New York City's 7 Train was built in a relatively unoccupied area of Queens. But it didn't stay that way for long, and today people from all around the world live, work, and play along its right-of-way. Now Kalkidan and I are getting to know the area through the best means possible: Food!

"Bling bling" - words of wisdom from Kalkidan! A shame Rincon Criollo closed, however they have another location in South Huntington on Long Island! As a language buff, the huge number of languages spoken in NYC, let alone Queens, really is incredible! Really shows that NYC is truly the international city! To me, learning another language is to have another perspective, another window from which to look at the world! Also a cool fact that besides the languages and the 1964 NY World's Fair, another reason why it's called the International Express is because the UN General Assembly used to be at Flushing Meadows! At what's now the Queens Museum. They'd run shuttle buses from Flushing-Meadows to Lake Success in Nassau County to the temporary UN headquarters as well!

I love how while Caleb excitedly explains all the different foods Kalkidan is just sitting there like 😒

So before it closed, Rincon Criollo was at that location on Junction Blvd since 1976! The first Rincon Criollo restaurant opened in the early 1950s in the Santiago de Las Vegas part of Havana. It was created by Jesus Rene Acosta and Rodobaldo Acosta who became orphans in 1942 and stuck together trying to make ends meet, selling fruits, vegetables, bread, and cheese. When they had enough money, they had the opportunity to purchase a restaurant. They named it Rincon Criollo after a 1950 Cuban musical movie starring Blanquita Amaro and singer Celia Cruz. Because of growing demand, they expanded it to sit 2,000! Many famous celebs, baseball players, and dignitaries visited the restaurant. When they had to give up their restaurant to the Cuban government in favor of just working at the kitchen in 1962, they chose to leave for the US. When they made it to this part of Queens in the late 1960s, it was largely a Cuban community. When an Italian restaurant was closing, a Cuban owner of a butcher shop told the Acosta brothers to reopen Rincon Criollo there in 1976! Different Mets stars frequented the Queens location, as well as Celia Cruz and Jon Secada! They expanded to Huntington Station/South Huntington in 2015. They chose to close the one in Queens in Summer 2023 because that location just never fully recovered from the pandemic, opting to relocate to New Hyde Park in 2024.

Caleb actually doing his research now?! Engagement has changed you man, literally unwatchable (But seriously, congrats to you both!) I'm not really upset about the Wendy's tbh, as far as major fast food burger chains go it's probably the best quality one imo All the birria I've run into in California's been beef, but that's also been from places riding the trend, not big city hole in the walls who've been serving it up forever to folks wanting a taste of home. Lamb birria sounds amazing - never had the chance to try goat at all.

6:49 Imma be a little biased here, but the Philippines has the best empanadas out of all the different cuisines. Little Manila NYC is along the 7 train as well I think.

Can wait for this video! The fact that all you have to do to be totally immersed in dozens of other languages is take a subway ride has always been one of my favorite things about NYC!

Love to see some Queens representation!! It's such an underrated borough of NYC. I live in Long Island City and find myself on the 7 train often (although the M, and temporarily the F, is my daily commute to work). The 7 is a very interesting train not only because it is elevated for most of its route, but it's also one of the only NYC Subway lines to operate peak direction express service, since most of it's line is served by 3 tracks (instead of the usual 4) so AM trains to Manhattan run express and PM trains from Manhattan run express.

Very well made video! It's nice how each of these trips introduce us to the vast local cultures of the neighborhoods surrounding these transit lines, as they help bring countless communities together.

Next time you come to Jackson Heights on a visit to NYC, try some momos from the Tibetan and Nepalese joints in the area. They are delicious and all over the 74th St. station on the 7/Roosevelt Ave. on the E/F/M/R.

Congratulations! By chance, the day of your engagement, I tried scrambled eggs with injera! 08:23 if you don't mind avocado in your jianbing, I recommend Corgi Jianbing in LIC. Avocado was a wonderful texture contrast with the bing and pork floss

The train operator in me always geeks out when I see the 7 line featured. Thanks to CBTC system which the 7 line utilizes, trains are able to run at closer headways at peak times. Great video as always and safe travels.

I love the 7! Ride it every time when I visit NYC! It was the 1964 World's Fair that made the 7 has 11 car trains. The 7 was using R36, while R33S single cars were added on each train. No A/C was on R33S.

7 train and 6 train is very good ,it is the best subway lines but the 7 train has more frequent service btw not all R188 trains are real R188 trains ,you did not do your research, most of the R142A trains have been converted to R188 trains ,but you can tell between real R188 and fake R188 by looking at the train model on the stickers located on each Carriages ,and the ones with the yellow stickers at the front of the train
