right now 2018. where i live every park has people playing soccer. it's amazing. in my neighborhood the most popular sport has to be soccer and i live in Brooklyn ny. right now is january 2018 and i went to the park and people are playing soccer. at least 40 people. 5 years ago nobody played outside in the winter. so soccer has grown so much here in NYC.
How come they dont show up for nyc city games then. Everytime i see them on tv that stadium is kinda empty. I want to see them attend. I want to see mls grow? Is it changing now over there nyc. Are people going to the games more
Soccer is growing in the US. But I've just learned it completely and have only been to one match. Going to that match is a lot more exciting than watching it on the tv and is too confusing hearing it on the radio
Really hoping that soccer catches on in North America and more and more people start supporting their local teams. In my home country, Finland, football/soccer is even smaller, but I just love going to cheer for my local team. Sure, I still have other favorite teams abroad, but it's great to have your "own" team to support as well.
it's not the world's greatest city . those buildings aren't very different from the ones in eastern europe...soviet style, grey and boring...except they're much bigger . new york city is overrated
Andy Lauder oy. The Art Deco style of the Chrysler Building, the Empire State, the Woolworth Tower (the world's first skyscraper), the New York Life building with the gold roof, the awesome new Bank of Amerca tower, Frank Gehry-designed high rises....... nothing like blocky Soviet architecture.
I lived there.. Great architecture, shit nightlife, good for playing football. London's got more about it though than NY even though now they are both bloated and overpriced these days.
living in new york, everything theyre saying is true. The sport is growing very quickly. I recently moved to the U.S from Europe and i thought it would be easy. But its very hard!
I'm an American. 4th gen Swede/Irish/Englishman/Spaniard/GermanAs soon as I saw my first game, I was four, I was a football/Soccer/Futbol fan. It was an Arsenal game and my older brother was an Arsenal supporter. I fell in love with the game and Arsenal the moment I laid eyes on the pair. Some American fans are just as passionate as European fans.
Love ny as a european, its a good thing football is getting more and more popular in the us. Lots of Ajax fans in nu too. In central park pretty much every day some (native) dutchy's play football.
the new dc united stadium is getting built in the Buzzard Point area in the central of DC, it will be opened for the 2016 season. The stadium will be done in 2015 probably.
That fact that there are differing opinions as to the epicenter speaks to the growth of the sport. However, I grew up playing streetball in NYC since 1980's brother. Peace out
What I mean is that the popularity of the MLS and the U.S. national team is fairly new. Americans have been watching European football for a long time.
I'm English and i live in NYC and u personally think that European football is still a lot better, but I think that the enthusiasm that the Americans have towards football and becoming better at it is huge.
I also want it to be respected considering that it is the greatest sport in the world. Just because we call it something different doesn't mean we don't respect it. As a matter of fact many Americans who are fans of the sport actually call it "football".
fuck i love soccer like he said in the video just bring a soccer ball and no matter if you can't speak the same language it just unites people. its so beautiful :')
@MrBh17 actually it is in the United States. Building a big stadium allows people to actually go to football matches and experience the game. Bigger stadiums allow more people to get familiar with the game, that way football becomes more and more popular.
Football is constantly growing in the States. There's so much talk about the LA Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls, but when you look at the heart of US Football, the major growth of the game is in the Northwest. Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps, San Jose Earthquakes, and Seattle Sounders. NYRB isn't even in New York, so there's currently no football club playing professionally in NY. Cosmos won't begin play until this fall. Support for MLS is in WA, OR, and BC...not NY or LA.
I'm telling you the USA will be a football power house in 20 years. The country is big and IWW have so many cultures that bring the love of football from everywhere. Watch USA will win a World Cup in least than 40 years.
For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know of as “Football”.
I only learned the basic rules of the game a couple months ago. I've never watched a full match. I follow so many sports avidly (soccer, rugby, American football, hockey, basketball) it's hard to find time for new sports. Definitely looks fun. I'll sit down and watch a couple games some time soon. I just don't see myself following following the AFL. Especially since they don't show it here in the US. It's hard enough finding SuperRugby matches online.
The reason I can't stand people that comment like you is the fact that if the U.S. shows any sign of improving in the sport it's as if you get nervous about it and try to down-play what they are doing.
