I gotta say, the pace of this review is very good. Going through the details of things as though it would be someone who's using the vehicle versus rushing through all the features. Really appreciate the timing of this one 🙌.
@@bianzidan I heard that it wasn't compatible with the Google os! Nonetheless was a brilliant shortcut that was safe to use whilst on the move. We use the individual mode to disable the start/stop system.
Nope, it's the Xpeng G9. Cheaper or equivalent in price. Filled to the brim with luxury. Can compete with top 100K+ BMW, Mercedes or Audi electric and non-electric SUVs. And you can get one in a few European countries now.
ex xc-60 owner here, also my dad owns 2023 xc-90 now . overall great car, but back seats are quite bad in both of them, they feel quite short and harsh, not comfortable for long trips at all. Feels like a bench in the local park. i own 2020 Touareg now, in terms of back seats its miles better, ride is softer and overall seats are larger and softer.
When my family went car shopping, I steered my mom into the volvo dealership after looking at a tesla model y and she instantly fell in love with the xc60 and forgot about the tesla. I think that was a good move on my part
EV’s are soulless , and not everyone would be able to own one the demand for charging would be impossible to cover and its time consuming. I don’t think ICE will be going just yet , not when someone releases Hydrogen cars.
We bought one last week! Very happy with it in general. The android infotainment system is great with Spotify and Google Maps but it occasionally has its issues lags/freezes etc. The air suspensions makes it the most comfortable Volvo I have ever driven but it kinda drives like a boat because of it. We found the GLC too expensive for its interior quality. The X3 was also great but 22/23 models lack crucial features because of chip shortage.
The Volvo's front drive or Haldex (as in the Passat) puts me off a bit. And the biggest disadvantage of the volvo is that there are no engines above 2.0. I don't know about this model, but in other Volvos the fit of the interior is at a nightmare level, everything creaks when you touch it. Since the Chinese bought them, the quality has dropped dramatically.
No, just no..! It’s effing ugly from behind! It was ugly when new, it is uglier now 7 years later, and will be even uglier in the future… The first gen xc60 is timeless in design if we are honest! Not this gen!
Last year I convinced my dad to buy the this car. I felt so proud and really love the car. I remember showing him your original vid of the 2017 model. He got the 2021 momentum model, it is really great. Thanks for the great content and humour!
My dad got a Volvo S60. Left us stranded after a month and had issue after issue. Turbo and electric issues. Hope yall have better luck. Never buying European again.
I tried to do the same with my friend. He almost bought it but totally changed his mind when we casually visited the cross street BMW dealership. He finally got the X3.
@Joshua Duarte Americam cars aren't really that good here in the US either lol. Only thing they got going for them is brand recognition and slightly cheaper.
20"tyres might look beter than 18" ones but the 18" ones are cheaper to buy and replace . Also I think that smaler wheels are more comfortable than the biger ones . Great rewiew though 😉
My wife's is on 18'' Michelin CrossClimate2's and is more comfortable as a result. Drove one with 20'' wheels (without air suspension) and just wasn't as composed.
@@steventhosebyyou can test what the difference would be like by adjusting the pressure in your tires and I was amazed what a difference squishier rubber makes so I think I would do the happy medium of 19”s you still have a chunky sidewall but the car doesn’t look like it’s on donor wheels
@@lbnewell23 the only reason in my personal opinion why would anyone put 20" and bigger than that wheels on any car is to look cool . Sacrificing ride comfort in the proces. But hey that is my opinion and I know for a fact that I would newer put 20 on mu car no mater how cooler they would look
Same !! I was rear ended while at a dead stop, minding my own business when all of a sudden a Toyota Tacoma coming at 45-50 mph rear ended me and I was scared needless to say but my Volvo kept me safe and the inside was completely un phased with the exception of the side airbags being deployed and as well as outside of the car was basically intact meanwhile the Tacoma that hit me was smashed ! I am so thankful to have been in my Volvo XC90 when that happened! And will forever buy Volvos because Safety is my priority !! Everything else are merely bonuses ….
