Really enjoyed your review. It confirms my correct purchase of Tracer9 last week. I am a Yamaha fan boy because they have the best engines and features for the price. Yamaha have the best engines. Traded my Yamaha XSR900 in for this touring Tracer 9 GT because my bike usage has changed. Before the XSR900 I had a Yamaha MT10 Decided against buying the new mt10 because it is extremely ugly and my last bike was too hard on fuel and the fuel gage was useless. What a bad combination. Happy with my Tracer 9 decision

Thanks and I'm glad that you like the review. Now MT10? What in the world were they thinking designing its front?! Unless one decides to replace the whole front face or make it a cafe racer, then I think I also wouldn't want to look at this bike in my garage. I'm glad that you're happy getting the Tracer 9!

Good review, the only thing i found with your review in the complaint compartment was the seat. I find stock seats are not for permanent use. I believe most riders like myself always buy an aftermarket seat. All in all a good review for a motorcycle that i am interested in buying. The Multistrada V2 is another bike i was thinking of as well as the price and very low horsepower is a serious turn off for the price. Yes, the BMW X1000XR is a beast!!! Love the XR! Thanks for the review brother.

The seat can be upgraded for a comfort seat or even for comfort heated seat from Yamaha accessories catalog and is not expensive. Same with windshield, easy to swap for a touring version. worth to say the difference between 9 and 9GT is not just the semi-active suspension and cornering lights but also quickshifter and panniers. So the price difference between 9 and 9GT is not so high. Just panniers are like 1000 euros when purchased separately and that KYB Semi-active suspension is probably quite expensive. So the price is totally okay for GT upgrade for those who wants use the bike for long trips. Non GT, the 9 version is a bargain. Powerful engine, 6 axis IMU, ride-by-wire throttle, extensive traction control protections, cruise control and optional quickshifter for 200 euro extra is way to go for someone who is looking for best deal on the market.

I also think that especially the base Tracer 9 delivers quite a lot of value. All motorcycles got more expensive over the years so we might need to change our perspective, but looking at other offerings, some being truly ridiculous, then I believe it's fair to say that it's OK here. As for the seat and windshields, that's correct - they're available as additional accessories, which is kind of annoying as it shows that perhaps Yamaha knows how to design them properly but for whatever weird reason they decided to terrorize us or force to pay more for stuff that potentially works (I don't know that as I haven't tried their solutions). I'd suggest getting aftermarket parts to not support this kind of harmful strategy of Yamaha.

I have the 2020 model and I am 184cm (6' 1"), the only problem is the turbulence created by the windshield. I got a touring Puig shield, much better but still some buffeting. I added a cheap $25 flap deflector bought on amazon, and now, it's perfect on the lower setting.

Liked your review very much, thanks. And thank you for noting the clutch chatter. I just picked up a 2021 Tracer GT and I thought that the clutch issue was my particular bike and not others. Hi my friend. I am 1,82m tall, but I feel very uncomfortable with the seating position... My knees hurt... I have the foot pegs at the lowest position and the seat at the hi, but I still feel uncomfortable! I am thinking about changing the seat with another, more comfortable... I tend to slide forwards... 😭What do you suggest me doing? Should I try to get the foot pegs at the hi position and the seat at the lowest? I feel that this would hurt my knees more... 😭
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 10 месяцев назад
I think that if you already have this motorcycle, then the only option is working with the seat as you likely won't work with the foot pegs much more. Raising the seat by modifying it or buying a taller one and maybe raising the handlebar as far as other components allow is the only way. Another is to sell it and get a more of an adventure motorcycle instead.

Hi there, i own a GT. Haven´t riden the normal one but I like the semi active suspension. Mode 1 is for the good conditions and if you want it aggresive. Mode 2 is for bad roads or if you want to cruise.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 года назад
Thank you. I generally don't believe that those electronic/active/semi-active suspensions are worth much in motorcycles. Some say that in the case of Tracer 9, the one with its semi-active suspension seems a bit more comfortable but I guess the only way for you to find out and make sure is to try both. I've ridden the one with the optional semi-active suspension but haven't tried the standard one, so I'd be guessing here.
@Wave1dave
@Wave1dave 2 года назад
I have the GT version and you can definitely feel it when riding on roads with worse surface. Also what I noticed is that when you brake, it locks the suspension so the front does not dive. Sometimes it can be a little bit bouncy, but overall I like it.

Very good review. The only real concern might be the stability at higher speeds. What is your opinion about it? Thanks.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 года назад
I don't think that there was any nervous behavior at higher speeds. I haven't tested it on a highway actually but based on some runs at a higher speed, I wouldn't be bothered with it. The only thing that may cause a real problem then would be the windshield. It doesn't tend to get better with speed, so make sure you either replace the windshield with something that doesn't generate turbulences or get a deflector. I tend to be more of a new windshield person as the deflector with its mounting points may obstruct the view a bit more. One the other hand it can be adjustable on its own to direct a wind stream slightly, which I'd consider an advantage.

@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 года назад
I'm glad you like it and oh dear, this seat here in the Tracer is a true pain and I think it could actually be a significant problem for you as it was an issue for me already at 183 cm. This would definitely have to be addressed. Now about the Super Duke I cannot say much as I haven't ridden it yet but I'd expect it to cause a very different experience as there's a V2 engine sitting there. It could be brutally powerful in a way that might make a different impression riding around the city in the lower range of RPM. I'd be guessing that it also wouldn't feel as smooth as the Tracer at the same time. However, without riding it, no one cay say a thing really. As for the Tracer's seat, it can definitely be modified but I'd start with asking Yamaha to provide their own accessory seats for you to try first. They've got some I think so they may order them and let you see how you feel on those particular versions of a seat.

