I mean, let's be honest: Canadians are the next closest thing to Americans. There are some differences, but it's mostly little stuff (like preferred temperature scale and overuse of the word "sorry"). There are more differences between the governments of our two countries, than between the peoples. So of course we get along tolerably well most of the time. (We're even allowed to poke fun at one another, and nobody gets too upset, usually.) In some ways Canadians are more similar to Americans than they are to Brits, and the only people who don't get along with the Brits are communists, terrorists, Argentine nationalists, and food critics.

just to expand on what your saying, the thing that a lot of people sadly don't realize is that media and news will report on the noteworthy stuff, and as humans we are usually drawn towards the negative stuff, meaning that what is seen is filtered. the regular stuff that happens isn't noteworthy, doesn't make news. some people don't realize this. so what's next to be filtered is the positives and the negatives, but because we are drawn to the negatives, the positives get pushed down to the bottom, unseen. now all of the news people see is just the negative news, and it sours their opinions. its disappointing.

These smartasses from Europe think we are just a bunch of fat and lazy slobs. First, you have to put it into context. The reason more people are obese is because we have to drive more places since it is a bigger country, less dense. Second, Americans work longer days than Europeans and have more kids on average, this means they don’t have time to make a nice quality healthy meal when their kids have activities all night. When you put it into context it doesn’t seem so bad.

Later in aisle 5, I helped a shorter woman with an item that was too high for her to reach. In the checkout aisle I talk to the clerk and we both remarked about how great it was that the weather was staying relatively cool in Miami for this time of year. I drove home I didn't get in an accident, and I wasn't robbed or shot. What shocks me is that this did not make the national news, nothing, zip. Proud US citizen here. 😉 "we stand on the shoulder's of the greats" is a motto I grew up with. Humbly admitting there are greats before us (no matter where they're from) and striving to take what they've accomplished and be all the better. Confidence can come across as arrogance. However, ignorance is part of the learning process. One has to admit you don't know everything (no one does). Yes I'm loud. I'm a professional rock musician/singer. 😆 The US is very generous. I say that humbly. There are stats out there that prove as a nation, we give a lot. As individuals, we are also generous. Good morning from the southmost tip of Texas, USA! I have live in 7 states, and the residents of each state have been very proud of their state. The same goes for the entire country. But I have found that citizens of other countries are equally as proud of their countries, regardless of size. As to our ignorance about other countries, I do have to admit, we are rather insular. But, folks from other countries have to remember, the USA basically has the scenery, and climate of the rest of the world combined, just inside our borders. The diversity of the USA makes for having little reason to travel to other countries, when we can never see all of our own country in one lifetime. Making generalizations about the character of all Americans, lumping them all together, is just downright foolishness. There may be some characteristics that exemplify Americans, like their friendliness, just as there are for every country. But, isn’t it a form of arrogance on others’ parts, to by so negative about a country that has supported the rest of the world in every major conflict since the early 20th Century? I am stepping off my soapbox now, folks. Thanks for letting me have my say. And just for fun, those of you who don’t know the reference to my soapbox, may want to do some research about the phrase.

I leave the AC on when I go out because 1) I have cats, 2) It can get up to 120F (48C) in the summer and that kind of heat could damage my belongings, and 3) It would take hours to bring the temperature down to a safe one if I let it get that hot inside. When the heat outside is below 100F (37C) I use evaporative coolers instead of AC to save on electricity. When I do run the AC I keep it set at 78F (25C) to save on electricity.

I’m a 21 year old Arkansan; when the video talked about ignorance due to the school systems refusing to teach it really hit home. Many schools in Arkansas in the past couple years have cut their curriculum in order to exclude racial relations. Words like institutionalized racism, color blind racism, etc. aren’t even allowed to be said in the classroom. After my rights over choices I can make about my own body were taken away (abortion made illegal) and the school system failing to teach history correctly I’ve become afraid of where my country is headed in the future.

Just an average American here. I've been to London, Edinburgh and throughout Greece. Heard the stereo types about the people in each place I visited and found the regular person in each place to be friendly and welcoming. I never felt looked down upon or judged. Most people were quite interested in you and where you were from. Just be respectful and you'll usually be welcomed just about anywhere. The statement about Americans being historically ignorant is very true in many ways unfortunately. We can do better. P.S. really enjoy your awesome family and videos. Very cool people.

