New York Fashion Week Fall 2022 Roast (julia fox is a model now?)

New York Fashion Week has come and gone again, but this season a slimmed-down schedule once again was in order. Titans like Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Coach all presented collection, but the younger names are the ones that really kept the boat moving. From Elena Valez, to Saint Sintra to Dion Lee and LaQuan Smith, there was so much to discuss! And with models like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and even 'UNCUT GHEMS" muse Julia Fox there was fodder for pop-cultural moments to arise as well!

I interned at Gabriela Hearst this market week, the black and white floral was based off a drawing Hearst’s daughter drew. Also she drew inspiration from Austin Hearst’s great grandmother in a picture where she was wearing a floral dress.

Honestly with these analysis’ of clothing vids I find myself in awe of how you’re able to describe clothes and brands so well, so many details I wouldn’t have even thought about, very cool to hear. Also dion lee ngl the best collection of the vid just for that blood red corset with the hooded dress,,,chefs kiss and I don’t even like hoods lmao.

I actually love those Peter Do sweaters/capes. I think they’re very cool, unique and wearable. If I had the funds, I’d go for those in a heartbeat. I have to admit that although I love haute couture, I rarely see anything I can imagine wearing myself.

After hearing your brilliant and culturally sensitive commentary on Gabriela Hearst's work, if my cousin ever comes out with another collection of his own, I'd love to hear your take. Not sure I'm in on the bag harnest. I rather have the belt. I think it would be difficult for them to be comfortable if they don't fall lower then your waist to take things out. And if you don't want to hold a bag. Just get a cross body. In addition I see the harnest as much more difficult to take off and just search stuff in it directly in front of you. Also do you really want to carry the weight of things on you although I guess you could treat it like a coat and put it on the chair. Even with that it would have to fall bellow the waist like big pockets because taking stuff out and bending your arms for any pocket like item above the waist is just not as comfortable as something that just falls where your arms end

Hi Luke. It's likely this use of 'maidenhood' is meant to be synonymous w/ a girl's virginity & their oath to remain chaste until married. While I don't think the show is promoting this mindset, when you say something goes back to 'womanhood,' I think 'chastity' is more apt. Chastity being labor (work) because a desire for intimacy is very present within these sexy people. Again, not necessarily something being promoted... it just seems very tongue in cheek.

I adore haute la mode and this is NOT criticism and more a commentary on how things can be perceived in one context and are given a "pass" but other times and another context could be are villainized. "and the model carried a newborn baby swaddled in fabric on one arm which looked to the notion of motherhood one more time." for the Valez end of show. That's one interpretation. Another would be that a baby (especially a child of color) is being treated as an accessory. Just saying.

I'm from Northern Ireland, which has a population of just under 2 million, so I can relate to an extent. You can find some books about my 'culture,' but in reality they're almost all written by outsiders and about conflict and our difficult political history, portraying things as a warzone and not much else. Actual art, music, history beyond conflict and cultural references are hard to find in print.
@chuchulaputa3280
@chuchulaputa3280 2 года назад
Lol it’s not your small population. It’s colonial rule and the commitment to erasing indigenous identities that you don’t know much about Uruguay. I am from El Salvador and our national dress was banned in the 1920s punishable by death. If you have indigenous blood commit to knowing the truth and their hidden voices. Know where you are from and you’ve won half the battle.

I found an archive of hand painted French fashion plates and pages from La' Ideal Parisian, from the 1920's. It's about 61 images, I've scanned on high resolution. I've given copies to Kevin at FIDM, Steven Porterfield, the Fashion department at UNT and to the costume mistress for Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. The shows you go into more detail vs not…do you talk more about what you find more interesting, what you think your audience wants, or maybe it’s based off who you can find more info about? Also, you seem to have some insight about some designers and their processes over others it would be cool to know more about that. Luke, I don't know of you're going to see this, but I absolutely adore the way you always analyze Gabriela Hearst's work. In my opinion (from a fellow Uruguayan), she truly represents our culture on her collections, she takes the simplicity of it and creates beautiful pieces. On regards to the dress and coat with flowers, I would have to find a picture of them and inspect it, but in case you're wondering, the National flower of Uruguay (as well as Argentina's) is the Erythrina crista-galli (or Ceibo in Spanish), it should be on those pieces imo
