Your first day as a waitress/waiter will be exciting and stressful! If you are a new waiter or new waitress in the Food and Beverage industry, you have to know in advance few things that will make your first day at work a little easier! You have to know how to be a good waitress/ waiter.

It takes a week or two to learn the menu perfectly! You just have to put the effort! Remembering the table's order will take little longer! The best thing is that you know what exactly scares you, so you can now start working to overtake your fears! Don't let it linger!

@@summerrrr188 It has been great! A week in, I was being very patient with learning and was observing EVERYTHING that others did. I had times in the first week, where I thought "fuck this, I can't remember these stuff, I'd rather quit". But after the first week, I got hang of it. Started understanding everything and started remembering the menu, which made me happy! I finally got it all down and at the end of the second week I felt accomplished! Don't worry guys! The first week will be hard, but observe everything! You will start understanding and getting all the teqniques down, trust me! In all and all, it was the best experience I could have chose for my first job! Being a waiter is very cool! You will get to know a lot of different people, some may be a grumpy, but trust me if you smile and keep ur own mood up! Nothing will stop you👌💪

It’s my first shift as a waiter in 1 hour. I’m scared. I’m nervous. I’m a really slow writer and I’m scared incase I spell something wrong. I’m also scared incase I can’t find the table. I’m also scared incase I drop the trays full of drinks 🍹 so yeah kinda nervous. I’m 16 too so this is my first part time job. Wish me bloody luck because I’m gonna need it!!

I’ve just got used to the table numbers outside and now we’re opening for dine in tomorrow so I’ll need to get my head around more tables

Don't worry, no one has died yet because of workign as a waiter! Learn as much as possible! JOin the online course- it is free and tehn practice! YOu will find out that it is not as bad as you think as soon as you start working!

I started working right when I turned 16 and yes it was scary, and yes I needed to memorise, but apart from all that it’s a really great opportunity to learn social skills, quick thinking and improvising, and new tricks. the rude customers won’t phase u once u get used to working.

I’m currently in my training week at a Seasons 52 and I’m most nervous about not knowing the menu (it changes seasonally), making difficult people happy, and of course dropping plates. Thank you so much for making these videos! They’ve been very helpful and encouraging so far,

Hi Kudoku, how is everything going right now? Take your time! The menu changes all the time every restaurant but you still have to learn it. This is basics if you want to feel comfortable and limit the mistakes you will make on the floor! From there, learn wine and drinks, and of course the steps of service! Take the free online course and you will see how that will change you life! Good luck!

Mig it’s really not that bad it was my second day at the trial and i did much better than yesterday i ended up breaking a glass yesterday but they were so nice, just don’t be nervous like i was and you will learn everything soon just keep on working hard, good luck❤️

The Waiter's Academy First day with the trainer was stressful. She had to take on 10 tables by herself and was moving lightening fast with the computer system and just basically memorizing most of the order inputs in her head after she wrote them down just once at the table. I’m sort of afraid that is what I have to amount to after my 5 day training period is up. I’m legitimately petrified.

WELL, IT IS JUST THE FIRST DAY SO IT IS LITTLE SCARY BUT YOU HAVE 4 MORE LEFT AND YOU WILL START FEELING THE JOB BETTER! THAN OFF COURSE YOUR MANAGERS WILL HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION IF THEY WANT TO PUT YOU OUT THERE TO THE WOLVES TO EAT YOU ALIVE OR THEY WILL GIVE A CHANCE TO GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER FIRST! IF YOU STILL HAVE DOUBT YOU CAN HANDLE A FULL STATION TELL THEM TO GIVE YOU COUPLE OF DAYS ON A HALF STATION! THAT WAS A VERY GOOD PRACTICE IN GRAND LUX CAFE. THE NEW WAITERS WERE WORKING TWO WEEKS ON A HALF STATION. WHATEVER IT IS JUST KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN IN YOUR POSITION AND THEY HAVE MADE SO YOU CAN MAKE IT TOO! AND DON'T EXPECT TO MAKE IT WITHOUT MISTAKES! THERE WILL BE A LOT OF MISTAKES AT THE BEGINNING DON'T LET IT GET TO YOU! JUST WORK AS HARD AS YOU CAN AND LEARN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! HOPEFULLY THE MONEY IS WORTH IT :) GOOD LUCK, MY MAN!

Hey A, I was once almost thrown out of the ship because the boss thought I am terrible! It was my first job too and I couldn't do anything! My advice is to watch the videos one by one and practice while watching! Learn to carry plates, trays and all other important for the waiter things and then go get another job! YOu will do much better the next time! Good luck and keep your head up!

Once it happened to me. a guest order for chicken tikka masala but what I punched in is chicken tikka. It's happened in the very beginning. Since then, I realized that a waiter has to be a best listener.

As an aspiring student of food and beverage service management, it's an opportunity that I had found and watched your videos. It is my desire to work in food service related industry such as in hotels, restaurant, resort or in a cruise line. I wish I can haul the time and can work as a waiter right away. That's how excited I am to have that work, unknowing the difficulties of the field I am wanting, specially as a beginner. Well, speaking of difficulties, I am afraid that as a waiter I can't do my duties properly and effectively. I am scared of the idea that I can't get the customers order properly, I'm afraid that on my first day of work, I am shaking and can't carry tray appropriately, or I can spill water or wine on the customers table; that's really shameful. But then, I believe that with knowledge , passion, including observation and eagerness to learn, everything will be all right. Thus, the first experience might not as bad as what we usually thought.

