From a form and function perspective, this is innovative. As a former cabinet builder, I was cringing through the whole video. With no joinery, you're dependent upon the glue to hold everything together, and with end grain meeting face grain, there's not enough lateral contact for a good hold. With no sealer applied, several days of humidity could delaminate the plywood and destroy most of those joints in the cabinet box. If you were using a thin fiberglass over the whole project, it would likely last for 30 years. Unfinished, without proper joinery, and without structural reinforcing, I would estimate this cabinet to fall apart in fifteen years or less, not even long enough to grow the lumber to replace it. Sorry to be so harsh, but you could do better. Finger joining your plywood is not going to take more than a few extra centimeters of stock material, but make a cabinet that will last twice as long. Sealing and finishing will add even more life to it, making it last for a lifetime, possibly longer. Also, waxing your movable joints will make the operations smoother and reduce wear on the wood. Lumber isn't cheap, these days, and trees only grow so fast. If we carpenters are to be able to continue our trade for centuries to come, we must push ourselves to construct things with precision and quality, so it can last longer than the it takes to grow the trees to replace what lumber we use. It's practical, responsible, and profitable. I wouldn't buy this cabinet, but if it were built with better techniques and finished well, I'd pay $300 or more for it. That's the real difference of doing things well. I wish you luck, and I hope you grow in your carpentry skills.
That is a very thoughtful and well worded criticism! Your observations helped me spot the flaws in an otherwise brilliant bit of engineering. Which, as a novice maker myself, is good practice in spotting the opportunities for improvement in my own projects. Thank you for taking the time to share, both you and the video maker taught me things today!
My first time seeing one of your videos. The plans being shown right up front, followed by a straightforward (and gorgeously shot) build video gets an instant follow from me! Love the idea and design, and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff!
and making it seem like he is more interested in showing off/impressing, than engineering and craftsmanship of his builds. example, great to use French cleats, but that cabinet is not going to stay sturdy for long. The weight of the cabinet plus the heavy contents will delaminate and weaken the structural integrity.
I love this idea. I think If I made it myself though I would do two things. Move the hole/pull handle towards the bottom of it's going to be high up since I'm short, and depending on what I'm storing, maybe add something like a low "fence" to the shelves to help keep objects in place as I'm sliding the drawers in/out.
Excellent timing. I appreciate our designs for the articulation. My kitchen panty is 2m tall, and1/2 wide and 2/3 deep. The depth makes it impractical past 1/3 the depth, and I was wondering about how to divide the vertical by 3, then move the units out for access. I think your closing one side is critical for success, and the use of caster wheels will insure stability, even fully loaded. You answered many questions for me about this design.
Estupendo! Deslizable vertical + deslizable horizontal con giro de 180. Hace tiempo que no veía algo tan innovador como ésto. Gracias por compartir. Saludos desde Panamá.
Thank you for sharing, I think this would make a very nice spice wrack also, just a smaller version with a nob or handle, with a rail on the inside. I love the concept.
That is brilliant design. So often it isn't LACK of space that make cupboards seem in short supply, it is the lack of USABLE space. I use wire racks, which are my cheap way to improvise drawers, to maximize using the back of cabinets. It makes it so much more accessible.
Turntables are your friend. I have them in every cabinet so things can be rotated to the front. Spices, cleaning supplies, shop supplies, booze is all on appropriately sized turntables. I buy every one I see in thrift stores.
Great way to present this project, the filming and editing was top notch 👍 would have liked to see you seal the piece with a top coat and maybe add a lip to the shelves so things don't fall out when you're opening the drawers but small details I guess 😊
I was thinking about the same idea just last week...... NOT! Hahaha. Such a brilliant idea. I haven't seen someone this creative for a long time. Thanks for sharing and thanks for giving the plans for free for those who would like to build the same thing
B.E.A.uuuutiful! I love how you turn it 45° so you can see the whole inside of it. Your mount system is the best system! Its so versatile. You make something new, then you like "I could just hang it!" Hahaha amazing! But I don't know if the milwaukee and stanley batteries are going to fight for there spot 😂😂
Really neat idea! What I'd change is to make the sidewalls perforated (have some holes in it), so You could actually see what's in them. Also, more holes in the front for gripping would not hurt the structure.
Great design, and the whole configurable wall of the stuff you made is genius! Fantastic. Do you think there is a limit to the weight you can put in those shelves to where they will not move in and out easily or may wear the joints out?
This design appears to be a zero tolerance design when it comes to the expansion of the wood from atmospheric changes. It works great, until a factor changes with either humidity or it pivoting from being overloaded
Hoping to build my own small RV/large camper/self propelled THOW on a cab and chassis… these would really be great for making everything more accessible (important since I’m disabled and sometimes have a hard time getting up or down)…. THANK YOU for showing this to me…..
@@wyaldkingdom Eventually the glue and nails will loosen, and the joints in the “bale” frame that lets the drawer pivot, take a lot of stress. Traditional joinery such as mortises and tenons or dovetails would be much stronger as the joints are as strong as the wood.
Of my friends in in my case I will send the one in your company that u know how how many hours in this message and and a good idea how many hours for you are receiving certain things I can you you for taking taking it will help work and in a different way way you for taking so o9 the following is not working in this this weoek week or early to get get back in time I can you give us us a good o to doo the trick in
Okay. I'm subscribed to this channel but all I can do is drool on your creations. As much as I want to replicate the things you do, I don't think I'm going to be as precise as you are with just a circular saw.
The storage cabinets are ingenious! Why are you not selling them on Amazon? I would definitely buy one and who knows how many more if they are reasonably priced. Have you auditioned for Shark Tank yet? How many other fantastic ideas do you have in your head?