I've noticed that car reviewers hardly ever talk about the stereos. When they do it's almost always the briefest mention possible too. It's strange. I guess since RU-vid is so aggressive about copyright strikes or whatever it makes sense basically no one lets us hear anything, but to avoid talking about it entirely? And yeah I definitely pay attention to stereos when I'm shopping. It's one of the top considerations. Some people plan to take the car to an aftermarket place immediately anyway but that's not always an option.
Had 2 XC60’s and more recently a GLC the xc60 is by far my favourite, I would have got another but the prices went mental , great car but too much cash
@@binflydushy some shocking news… Volvo have production plants outside of China too! Even more shocking news is that Volvo has full control over the manufacturing plants in China!
I bought the 2023 XC60. My first Volvo after 30 years of Toyota ownership. Very pleased. Volvo does an excellent job keeping you posted through emails.
The only thing that might be "the same as it's always been" regarding the main infotainment screen might be the LCD itself. The software is completely new. It was Volvo's own Sensus at launch, but has been replaced with a new Android Automotive based system from model year 2022. Otherwise, a great punchy review, Mat!
Strange that they got rid of the Drive Mode Selector roller switch that was always by the Engine Start switch in the center console and made it go via the infotainment but I guess thats a way to implement some cost saving especially if theres a supply issue... not a good solution imo though. Physical buttons are better! To a point...
Yup, seems like a stupid descision and its annoying. The left hand button on the left hand of the steering wheel in the Google based cars now does nothing, they could put the drive modes on that!
I had the 2018 xc60 and now own a current 2021 model, and the bonnet is a thing!! When k first opened the new one thought they left the struts in service mode but turns out they haven't! I can close it as I'll over 6 foot but my wife at just over 5 foot can only stand and dream 😂
I also have a 2018 XC60, I don’t know how the trims differ, but I have the range topping one in Mexico and it is a marvel, my dad has a Q8 but I prefer to drive the Volvo. and also the dealership modified mine adding 40 hp without cancelling the warranty, the thing is a rocket, I raised it to 230kmh effortlessly , shame that they have limited it to 180kmh
I just bought a T8 hybrid last week. Its a 69plate. It is F**King rapid. The Mrs fancied me a wee bit more that day. Genuinely an amazing bit of kit and it drives like a dream.
@@purwantiallan5089 thank you. Yes i think indeed. But in the review, they said that the maximum speed is 180km/h or 112 mph (software locked) … so I was curious … its a bit of a shame to have 450 hp and not being able to drive faster than those speed …
I still have my 2012 R design which is @0:55 they are amazing vehicles, fast and sleek not a heat seeker like M's or AMG's. They have classy designs like Audi's in my opinion and it's very quick. The Swedish are doing it right. 😊
I don't know why people call that "Posch" or "Luxurious" when it's hard plastic everywhere, it's more on Ford/VW level in my opinion. We have seen this design for 8 years now, it's boring and looks like 2015 car, sorry Volvo fanboys
Excellen review. Matt, as for the headrest: You cannot move it as on all Volvos. It is higher than most, so it fits all heights. The idea is, that most people do not adjust their headrest completely. Also, the steering wheels on Volvos are manual, so the driver isn not locked in case of a collision when the power is out.
Mat and as it seems no other journalist understands Volvo fix headrests and speed limiters or counless other details Volvo does with a purpose. Its based on research but the journalists dont even try to cover it yet make an in depth research why some features are as they are...
I must say, those seats are lovely and comfortable, but that particular fabric is awful if you’ve got kids or a dog. Go for the leather, it’s way more superior.
Volvo last year has taken a stake in carwow with the stated goal to drive visibility of the brand and draw prospective customers to its online sales channels, where the company wants in a few years to have half of its sales. How Mat is influenced by this investment?
Mine is a 2012 version and still going strong, having done only 100,000 km. Think it will be good for another few years. Great car, and to be honest, all that I need. Safe car, reliable and easy to drive. Not sure I really like too much electronics, prefer a driver’s car.
I’m on to my third XC60 in its current incarnation. Have to say the change to Android/Google is a disappointing backward step compared to the old Volvo system. It might improve with future updates but so far mine has been back to the dealership twice since it was purchased in January. The first over air update completely crashed the car which had to be dragged on to a low loader. Generally the IT is more laggy than the old system and routinely fails to recognise my mobile. Final grouch, for a £50k car why does it only offer wired Apple Car Play??
