Made my first carving from your video. It turned out great. 4 stitches 😂 As soon as they heal I’m trying a little guy. My man hid my knife until my gloves come though.

Many years ago we had a Dutch gentleman give a demo on carving a wooden shoe (clog) with a similar knife to our carving club (OWC). We were astounded at how quickly and skillfully he had the exterior roughed out. Perhaps ‘roughed’ is not completely accurate, as it would have needed little clean up. He then began the hollowing - another set of unique tools, another story.

Great knife! I also have several of these, they never sease to amaze. What I do is wrap the eye with some rope, like paracord. This makes it a lot more quite than steel om steel, and at the same time it makes the eye smaller so that the hook doesn’t move around so much.

Our old people used the same tool for fine cutting tobacco leaves. After leaves are dry, we would stack dozens of leaves and fine cut it with identical tool.

Looks gorgeous. Funny - I'd never heard of them in 70+yrs of life and now yours is the second YT video I've seen about them in the last three days. The other knife I saw had a straight point rather than a hook and got jammed into holes in a piece of wood for leverage. I think he'd forged it himself. Very interesting tools. Really traditional. Love it.

I knew him as Pete and every year he used to set up by the National Art Center here in Ottawa and sell clogs that he had spent the winter making. All different sizes and he would custom adjust them as needed, even a few days later as you settled into them. Neat to see a tool he might have used.

Dougie, I think you are actually blushing when you use & talk about your new tool. An amazingly SHARP tool. Keep out of reach of people who shouldn't be around sharp things. AND this is about the sharpest blade I've ever seen. It appears you are cutting through a carrot, but it was good carving wood. So very BEAUTIFUL! Cheers, Doug ⛏️🗡️⚒️🔩🔧🔱🔪🔥🔦📐🧰 in in

I just (yesterday) received mine (smaller, I think). First thing I did was countersink those wood screws in the handle. They were sticking out, irritating to the hand. I also have a bent gouge from this same company in Ukraine; they do a great job. Jane Mickelborough really knows how to use these stock/clogger's knives.

I made one by taking the handles off a big drawknife, bending a hook in one end, straightening the other and adding a handle. It’s fantastic. One day I might get a real one but meanwhile mine does the job. I find that between the angle of the wood piece and the knife you can do curves and fine cuts before moving to the Sloyd knife and gouges. Great for removing end grain and outer bulk of bowls too. Have fun.
