I may not be the first to use this, but I've never seen anyone else do it, and it looks so good.
It's easier than a standard half-lap because you can just cut one side to length at 45 degrees. The other piece is easy to get right, because halfway is just between the corners.

Thanks for that. I have wondered about its strength myself. I will have to do test video, but I don't have a good means of applying consistent force to it. I'll come up with something. I think it should be fairly comparable to a standard half-lap as it's still just half the wood removed. If you beat me to running a test on it, send me the link to your video ;)

@@PetesPractise i’d imagine a jig that would hold one leg vertically, and the other would stick out at a 90° angle. Then you could just stack weight on top of the horizontal leg and see when it fails. I saw some other woodworker do this for different joints…. But I don’t know which woodworker and which video.!
