I work on aircraft myself for about 12yrs now with private and commercial. Surprisingly its not at all difficult to basically go up to any aircraft grab it and take off, seriously there’s nothing/nobody’s gonna stop you. I guess just yourself at that moment. RIP RICH thx for not hurting anyone else.
@The only mucoysis he had no idea he could even take off but still ricked all those other pilots lives when he took off. He could of easily lost it and crashed into other planes on take off.
i guess local workers, pilots, etc just dont expect a random normal civilian would do your could know how to fly one of these birds. Rip to this legend, he went on his own terms and didnt hurt nobody, all of it is actually pretty impressive
I remember this they tried to talk him down He was very upset about disappointing his friends an family Said he was going to nose dive it in a safe place 😔😔
@@GrimReaperNegi valid point but his mind was made up about what he was going to do before he ever left the ground He was a good guy very depressed Not the kind of guy to put a gun to his head or hang himself But ending it with a bucket list of flying a plane
RIP SkyKing! I didn’t know him but a friend worked with him at SeaTac and said Richard was going through a lot at home. He was a good guy who had a bad couple of weeks - he wasn’t looking to hurt others which is pretty clear when you listen to the full radio communications from that day and his discussions with air traffic control. He just wanted to do something spectacular and even when in flight he said he didn’t think it would end well for him considering he didn’t know how to land it. I encourage anyone who thinks what he did was terrorism to listen to the full recordings from that day. He made a mistake but even in doing it was trying to protect the public from his decision. It’s why he crashed into an almost empty island.
It’s amazing how much that aircraft could take they were just not designed to do loops and rolls. He did everything and couldn’t care less and the plane did just fine until he decided to get a closer view of the earth.
Yeah the dive bomb at the end was pretty sad, he could have been a great aerobatic pilot. At least he chose to go out alone, for some reason I can’t help but feel respect for that.
Dude did a horrible thing, but aside from the loss of aircraft and setting fire to some trees, did make sure that as few people would be affected by his stunt as possible. He was in constant communication, telling ATC where he was going to keep people clear, flew over the water so he wasn’t a danger to people on the ground, and picked a remote area with no houses to end it all. What he did was awful and needs to be learned from, but relatively speaking it could have been much worse.
@@brianbeach3024 horrible thing what ever he stole a plane didn't hurt anyone 50 people shot in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend that's horrible stealing a plane is nothing but funny 😁
Poor guy? Don't feel any remorse for the moron who could've put many other innocent lives at risk. If you're gonna take your life, don't take others with you.
Guy steals plane. Takes said plane on joyride doing flips and loops in the air. (Take into account that there are THOUSANDS of planes flying carrying passengers at any given time). Guy then proceeds to crash said plane into an island which I’m sure he researched to make sure that he wasn’t crashing his stolen plane into anybody. And poor guy? Bc he obviously didn’t want anyone to get hurt 🥴
Crazy and Brave or the other way around. I think our world missed out on great potential from this guy if he only had a better options. Hope he is in better place.
Exactly, one of them is one of my closest friend who failed his pilot academy test here in Indonesia. And until right now he’s still traumatic and could not think rationally 😞
I was the Captain of Alaska flight 322 that told Tower that they needed to scramble the fighters to intercept the Q400 not knowing the intent of the use of the stolen aircraft.
Do you know if airports security was modified after that moment ? It feels like it's quite easy for people working on the ground to go on and steal a plane... (Easy to steal. Not to maneuver, don't get me wrong)
Can't screen for mental illness at the tsa but we can talk about it and raise awareness and demand funding from our states to support treatment and education training
!!!RIP Sky King!!!! & RIP Beebo! The dude legit looked like such a nice human being the more you look into it! Can never wrap my head around “the why” but can appreciate “the how” he did it.
