Yeah, used to do this with a stick and flies and also worms. We didn't have any flies on hand and couldn't be bothered grunting up a worm. The technique your describing works best with a heavily weighted nymph first then a foot and a half leader going from the bend in the heavy nymph to a light pheasant tail or similar. That way it gets the heavy nymph bouncing with the lighter one flailing around. Hard to keep the float going slow, that's why we used a small stick instead of a plastic bobber float. Also used to catch kingfish using a similar method. Tennis ball half filled with water with a small slimy jack underneath. That way we could turf the weighted tennis ball and live bait out past the breakers then wait for a kingy to smash it. Cheer!!!

It's how movies are made mate. It's not always as simple as carrying a camera and pointing it. Sometimes we re shoot some scenes ( called a pick up ) sometimes we blend 2 or 3 hunts together to make it look like 1 hunt. Sometimes 3 days are filmed and condensed to make it look like 1 day. Hence the reason I ask people to pitch in on Patreon. To make a good episode takes many hours, not only on the hill, but sitting in front of a screen as well. Think of the 4wd segment in here. How long it took to get the multiple camera angles with multiple cameras. The stopping and starting and reversing and getting another take.... It's very very time consuming and most people have absolutely no idea. Hence the occasional mistake where charlie was carrying the gun while I carried his bow. Cheers
