It's easy to see the stark difference between the rich and poor in these photos. On one hand, there are women in lovely stylish dresses and men in smart suits and ties. On the other hand you see people delivering papers, selling pretzels or fruit, playing music, etc., and wearing raggedy clothing. There's one photo showing kids playing in a gutter next to a dead horse. Many of these people were elderly and since there were no benefits for the elderly back then, people either worked until they dropped or went to a poor house.

America was never a socialist country, it is a tried and true failure everywhere it’s tried. Take a look at Venezuela right now. Used to be a beautiful productive country; since enuf were stupid enuf to vote for socialists, they literally have no food, forget about medicine. I wish all the socialists would all go somewhere and live together. Maybe then they’d understand that socialism, communism and dictatorships DO NOT WORK.

These are magnificent photos. The colorization is remarkable and really brings them to life. Many of the dates in the descriptions were clearly pulled out of your a**, however. If one knows anything about the history of Victorian and Edwardian fashions, they'd find many of these are off by twenty years or more.

This is proof that life is too short and that time has accelerated much too quickly since the 60's. Many of the photos was in my grandmothers time and look at us now. Heck even in my time, we no longer live in the same life line. A much different world. It's like we were all put in a vortex and spit out in a different time and space. Heck I'm only 61 and I lived with the milkman coming to the door - party line phones we had to dial, with many phone numbers with words you spelled out instead of numbers to dial. We were the first family to have a coloured TV which also had a dial and I was the remote control. Heck I could go on! I love seeing the old photos! For those thinking the photo of the husband and wife switching clothing was strange - it was intended to be funny. It was mocking the fact that women wanted a voice, that they too could make the same decisions their husbands made. The photo was probably taken for a cabinet card to be shared for fun.