As much as I feel sorry for his mental state and the tragic outcome, I cannot understand why people call him a hero or a legend. We all know the end of this story now but while he was in the air a lot of people were in extreme distress. There were many possible scenarios and of them them being him crashing at the airport. Let’s imagine just for a second how the pilots must have felt knowing that the high jacker is in possession of a plane that was parked in the airport they are currently at waiting for a take off. Imagine all the people who watched his flips from the ground. How must they all have felt? I will not even mention the fact that the plane was a stolen property.
@@tortoisetamer486as he said. We know that NOW. But in the instant, no-one, except him, knew that he wasn't going to be of any danger for anyone else. Chill out man .... I wouldn't call him a hero either. A legend, yeah, fits better, he left his trace in aviation history ... A hero is someone that acts for the better good of mankind / humans / humanity blabla.... Not really the case here But a legend, doing an incredibly stupid but awesome thing. Yeah. I agree plenty.
RIP in peace SkyKing. I celebrate the day you passed every year since. Each year it still brings a tear to my eye. Your words resonated with so many… you’re a modern legend, immortalized in meme. We care. Sincerely, “just a white guy”
@@donovanmarciano38 Actually he did put people in danger because the island he crashed into was lightly populated so I think it’s a miracle no bystanders were killed!
Release all of his communications so there's a better understanding of his intentions and why was able to take off, fly, but then landed as he did. If anyone has details on this story please link where to find it. Very interesting story
Ask any pilot: taking off is easy, landing is the part that actually requires skill. When this happened in 2018 it was revealed that he had spent a lot of time on commercially-available, high-end flight simulators which presumably is why he knew the startup and takeoff process.
The air traffic communications with him are on RU-vid. He really wasn’t looking to hurt others, he just wanted to see Mt Rainer and the Olympic Mountains before he took his own life. From the full radio transmissions you can tell that he was a sweet guy in the midst of a manic episode. No anger or aggression - just joy and a little bit of embarrassment for bothering other people’s day.
I'm so confused as to why people are calling him a legend. If he had killed others, whether he meant to or not, the reactions would be very different. This was stupid and it could've been tragic for more than one person.
I think some of these comments are very weird I guess I could say. You're pretty much applauding and calling him a legend because he hijacked a plane. He put hundreds in danger from his action. The REAL 'Sky Kings' are the REAL pilots and the pilots in military combat. Wish he got some help before he ended it hopefully he is in a better place.
Just one of the crazy things that day is he's already got the engines running as he pushes the plane out, it moving when he has to open the door and jump on, then he takes off with the brakes on, tires smoking, those propellers are so strong it takes off with the brakes locked
He clearly wasnt that mentally unstable. Heres why. He knew once he took the plane and took off he would probably be in prison for a long time and knew that his choice was made for him.
Someone who is done with life and just wanted to do something awesome once before he checked out permanently. The elites have stolen our futures and some people realize this and just decide they don't want to be a slave anymore.
Where was his Ranger Buddy? Check on your Brothers, many are hurting. I would rather you cry on my shoulder than get a call you checked out. “Life’s better with you here Brothers”.
That’s desperation in his voice. I have it once. You can’t really control it much if you’re not his closest. You mind kinda blurry to accept reality. I think now that most of it is defensive mechanism. Now that I’m sane I’m not going to justify this. I just think the problem is not about a crazy man and it’s that this is preventable, else you won’t see this comment as a bullet would already entered my own head years ago. My real problem is how this is preventable. Even when the line is crossed, you still have options left to convey. If you don’t care about it, least awareness, then surely you’ll have more insane situations. I think we all know it well by know how crazy our world become.
If you see what this guy did with this plane, you'll be flabbergasted by how effective the plane's autopilot is at correcting itself. I wonder if a jet is more or less effective at making such corrections. I'm guessing more effective.
Amen May Richard Rest In Peace And I Really Do Hoep That Anyone Who Is Also Going Through What Richard Was Going Through Can Get The Help That They Need Amen ✝️🙏💔🥺😢😭☹️🕊️
I mean he actually flew the plane with no problem, even though it was definitely illegal and could had turned into a nightmare, I wonder why he didn't ask for help landing that beast of a plane ....
