It takes about two watches to get into “comfort zone”, on a boat. By that meaning, I’m speaking of switches on dash and other peculiarities of specific vessels. In broader terms.. almost all of the “issues” I’ve ever had in my career where I was in a “comfort zone”. One of the keys to this job is NEVER let your guard down. Managing the stresses of that and being consistent are huge. I purposely try to look confident and relaxed, to instill that in my crew, even when I feel stressed. That can come over to a younger wheelman as “comfortable”. Don’t ever get comfortable. 👍🏻 That’s just my opinion, and what works for me.
