 you should know better than encourage them,but experience says that customers shouldn’t have to put up with someone who is in their garden with their top off. I have spoken with quite few people manly women and they said they would rather they kept covered up. You don’t see postmen topless, delivery drivers or window cleaners. They may have youth on their side but a lot of growing up to do.

@tiffpickford9722 You're entitled to your opinion.