Volvo suck as much as any other vehicle. Google Volvo problems there are plenty. They only rate 3 out 5. They fall apart and they are expensive to repair. Get yourself a nice Toyota. Problems yes but much more reliable than Volvo.
What is with Matt recently saying 18 and 19 inch rims are too small? Too small for what? 20 plus rims are more expensive, easier to damage and worse ride quality
Matt, as for the climate, just press the voice button, ask for, switch on air con, raise fan speed set temp in fact everything, so you don’t need to use the central screen. I’ve a b4 which is the mucky oil burner with hybrid assistance and regularly see 50 mpg..
I am not sure about the complaint of the HVAC controls not being physical, as if you set the HVAC to auto it will keep the vehicle at the perfect temperature. If you want to adjust the temperature, you just say Hey Google set the temperature to 20 degrees Celsius. It works quite well, and allows you not to have to ever take your eyes off the road or be distracted.
Something you won't notice in this test is the fact that the "All wheel drive" in these plugin hybrids is actually just god awful in real conditions where you'd actually kind of want it. Such as snow or ice. It's because there is no actual AWD, it's the electric motors in the back that drive the rear wheels and the actual ice engine in the front has nothing to do with the AWD system. This makes the system really really bad in conditions where you actually want AWD. It just doesn't work as it should. It's assisted front wheel drive. This only applies to the plug-in hybrids. The systems in the competitors (Merc, BMW and AUDI at least) are just superior, since they are proper AWD systems.
Volvo was never about engines infact they never made any engine over 2.0 I. The history etc in the ending if ford era with 3 litre 5 cylinder engines were produced They are more into safety
@@tesla_models you cannot be more wrong. Volvo used to build good strong engines. All above 2.0 liters. Nonesense of small engines and limiters only started after Greta/Woke culture came to place and when Volvo hired more marketing women than engineers. And when Teslacucks became a cult. Old T6 and D5 all were above 2.0 liters, and pretty powerful engines too.
I've been watching Matt since he was working for Carbuyer and just today my dad called me out of thin air that he and mum are considering buying an XC60, and 5 mins later I get a notification that you are reviewing the exact same car. Unbelivable.
It’s definitely one of the better looking medium size SUVs but I disagree on it vs the XC90. To me the XC90 looks like a much better proportioned vehicle and a proper SUV. But maybe I’m biased, given I own an XC90 and I utterly despise crossovers with a burning passion. The 60 has always looked a bit crossover-ey to me…
Is there by any chance you could do a mid-size luxury SUV comparison with this, an Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, BMW X3, Porsche Macan and a Tesla Model Y just to create an overall context? Thank you.
A comparison video is coming up check the time stamp 8:00 where you can see the Q5, X3 and GLC parked together while Mat is showing the boot space of them individually…
I had several Volvo's in the past and they were great value for a fairly premium feel car, but then they just got silly expensive and now largely punching above their weight.
We owned a 2020 XC60 R-Design, and have just taken delivery of our 2023 B6 Ultimate. Both cars had the maximum configuration. I have to say, I'm not particularly impressed with this iteration. Sure the wireless Android Auto is cool. The trade-offs are however: a less sporty feel (yes, I know, it's a comfort SUV), no self-parking (this was such a nice feature for tight spots downtown), speed limiter at 180 kph (I've gotten, sorry *heard*, our 2020 could get up to 220 with relative ease), the driving mode switching is unnecessarily complicated. It's disappointing to see such changes. Maybe the speed limiter is a Canada only thing.
I like the review and the car! I actually own a V60 myself - just one minor complaint - at 8:16 you can actually see the two buttons you can use to fold down the rear seats. So you dont need to lean inside the car at all
My parents have that car (MY2022), and the long term average fuel consumption is 73,5 mpg or 3,2 l/100km. At wintertime, you can expect about 30 miles or 40-50km of electric range, and at summertime you can pretty easily reach 50 miles or 80km of pure electric range.