Hi Jessa, you have said it right and I believe you wll have a great career in the Hospitality Industry! It's perfectly normal to feel that way but it is a process and you will learn as you said day by day and get better with every other day! Reading your message I can tell that you have the most important characteristics for a waitress: communication skills and passion. Everything else you can learn and perfect with time. Best of luck! We all are on the first job, Jas! Try to calm yourself because that is what will make the difference! Those people expect to see someone nervous and scared and if you show up with a big smile and confidence you will blow their mind! I'm 14 now: 15 on 15th April 2019. I'm from the Uk and my job I want to have is a waitress. Another thing is if someone can't speak English very well, use a translator or point to the things on the menu. I think that being a waitress and waiter is a heart-warming job..

Ask for help from other staff- but work out whos genrally nice. The Waiter's Academy it was great! I just arrived 2 hours ago from the job. The hardest part was not knowing the menu, so sometimes I couldn't just take the order, because the guest asked everything!!! But the other waiter were so cool and helped me when I asked them. It is a stakebar, but it was great man, I learned so much in one day, Feels good. God bless u

I literally told my self I wanna do catering yesterday and my friend helped me out by asking his boss. And all night I couldn’t sleep cause I get overwhelmed that I won’t be able to catch what people are saying and I’ll forget the menu. Only trained for 3 days and they expected me to know everything inside the restaurant such as the menu, where everything is, side work, the computer system, drink, etc. I just feel overwhelmed because they think I'm not good enough since I cant memorize everything and how they run the restaurant in 3 days.

H8 Sarah, this is common practice in our business. That's why I created the tutorial, How to be the best waitress from day one. Anyway, don't put yourself down. Keep learning and try your best. There are people who simply love to put new waiters down, dont pay attention to them. There are good people around you. Identify them and stick with them and learn as fast as you can. It takes time but you will turn the tide.. Good luck

Had 2 shifts at the local buffalo wild wings, I work as a cook at outback full time but I've gone done to 4 days a week. I am serving 3 days a week I've had 2 shifts so far and I've made 82 dollars. I'm super happy about that, cash always helps during the week. I'm using it as a entry beginner job so I can learn the art of serving as well.

For me, it's not that I need to be a waiter, it's more like I wish to be a waiter. I was working as a waiter already as a kid. Others were playing soccer or do whatever normal kids do. I was working in a local village restaurant for poor people. It was great :) But then somehow I never had a great training beside the local bar, so I decide to try out many different works. Now I saw in my village a sign that they need a waiter. I will have the chance to work for one night. After that, I am pretty sure that they take me. Now I don't want to be just a waiter, I want to become the best waiter, so everybody wants to go to that restaurant to have an amazing experience :) I love your videos so much. I saw already many mistakes I have done 20 years ago. I learnt in one night already so much I am happy to know you, so I can ask you everything I need to know to become en awesome waiter.

2EZ, this is exactly why I started this channel! I had this young people coming to work and telling me thay are scared before the shift and they hated the job because of the stress! Stay focused and keep working hard! Learn! This is the most important thing! They need to see that you are learning fast and you are getting better and better with every other day! Communicate that to your boss! Tell him that you understand why he is mad at you and that you will do everything to get better in very short time and be a really good waiter for him! Good luck and remember that being scared doesn't help you at all! You can do this as any of us! You just need the time and the effort to learn everything correct!

We talked already about you being introverted but as I said earlier you can overtake this! Your experience as a cook and runner will help you greatly to transition into a waiter! I would say without a doubt: GO FOR IT! Watch some of the videos and try to learn as much as you can but the best teacher is your own experience, so get a job and do it! I had a supervisor at a job a had not anything to do with restaurant business but I believe the guy just didn’t like me I don’t know. But my job was fast pace and for a new person that can take little to catch on. I was doing best I could but this guy would always take everything I seriously. Other supervisors would be calm to a point but they talk to me like an actual human being and clearly told me what they wanted done. No problem with those supervisors and they seemed to have no problem with me except the one guy it kinda got annoying but I just kept my mouth shut did my work cause I know the main boss liked me and everyone else didn’t seem to have an issue with me. But you just get people like that

What do you do if someone pronounces a french wine and you don't know how to spell it? Some french wines are about 6 words long, how would you know how to abbreviate it?

Good question! It is very hard to learn the names on the wine from foreign country but the French are the worst :) You ask the guest to show you which wine he means exactly and you apologize for asking but explain that you don't want to make a mistake and this is the best way to avoid one! Also, at the restaurant I work at, the chef's will put meals on the counter for us to take out, there are bills on the side that should correspond with the food and the table number. However, I'm really unfamiliar with the menu and what the food on the menu looks like. So, I'll read multiple bills and I have no idea how to tell what food on the counter corresponds with what bill. Idk how I can learn this and the staff seem frustrated with me because I just stare at the food blankly trying to figure out what food = what french name, but I have no idea how I could know? I'm English and all of the menu is in French.

Tomorrow is my first job, and I’m so nervous,scared at the same time.I’m always think “how I forgot the table?,the menu?,drop the glass” this is give me anxiety. Idk why I’m so scared,like I’m from college and my course is hospitality,in my college we have a restaurant and I always do job as a waitress,maybe because I have friends with me,but now I’m do it alone so I’m gonna be nervous and scared.Btw thank you for this video❤️sorry for my bad English “(

Hello, Syhrh! Congrats on your first job! You will do well, don't be scared. It is normal to have a little anxiety because it is the first time in your life that you will work in a real restaurant! Make sure, you prepare as much as you can and then once you hit the floor, you will see how everything comes natural to you. Give yourself a few days and it will feel much, much better! My advice is to follow the tutorial for: First day at work as a waitress. Google it and it will pop up from WaitersNetwork.com! You will have much easier time. Best of luck!
