I have been a Ham Operator for 30 plus years and I was and am fine now with a radio that is blank no programming. But as long as the pre programmed frequencies are removable that's fine.
We really need a standard for all radios to do the GPS thing (when they don't support APRS) in a way compatible with each other. Each vendor having their own incompatible implementation makes the feature almost useless in practice, as everyone having the same radio is pretty rare in the field.
I think pre-programming popular simplex channels was a great idea! After getting my Tech-Plus in 1996, my first radio was a Radio Shack HTX-202, 2M ht. I had no clue about programming a menu driven radio. I hoped it would be like programming a scanner of that day but it was not. I begged a ham doing parking lot duty to put in some simplex channels so I could use it on the way home from the Greenville, SC hamfest. Your idea would have kept me from having to bother him. One thing you might want to do, is add encode only of 100.0 Hz PL on each band's call channel in case someone you potentially might try and contact on those frequencies has their decoder on.
I think as we see more of these types of radios coming out with all of these features a 3000 mah will be more common. I really like this radio but waiting on more reviews from people that have tried them in the field.
I wasn't going to buy this 2 weeks ago, but I'm glad I did! It's AWESOME! I can hit repeaters my UV9D+ has trouble with. Easy to manually program, and the Wouxun software isn't terrible. Plenty of choices for customization, and is big and beefy in the hand. Battery does take a second to figure out, but it seems to drain far slower than the 3200mh in my 9D+. Super happy! Maybe I missed it, manual says AM and FM modulation, but it says it’s not available on all bands. Which bands can do AM transmit? Also you said dual receive, can this do full duplex crossband for satellites? And if so, does UHF desense on VHF xmit?
2 radio camps exist. You either will die on a hill defending your love for APRS or you couldn’t possibly care less. Luckily I’m in the latter camp and think this radio will be a solid Analog HT.
@@randydinglehopper62 Disagree. GPS data can be valuable or of interest to folks independent of APRS functionality. For those that care about APRS, then I would agree that it should be APRS compliant. If you care about APRS, then I would agree, don't buy the radio ;) Regardless, early reports shows the radio splatters pretty badly and the power output is not as advertised. More testing is warranted.
Every one of the Wouxun radios that I've seen has one BIG flaw that can cause all kinds of problems. The issue is that one can not initiate a scan and then lock the keypad. This means that, in scan mode, an inadvertent bump of any keys or buttons on the radio will knock the radio out of scan, often without the user knowing it. I've talked to vendors about this until I'm blue in the face and they still don't "get it." Even the old Uniden BC-125AT scanner will lock the keypad while in scan mode. So will most all Icom, Kenwood, and Motorola commercial portable radios. Wake up, Wouxun!
I purchased one but had to return it. The sound quality was dire, especially on 2mtrs. It sounded to be off channel, but even adjusting for that didn't fix it. Maybe it only affected the early batch?

Does anybody prefer the Wouxun KG-UV9PX over the newly released KG-Q10H? If so, why? I'm curious which between the two has a clearer sounding speaker, easier programmability, and better battery.
The KG-Q10H is only permitted to transmit on Amateur Radio Bands. A full list of available Receive-Only frequencies is available in the description section at the bottom of the product page.
Back in the late 90 me and my brother got 2 Motorola radios for skiing they operated on frs channels and they could always do gmrs they had gps on the radios you had to load the reagin you were going to from a computer uding a serial cable. They were great. I used them driving before car gps was popular they would share location so we could easily find each other. Those radios were $700 back in eather 98 or 99. We had a fire and lots them.
I have two of these and they would have been my EDC but once any light hits the screen it becomes completely unreadable. The much cheaper Tidradio TD-H8 has a MUCH better screen. Too bad because otherwise this is a great radio. 10 watts would have been nice. On the plus side it is a quad band and has lots of memory.
Will this radio meet FCC transmit specifications? I’d love to buy one of these to use as a tech radio to maintain my repeaters. I have FM repeaters on all four bands this radio covers. The problem is that if these radios turn out to be spurious like most Chinese radios are, well that is the last thing you want to do is start transmitting on a busy RF site with a spurious radio.
I own a wouxun uv9px completely clean wouxuns radios tend to be the highest quality out there from the Chinese manufacturers I would definitely say top of the line

