I remember when it first opened in 2009. I rode it on the opening day. It only went from tukiwila station to westlake. It expanded quickly. soon it’s going to Bellevue/Redmond, Federal Way and Lynwood before 2025.
Love the lightrail! It’s fast, easy and convenient. That’s all I use when I go to Seattle. Can’t wait until the build the line to Bellevue. Love the vid!
The buttons are there for when you're running down the stairs and just catching it and the doors are about to close. they will prevent the rail from going and open the doors for you. :)
Ah no. Light rail operators have full authority whether to open, close or enable doors to open via passenger's hand. If doors open it's only because the operator was being nice and enabled door for you from cab. @pauld2810 has it correct.
I personally rode this line all the way from Angle Lake to Northgate, and everything was clean, efficient, and smooth. The one thing that bugs me is that there is literally no trash cans. You can only see the trash cans at the entrance/exit of the station, so some people just... throw the trash on the floor sometimes.
The buttons are there for the ends of the line, when the driver isn't there to open the doors, but you want to get in and wait for the trip to begin. (I guess there are buttons on the inside in case you change your mind.)
Seattle is headed in the right direction, but honestly, they have much work to be done, the rail has so many underserved and is useless to the majority of residents being that it the system has very poor coverage. Having said all that, Seattle is perhaps the city on the west coast that could turn from a car-centric mayhem to being a place were a car isn't necessary.
The train system will never have the coverage that a bus system has, but building it out takes time. It makes perfect sense that the first stations ran from downtown to the airport, not because a lot of people live there, but because those places have logistical importance and people who go there tend to not take their cars. What's essential at this point is that we continue to utilize the train system when we can (and PAY for our rides) so that the system can generate revenue to build expansions.
@@GnomeChomsky9999 Chicago has space to grow because it’s flat, where Seattle is condensed between 2 bodies of water & the Cascades. Chicago’s light rail wish it was as clean as the LINK. Plus check back in 2024 when the extensions are complete.
@@GnomeChomsky9999Seattle could’ve had a full-blown metro system that was planned in the 1960s, but they turned it down. So it was built in Atlanta instead.
You are quite the tourism guide. You should be paid by the Chamber of Commerce for promoting the city while pointing out its challenges. People receive a realistic view. You haven’t mentioned the arts: Benaroya Hall, The Fifth Avenue Theater, Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Paramount… there’s a lot to do and see! Thank you so much for a wonderful job!!!
Some of yall have no idea how amazing it felt going from LA to Seattle and learning you can take a train from the airport. No "People Mover", no "Flyaway" bus that takes you 2 hours to the light rail you needed to go to get to Santa Monica or Long Beach, no 1 hour walk to take the nearest bus, no expensive ubers. Just pay a few bucks and you can get off at Westlake, CID, UDistrict, or Northgate. I felt like a caveman enlightened by alien technology
@@minecraftbinemraft2901compared to where? Vancouver BC & Miami are the only places I can think of that have a cleaner rail & rail stations. It’s actually kinda clean for a major city.
@@EphemeralProductions The buses were moved to street level. Only Link line 1 runs through the tunnel now, with plans to also run line 2 in it when it opens. A second transit tunnel is also planned to accommodate a third line.
As much as I love Seattle….SkyTrain has the best Public Transit in the PNW…arguably on the entire West Coast. Although BART in the Bay Area might have a good argument.
Good Monday Afternoon My Friend IAM Hoping That You Are Having A Magical Day The City's And States Should Honor You With A Key Because Of Your Tourism Experiences Thank You So Much For Sharing Another Great Story About Seattle Washington Much Blessings And Love Always Ms British Gray From Tampa Florida 😊 9:52
its a shame it just goes from A to B, they should expand like portland to the south which spans the entire metro area with multi lines, and San Fransisco with the same multi lines. L.A. has a transit system that is a joke (hahaha)
It sounds like the Washington state train station was upgraded the brand new weaves and inside was clean and fresh up. Then point out the places spot there. Touch screen on this celling of the subway. Wow! First time the west coast of Seattle Washington state has been encouraged to extemporaneously show and transportation to coming on again.
@actionkid When a train is waiting at the start of the route (at least at northgate), it can sit there from a few minutes up to 10 minutes. They keep the doors closed and if you want to get in or out before it departs, you press the button.
Several years ago I arrived at Sea-Tac Airport to find out that I had misplaced my driver's license and thus could not rent the car I had reserved. Fortunately I was able to find an affordable motel room near the airport, and I was able to use their shuttle to get to the Airport station for the Light Rail. I was able to do most of what I had planned on the trip without a car, including a trip downtown, thanks to the Light Rail! And now they're extending it north to Lynnwood and, later, Everett. (I found my license once I got home after the trip.)
The buttons on the door when they get to Angle lake station when the trains sit idle the passenger can open a certain door on all light rail when the train is moving it is done by the train operator
I've spent a lot of time at the International District Station, as it was the final bus stop from the Eastside to the stadiums back when trains and busses shared the tunnel.
que alegría saber que existe ese tren, viajaré por primera vez a SEA y tengo que llegar a Seattle Convention Center, este tren me deja en Westlake y camino 🤩🫶😎