Who gives a fuck what it is called in America? This video just shows how it is growing in a country that never really gave it a shot, because they have SO MANY other sports there. No matter what anyone calls it, it is still the same sport that we all know and love, and we should be welcoming other people into this sport instead of criticizing people about what they call it.
What those people are talking about is just 100% commercial football. I'd never want to see a game that is just scheduled to have your stadium full. Football isn't a product.
The guy says they have the best stadiums but from what I've seen they hardly ever get sold out, Seattle sounders and Portland timbers have good fans though
Between the last rankings and the current rankings, England only played 1 match which was a draw against Brazil yet we dropped 9 rankings. We all know that Brazil are a good team but they were ranked 19th at the time (before they won the confed cup) so we dropped a lot of places at the time. You can't always trust the rankings. USA on the other hand had lots of WC qualifiers and the gold cup so it's not a surprise that they have more points. So I think England are still pretty far ahead.
"Soccer" will never be as big in America than over here because of the pure fact of not supporting local teams. Just as your man said at around 1:25 "You have the strong supporters who wake up and support there team in the bars, whether its Arsenal or Utd or their fav european club". Most states in America already have their own team for fuck sake. The reason "soccer" is so big over here in England is because most people support their local team and where there from. They need that in America.
Why are some of the people in this comments section so ignorant? We get it. It's called football. Can't you guys just accept the fact that we call it something different? Is it that hard?
I'm from England but unfortunately I have never visited the US! But I think you lot are doing a really good job of Soccer there! The MLS is improving all the time and the National Team are In my opinion a very decent side, there just as good or better than England at the moment :O. But if you want to reach good levels you got to call it "Football" and change field to "Pitch" and cleats to "Boots" then your doing Well :P Good Luck USA
As much as I want the MLS to grow, I can't see it happening with the clubs' attitudes to transfers. Yes, buying these big names helps in the short-term, but in 5 years, they'll have retired and you're back to square one. If you can attract or bring through younger players who want to grow and develop with the league, it will be of more benefit imo.
Max MacGregor That's sort of my point; the way of doing things currently is in no way good for the MLS. The sooner it can shed the image of being football's retirement home, the better.
I am not from US. But belive me. The last 6 years and specially the last 2 years since the World Cup football in America grew a lot. Even MLS is transmitted acrose the ocean in Europe. We are hearing about itand for a lot of americans that i met is like a fashion, like the new cool trend. 10 years ago americans rarely spoke about football. And now you have it on TV and it is like a battle between the conservative old people and the young ones of soccer becoming more popular than the local sports. And this Copa America came like a glove at the exactly right time to boost the sport even further in the US. 16 years ago you did not give a f..k about loosing at soccer but now it is a national drama when the team USA is loosing. The next step is for the all the clubs in US to establish a die hard fan base and to exapand to mutliple leagues so you can have a big player pool of your own. That is when the sport will be Nr. 1
football in europe , south america and almost everywhere else is a culture ! In the U.S. on the other hand is a "recreational sport". Until they make the national league there good enough to have die hard fans , and fans that transmit their love for a specific football club to their kids , the football there will not grow big enough and the fans there wil not be passionate enough to able to be compared to other countries that are already football countries !
i would think the epicenter of football would be somewhere in the southwest, the hispanic culture has a big impact on soccer in america, most hispanic kids grow up being football fans and that has really caught on for other races ethnicities, im talking about more than fans but actual street ball, playing like in europe or latin america, africa, asia
While there are people in the U.S. who are oblivious to the sport, it is ignorant to then classify all Americans as being oblivious to the sport. It would be like me saying that all Italians are racist because of the incidents that have happened at football games in Italy. All this video did was show that the United States is starting to care more about the sport. You have to realize that the sport is fairly new to the United States.
Though I agree with all the problems that you have pointed out, I think that weak national team is an exaggeration. We have good players so I can't fathom some of the performances they put in when they play for the national team. It really depends on form.
Where they are getting their money from is the question. The answer to this is that they are a partnered channel. A channel viewed around the world. This means they get revenue for every video they upload. More revenue the more views and subscribers they get. They will of got the most money from KSI's videos.
Hey guys, how are you? I'm here 10 years later but giving a shot. Im from Brazil and traveling to NY in march. I was wondering where the best public park to play soccer in the city at any time of the day. Is there any? Any tips for a foreigner who wants to play just for fun on a couple of days in NY?