Hello! I'm a happy owner of a Yamaha Tracer 9 since June of 2021 and I've done more than 5000 km so far. I can tell you that the windscreen problem can be easily solved - I bought an aftermarket extension for the windscreen and it does it's job very, very good. Keep in mind that I'm 185 height and I can go 140km/h with the helmet visor up. There is no buffeting at all....only on the sides (left and rifgt of the handlebar, because of the shape of the screen). So bear in mind that the windscreen problem" is not really a problem.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 года назад
@Dan A. - thanks for responding to Daniel with your experiences. And yeah, thankfully there are aftermarket solutions to the windshield problem. Perhaps what Daniel called an extension is a thing called a deflector that you attach to the top of a windshield. Another option is a full replacement. Funny thing is that Yamaha themselves offer other windshields too... I wouldn't trust nor support them due to forcing us to look for external solutions.

Ja osobiście do miasta wybrałbym Tracera 9 bez dwóch zdań.

@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 года назад
I'd say that it's not worrying but if you take a look at Ducati motorcycles, they may feel a bit more sturdy. Then if you take a look, sit and touch any BMW motorcycle, then others don't feel like they're necessarily that well-made and with such high quality materials. Just looking at the handlebar area tells you a lot as there are most of the things that you come in contact with and if they don't make a good impression, it tells you a lot about how other things are approached too.

I own an f900xr in BMW’s top trim and all the extras. I also test rode the BMW s1000xr and it is an absolutely fantastic motorcycle. I did not and would not consider a Yamaha tracer 9gt for the following reasons. 1.) The motorcycle is a bargain basement budget built motorcycle. 2.) The budget brakes are inferior to the Brembo on the BMWs in initial and progressive stopping power and overall quality and feel. 3.) It doesn’t have steal braided brake lines. 4.) It doesn’t have have electronically adjustable preload rear suspension. 5.) The small tft screens are the worse I’ve ever seen. 6.)The tracer doesn’t have a gps system from the factory. 7.) It also doesn’t have Bluetooth capabilities. 8.) The bags can’t fit a full face helmet and they also look stupid like the rest of the bike. 9.) The design of the bike looks like the designers were confused and just decided to merge two styles of bike together. 10.) The engine being in between a 2 and a 4 just make its lack the torque of a twin and the power of a 4. Saying that the tracer (with a claimed 117 hp) is closer to the s1000xr (with a claimed 165 hp) than the f900xr (with a claimed 105hp) is ridiculous. To pretend the f900xr is slow because it makes 12 less hp but not to say the tracer is slow when compared to the s1000xr when it has like 50 less hp is also ridiculous. If it came down to riding a bargain basement Yamaha or nothing I would just give up riding motorcycles. Yamaha did not and cannot (it seems) make a better motorcycle than BMW’s XR line but instead relies on marketing to make up for the obvious inferiority of both the bikes and the brand. The Yamaha has a little more hp than the f900xr (at a much higher rpm) because it has an extra cylinder, semi active suspension in the front and not just in the rear like the f900xr and a gallon more fuel capacity. That’s it. Everything else the BMW wins in. Better electronics, higher torque at a lower rpm, better fuel efficiency, lighter weight, far superior fit and finish, superior radial mounted Brembo brakes front and rear, far and away more superior TFT screen with gps and Garmin ready gps mount installed from the factory, superior controls, superior handling and ground clearance, more suspension travel, better lean angle and BMW any given years is number one or two premium vehicle brand in the world so you know your riding luxury.

Because I have driven both quite a lot, I disagree with you. f900xr is short of a small replica of the 1000xr that bmw tried to release with less expenses as possible and that's the reason it has a chinese engine. Its brakes are worst than the yamaha. Rear brake of bmw fades. Everyone says this and I am surprised you still have not realized. Its performance is not good for a 900cc engine. QS is not working smoothly, better not use it at all. Suspension is better in tracer. You forgot to mention that bmw has semi active only on rear in 2021. BMW 900xr is a very nice looking bike and I like a lot its keyless entry and the TFT dash with its connectivity abilities that yamaha does not have. But currently there is not a better sports tourer than tracer 9gt at that money. Check here 'ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C5SJO6trgz8.html' is a very detailed review. The Yamaha was ranked number one out of sports touring bikes for 2021 and the BMW 900xr was in the bottom 5th out of 10 bikes. It's basically unanimous among people who have rode both bikes that Yamaha is a better choice. Thats just among experts from almost every review I've seen. But if you're happy with your BMW then that's all that matters you shouldn't be comparing a bike you already spent money on to other bikes that people say are better it's going to make you hate the bike you own.

Oh boys, I guess we could argue pretty much about every point and its influence on a comparison between Tracer 9, F900XR and S1000XR, yet that would be easily an input for another 15-20 minute video. What I cannot get having not much explanation for some of the points mentioned in some of the comments. What I'd spill blood for is the claimed difference in brakes (whatever it means exactly), mentioning 1 kg of a weight difference and explaining the difference in power with a number of cylinders which is irrelevant. Push the Tracer in the city and push S1000XR and you'll clearly be even more surprised with how close they feel in such conditions. Of course on a track Tracer won't be a match but it's not the point here and wasn't the point in the video. Ground clearance is unknown to me so I'd gladly see the data for it. Now as for the comments further, I'd say that Tracer's Quickshifter required more force and that would be enough for me to say that using it was less enjoyable than using BMW's. Also, BMW's rear suspension is not active in any way according to my knowledge. But what's totally non-negotiable is the wind protection mentioned by @Riders Only.. which Tracer fails at and that's visible on camera. So this made me wonder if it can actually differ between the markets. Who knows ;)
