A sober reminder for those who call the NYC of the 80's "better times" and other platitudes. I see it in all the comments of videos from that time. This is the past revisiting early 2022.

Really? In 1980s NYC, you could still have genuine friends and family and it was nowhere near as crowded as it is now since old neighborhoods have gotten bulldozed and replaced with multiple family apartment buildings. This city is a sanitized looking sham with no soul.

Its amazing how that reputation still exists to the average person. I live 12 hours north of NYC and go every 6 months on average. I'm a 39 year old tall Caucasian, but I feel incredibly safe there. I've walked the streets of Bed Stuy, Ozone Park, Washington Heights all at 3am, etc and never felt unsafe once. @@destinilund4771 NYC once had a strong middle class presence. You could afford to live there making a working class salary. Entire generations of families knew nothing but city life and they were called city hicks. There also used to be a lot of manufacturing centered around Brooklyn. People moved to the city to start a new life with nothing in their pockets just by opening up a stand selling magazines or walking into a television studio pre 9/11. Maybe there is less crime today but it has become a city for elites and no opportunity for those who aren't highly educated with already money in their pockets. The upper middle class made up of doctors and lawyers can barely afford to live there.

This when my family moved. My early teenage years and my family moved to New Hampshire after my father was laid off. Looking back I am glad we did. Once you got into JR High and then High School there was less shelter because you left your neighborhood. By the eras standards I was no tough guy and I got to finish growing up without looking over my shoulder at school or walking somewhere. The kids in NH could;d be pretty scrappy but I had no issues there. I knew I wasn’t going to get thrown down a flight of stairs or mugged in the bathroom. NYC will never meet that limit again. Y’all saying it’s changing cause of the pandemic but it’s been nowhere near that and even when it was normal it was never dangerous

@@D_a_yyy #1 Nobody is praying it gets to that level. So relax Homie. #2 Ny will always be dangerous. Ny had too many elements to be a safe city. Also, most people in the city know that they don't even give you accurate crime numbers. So what ever is the murder toll for NYC, just understand that the real number is alot higher then you think. But we all have our own opinion.