The fact is most people are decent, normal and fine. There are the morons, criminals and such but that isn't the majority of the population. Even here in America where currently all everyone talks about is illegals, immigrants, etc we still don't hate them or such, i still hang out mostly in a latino community, great latino stores and food trucks, latino workers, and everyone is fine with each other. They are generalizing Americans a lot. In winter, if I leave my home, I put the thermostat somewhere around 60°F so I'm not letting thinhs freeze, but not wasting has and electricity. In summer, I usually leave it around 78° while I'm home and use ceiling fans to distribute the cool air. It's perfectly comfortable. If I leave, I may move the thermostat to 80° or if I'm away more than 24hrs, or it's especially hot (days over 100°F) I may leave it around 82°F so it's tolerable with fans, but not constantly on trying to cool the place to the 70's.

It is not that American's are ignorant, but it is a known fact that many of the school courses which were taught in schools just 60 years ago are no longer taught to students. When you have not been taught a subject you will not have the knowledge that goes with it.
@BrianWhitmarsh
@BrianWhitmarsh 3 месяца назад
I think the video did a good job explaining that the ignorance is systemic, which is partly what you are saying, too. There is virtually no civics or government classes, no critical thinking training, more shift towards classes that support making Americans corporate workers. A profit driven media owned by entertainment companies and lack of media literacy makes it all much worse. The "news" no longer tries to educate us. It drives us towards making money for the wealthiest people.

Here's a good example of American "arrogance" gone awry. Several years ago, I traveled to Europe to attend concerts for a band I had long been a fan of. I had many other fan/friends that were also attending the shows that I was going to and I had ridden to the show with several of them. On the first night, I was told by my friends that we had been invited to the after party at the hotel by the band. We arrived and it was VERY evident that we had not been invited or were welcome. I was stuck. We finally got out of there (whew) but stayed far longer than I would have liked, feeling the way I did. At the second show I attended with the same group of people? The tour manager came up to ME after the show and informed me that we were not welcome back at the hotel party. It was apparent that the pre-conceived notion that it was the "pushy American" who was the instigator in of all of it! I didn't even drive or know where the hotels were! Still, I was blamed. So much for American arrogance, eh?

One of the reasons I started watching this channel is because you are charitable toward Americans. I stayed because I genuinely love your sweet family. There are plenty of other channels who are quick to point out America's faults. I know because I've seen plenty of them. It doesn't feel great to constantly hear this. Something that baffles me is the problem others have with Americans thinking they're the best. Don't other people from other countries think their country is the best? It's like thinking your kids are the best. They are because they're YOURS. Yes, we may have been told America is the best, but it's the same as telling your kids they're doing great, they're the best, etc. I think this sparks pride (not arrogance) and makes us want to work hard to maintain what we have. Some might call this patriotism. I have friends who are school teachers. They have both told me they try to teach kids world history, etc., but the competition from TikTok, etc., makes it very hard. First world problem for sure. Thank you so much for this video. I enjoyed it.

The main reason to keep the air conditioner (AC) running when not at home, especially when living in the desert where temps can reach 120 degrees F, is the AC will use less energy to maintain the selected temperature. Where as, if you turn the AC while you are gone all day, the house will heat up. Then when you get home and turn the AC on, the AC will run for hours non-stop until the selected temperature is attained. When I worked and was gone 11-14 hours a day, I would turn the temperature up a few degrees (as the so-called "energy conservation people said to do"). When I came home and lowered the temperature, the AC would run non-stop for hours to cool the house down to the selected temperature. As another person explained to me, everything in the interior of the house will have a temperature related to the temperature selected on the AC. Turning the AC off or raising the temperature while you are away from your home allows everything inside the home to also heat up. So when you come home and turn the AC on to the lower setting, the AC has to cool EVERYTHING inside the house which causes it to run a lot longer and use far more electricity than if it was left alone.

Be it heating or AC most americans just try to keep the home at a set temp, me I am comfortable at 15 to 26 Celsius, and as to American's being dumb, it would be more accurate to say those from USA are more convinced they are right no matter what. And after having traveled to several other countries, those of us from the USA are more likely to just start a conversation with a total stranger than any other country I have been to. I actually had a South African Republic older gentleman call the police because I offered to change a flat tire for them. And took 3 hours to make the police understand that I was taught to be helpful to anyone who is having a problem. Once I showed I was from Texas, the police chief actual told the others to let me go, it was the truth that Texas is that kind of friendly.
