The new VW Passat GTE now drives up to 56 kilometers (WLTP) purely electric and also features partially autonomous driving thanks to the new Travel Assist. During my test drive in the VW Passat GTE Estate I show what the Passat GTE 2019 really offers.

Some corrections over the information presented in the video: 3:15 the Variant GTE has 483 liters in the boot. Regular (ICE) Variant has 650 liters. The battery and the 50 L fuel tank does use some space. But 483 L that are expandable vertically to use the full height of the vehicle is very practical. 6:15 the B mode in the DSG stands for [Regenerative] Braking for one-foot driving, not Boost. To get the sporty feel and the full power (electric boost for the internal combustion engine), you have the GTE button.

I remember when the B5 passat came out in 1996, it was so ahead of it;s time, forward looking at least 5 years in the future compared to other brands and it defined a generation of VW design language. All of these new Passats though, I cant tell the new 2020 apart from a 2009... What the hell happened to VW design???
