SURPRISE! Okay so, apparently I had been misinterpreting this song for actual years ever since first hearing it in high school.
I thought this was a love song, and not just that -- it became one of my absolute favorite love songs, if not THE favorite. Because like, don't these lyrics beautifully capture what falling in love should be like? Well turns out I was wrong this whole time. The context of the song was actually someone whom was reflecting on how things were going so well in their life. I am, admittedly, kinda sad to learn that. But I'm singing it as a love song anyway.
Oh and it's a song from a Broadway musical! Well, from two musicals technically. So this song was originally written by the legendary composers John Kander & Fred Ebb for a musical titled "Flora The Red Menance", which was Liza Minelli's Broadway debut. However, in 2023 the song was repurposed to be used in the Broadway musical "New York, New York", also by John Kander & Fred Ebb, where it was sung by Colton Ryan.
Anyway, this was just something I threw together really quickly today when there was some spare time before a gig and inspiration struck. I hope you all enjoy it!
