Check out John & Mandy youtube channel's latest video for a workshop tour and some behind the scenes info explaining the move into the workshop etc. • Moving into our own wo...
The workshop space is perfect, not too mig and not too small and has meant the pace of the van build has now picked up quite a lot. In just a few days we have moved in, got everything organised & setup and got the flooring down, started installing the Solway Panels as well as a few other little jobs.

I never knew interior door moulds existed. Makes for a clean tough waterproof layer that can be cut out if a window is later desired.

You should get a cheap submersible shower pump and collapsible dog bath and hula hoop for shower curtain to use in workshop/van.

The panels make a really nice professional job and it’s nice to have a change from vans covered in wood.

John, really enjoying the van build. Being a retired aircraft engineer I appreciate when a job is well thought-out and executed properly and you’re certainly doing that. I’ve watched a number of van builds and never liked all the wood panels with hundreds of screws, so I’m really liking the plastic panels you’re using. I’m looking forward to the electrical installation and how your ideas are going to workout. It’s going to be an awesome van conversion….I did cringe a few videos back with the initial window fit that ended up needing a replacement door. If you’d been on your own I’m sure that wouldn’t have happened. Keep going as your are mate 👍

I wish they did panels like that for the vivaro. They look really professional when they are on. The van is going to look amazing once done- and so much better to do in a work unit than the rain and cold! I'm glad you are cracing on and can I say , loving seeing you and Mandy making videos together again and looking happy. Regards and respect-Kenny

I agree that the panels look OK and make the fit a bit quicker. The cost would prevent me using them and wood always smells good is a bit more individual but can be a faff. Loving the build vlogs 😊

I have to say, I like the idea of being able to remove panels fairly easily in the future, should you wish to upgrade stuff, which knowing you John, no doubt you will do. That unit is a game changer for sure, apart from bumble being left outside in the rain. Looking forward to the next edition.

Hi John you're moving forward nicely. I finished my conversion 2 years ago now and i can honestly say if i could have changed one thing i would have fitted my electric step first thing as my legs and hips were absolutely knackered by the end and to make it worse i also had the van up on railway sleeper ramps for easy access underneath. keep up the good work.

I'm sure you've probably tested already... would the sticky foam deadening you tried before work to deaden the panels? Too thick? Maybe just the centre of the panels? I have thin window draught excluder where my wall boards meet metal.
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Год назад
It’d be far too thick mate, the panel fit tolerance is very small.

Hi John . Do you know how much is the weight for all of the solway panels? What you think which is lighter use 12mm plywood everywhere or solway panels?
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Год назад
12mm ply is far too thick & heavy and is really best for the floor only, 6mm ply is fine for walls and ceiling. The full Solway kit was 21kg

Can I ask where did you get the extender to make the back door shut properly. I have the same issue. Really enjoying the build 👍
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Год назад
I elongated the holes for the bolts, this allowed me to pull the latch in further towards the van and that makes the doors shut correctly now. This is the set I used to elongate the holes amzn.to/3FPNHSu

Was there any reason you moved away from a floating floor to a bonded floor, only reason i ask is PIR boards have been known to delaminate in certain situations over time when bonded to other materials be nice to have a catch-up video in a few months' time to see how it's all holding up
