I live in the Adirondacks, in fact about 20 miles south of lake Durant. I've camped 100's of times (primitave) but never took an airplane into the wilderness. Those of us who live here can't afford such luxury. However your canoe ride did get me excited for camping in the upcoming season. Enjoy the wilderness. It's great for the soul.
I've passed by Payne's a number of times, but thought they just did sightseeing flights--had no idea they did fly-in camping. I'm definitely doing this!
Great Tom Payne is very funny in a quiet way. Its a good opportunity in our back yard. can plunge. I was in the area for 12 days and one night temps dropped to +15 which I was not ready for. ENJOY =Cosmo
You are one of my favorite channels and this video was fantastic. I feel like we are kindred spirits and you just spent 5 days in the kind of place I love. I usually do BWCA annually and I fish while I'm there. It's not fly-in, but it's canoe/boat in with a few portages and mostly just you (and whoever you bring with you) and the wildlife. It is what I've been doing since I was a child. Anyway, I want to thank you for getting my exploring motor running again and now I have to plan my next trip.
Cosmo, I am still working and close to the finish line. I retired from the Army back in 2006, but had to continue working as a civilian. Planning is a great idea, motivation to keep me in shape. I watch you and enjoy your hard work videography. It is much appreciated. You really produce some good stuff, beautiful scenery, wisdom of the road along with your good personal take on camping. The fall is so beautiful :) Inlet a tiny lil almost not a town! Grew up going to the adirondacks every summer staying at rockypoint! We kids loved the seaplanes! We learned so much in the mountains! It was a blast! Safe flying!
My husband and I did this exact same trip 4 years ago. Best camping trip we've ever taken! We didn't see another human for 5 days! And we also left in the rain. Btw...it was great to meet you this past weekend in the MRP. Hope your trip to the ADK was all you hoped for!

Just the other day, I was admonishing myself for spending too much time planning the future - it does give me hope and keeps me going in a tough family caretaker situation. Great video! I live in the Saratoga area and I'm always spending time in the Southern ADKs bc its so close but I've been meaning to adventure north more and get into the woods instead of weekends in Lake Placid haha

You're living the dream buddy and I'm glad for you.. you remind me of somebody that I know who's no longer around and like you he went full-force for what he enjoyed.. my question for you is how did the tent work out ? MSR equipment is top notch.. I go hiking with there snow shoes. I have another question for you in your video when you were out camping in Montauk you said you learn to go eat where all the landscape eat I'm curious where is that . I was fortunate enough to grow up there as a child. Places change the lot I haven't been back in a long time. My dad worked at camp Hero which back then was the Montauk Air Force Station. I remember the last time I was there there was a breakfast place in the circle but I can't remember the name..
Thanks JR I visited Camp Hero on Bicycle while in the East End I forget the town. After spending $20 for 2 eggs and toast I asked a landscaper and the told me about delis that cater to the working people (like me). I got an egg sandwich for $4 with a slice of cheese! If your in New York city and you need to pee.Ask an expert - a homeless person and they will tell you all the places you can pee without buying anything like Whole foods etc. Life is easy when you can spot an expert for advice.

@@CosmoWeems Not knowing how deeply you have looked at the Garmin, you can get a subscription for as long or little as you like.... 1 month, a year.... I get the monthly and just suspend it for the time I won't be out and about.... that way you avoid the dreaded "connect fee".

Great adventure! Thanks for confirming these experiences are available, if we seek them out, plan, and go for it! Love the ADK’s; just spent some time at Lake Durant in our Vistabule. Fly in camping is now on bucket list. (Please don’t climb Everest; those steps would be too difficult to follow!)
Excellent Ron looks like you have a good pla laid out. Ya many places to go on any budget. Keeping thin and workin out physically makes many wonderful experiences possible. Watching this a year later again. My buddies and myself have been exploring some deep untraveled old trails in the southern/mid Adirondacks lately. One last fall camp coming soon
Cosmo, are you a fisherman by any chance? The lakes you are exploring are making me uneasy because I want to see you casting for northern pike or bass or walleyes or whatever is bitting in the lakes. When I was in my 20s, I visited the Finger Lakes area in New York and enjoyed fishing on the weekends when I wasn't teaching at the IBM Endicott ed center. I also was station at Fort Mommonth, NJ back in 67 68 and 69 as an electronics instructor while serving in the Army.

Taking the Oru was the original plan and it would have fit in the plane. But they provided a canoe so I opted to use that space in the car for other gear. All options are always on the table to choose from. Gear logistics is the hardest part of the trip. =Cosmo