I want this radio lol but I can't justify switching after my uv9px love that radio too but maybe down the line will snag one for when I'm out fishing currently using the boafeng uvs9 for outdoor use since it's cheap and has the avaliable 8 watts
But does it come in black? 🙂 I know it doesn't now but will it in the future for those of us who aren't interested in the "rooty tooty fresh and fruity" colors.
Sounds like a great emergency radio for my 50 cal ammo can that has been converted to a faraday cage. Can this radio be MARS CAP modified? And is this radio full duplex?
The display is consistent with the more recent KG-935G Plus, and is even more customizable, so you may find that there is more potential with the KG-Q10H display-wise compared to the KG-UV8H
I'm almost sold on this radio. The big question is, is it possible to get this radio to transmit on GMRS frequencies? Also I have the KG-UV9D Mate, will that software be compatible with this radio? My guess to that answer is no but I've been wrong before. Please let me know, thanks and 73!
The software is not compatible with the KG-UV9 series, however the software is much improved and now has channel import/export support. Transmit is locked to authorized ham frequencies.
I would be happy with just a decent nylon case that doesn't have a cheesy clear front that's always blurry for my KG-UV8H that I bought from yall a couple of months ago. Spectre has one that fits it and the KG-935 for a quarter of what the radio costs! No thanks ! It looks like every other GI Joe pouch clone on Amazon but better quality .How hard is to make a model specific protective case with a stainless steel belt clip? They do it for thousands of different model cell phones . A owners manual in English instead of very vague Chenglish would be great too!
Will order probably once I see it on the chirp programable list, but like KS6DAY I’d prefer solid black that particular two tone layout isn’t overly appealing to me at least.
It is unfortunate that the mic connector is a K-type. If you attach the speaker/mic, you lose the IP67 feature. I certainly like the quad band aspect. 6 & 10 are pretty quiet for local use. Does anyone know of a high-quality quad band HT antenna?
@@osculant I have yet to see a Kenwood-style plug that is waterproof...I could be wrong about this radio. The Alinunce HD-1 and the Baofeng UV-9 have waterproof mic connectoions, similiar to the one on the Motorola radios that I used for over 15 years on the job..no ingress point for water.
The standard Wouxun programming cable (such as the PCO-001) does indeed work with the KG-Q10H! You can find additional accessories compatible with this radio on the product page.

Does this radio allow aviation channels listen and or transmit. I ask because my father is in the hellocopter and plane business and we follow him with a truck to refuel him and we are in areas that the trunked radio won't work
Hi John! In regards to Aviation bands, the KG-Q10H is only capable of receiving signals on them. It cannot transmit on airband, since it is intended as an amateur radio unit. The split PTT looks like a mistake here. I like a big button that stands out from the rest for easy pushing with gloves etc. lots of cool features but that may keep me away. Also is it compatible with the 18650 battery case the KG-S88G has?
The good news is that the function of each PTT is configurable. You could assign both PTTs to transmit on the active area and it would be similar to a single button. The KG-S88G 18650 case doesn't work with this model, but I wouldn't be surprised if one is available before too long.
Helloh, i am new to this. When i was young i had several cb radios. Like President Thomas and JFK. That kind of stuff. With this handheld radio ? Can you also communicate with CB radio ? 27 mc ? Or am i completely in the dark ? I will be going on a very long motorcycle trip. Riding through mountains and all kinds offroad. With no cell reception. I am looking for a handheld device that is very strong. That in case of an emergency i have something else then my phone alone. Does the 70cm de-sense when transmitting on 2m? I bought the KG-UV9 Mate for FM satellites, but transmitting on 2m de-senses the 70cm so you can't hear your downlink.
Msrp? Amazon links? Hopefully this is a trend in two way radios; actually giving the users what they want for real world scenarios and easier user interface. The usb-c charging and waterproof rating are awesome for outdoors and emergency use. The customizability is great for obsessive tech nerds. 😁🤓 I would love to see one like this with a few more bands added for am, fm, air band, marine band, etc. Basically, a two way swiss army knife of radios.
My very first question of any Chinese radio is, does it meet the FCC harmonic specs? If it doesn't, it's an utter waste of my time to watch a video. So I've stopped watching videos like this until such time as that question is answered in the affirmative right up front. Otherwise it's exactly like someone promoting all sorts of ads for a new car that won't pass the emissions tests. And there are indeed people hustling HT's on RU-vid that won't pass the emissions test. So I'll wait to watch a video till such time as I hear that these do, or don't.
You guys make me laugh, 6 meters is useful. Use it every day, plenty of activity in my area. I for one am glad a manufacturer is finally waking up and producing a radio with 6 meters in it for us hams who like to use the band.
Most Hams will never use the 6 meter or 220 meter bands on a HT. The 2 meter and 70 cm is what 95% of hams need. You're paying for what you will never use. Kenwood has a dual band HT with general receive and usb mode. That makes much more sense.
Wrong. VERY rare to see HTs with more than 2 or 3 bands all for two hundred and twenty bucks. This hand-held is going to be a game-changer. I have a GMRS Wouxun HT. Well built, easy to use, easy to program. Much better than earlier Wouxun radios and especially better than their competition. Have one of the new quad-band HTs on order. Fantastic that Wouxun is bringing out this radio. These will sell out fast. That there are people living in Hooterville where repeaters might be limited is a factor but as time moves forward, this radio will help contribute to the bands outside of the VHF and UHF which are already covered by products from the big Japanese manufacturers. Thank you Wouxun for bringing this radio to market. Now how 'bout something covering the 33cm and 25cm bands. Tougher sell but this quad band radio is going to be perfect!!?! 73 de W8GYV
I use 6 meters, hams use it, we need a radio with 6 meters in it, not all hams want to use the 2 meter band, 440 is a digital wasteland in my area.. There are plenty of dual and radios on the market now, give us hams who use the underutilized bands a break.

The $64,000 question: will this thing comply with FCC regulations on all four bands? We've seen a bunch of radios like the Quansheng that can transmit on those four bands (and a bunch of places outside them) but their output spectrum is terrible, with harmonics in some cases being MORE POWERFUL than the desired output! Based on the track record of Wouxun, I'm optimistic. But we shall see.
The programmable top and side buttons aren't new. The popular DMR radios have been doing it for years. But that degree of button programming on an analog-only radio may be new.
