New Zealand Full License Driving Test - Jipcho Road, Sockburn

This is a video for reference of what you could expect during your full license practical driving test.
I passed the test and received no critical errors, however was advised to work on my gap selection again (as I was for my restricted test also.)
I’ll note that while my hazard calling is not the greatest, it seems enough to pass. My testing officer also gave a run through of the hazard-calling requirements before the test.
This test occurred at 11:15am on Friday, January 8th, at the Jipcho Road VTNZ in Sockburn, Christchurch :)

not really a hazard, if you cant speak while driving you shouldn't be allowed to drive with other passengers (what the full license test is for), its not to check whether you can spot all hazards, its to see if you can pay attention to the road while speaking

@bridget27
@bridget27 3 года назад
From what I understand, there is no parallel park in the full test, as this is just a requirement in the restricted test (if that’s what you mean!) I believe there was no highway driving as there was no appropriate highway nearby to drive on. This may vary per location however, and I’m not sure whether many locations actually have highway driving either

hazard calling is something I'm gonna get nervous about taking my full licence in the future cause you have to look from mirror to see whos behind you and you also tell the testing officer about everything what you see what are you about to do, but overall you dont have to do reverse parallel park stuff its just basic driving
@bridget27
@bridget27 3 года назад
Yep, I found that overall, the full test was much easier than the restricted because it’s shorter, and you skip the introductory “easy part.” (Including parallel park as you said.) I didn’t learn how to call hazards until about two weeks before the test, so it doesn’t take too much effort to get it to a passable level! Because you’re checking mirrors anyway, the additional step of saying what you see, and what you’re doing about it, isn’t too hard to get into the habit of doing :)

I only learned to call out the hazards the night before my test lol whoops. I’d been on my restricted for 5 years but still found it frustrating having to actually say it all out loud. The test was easy and the testing officer just said thank you, or as he put it politely telling me to shut up when he had heard enough. No errors and an “excellent pass” so glad it’s all over!

Informative thank you so much bridget for posting, at 9:52 at give way you didn't stop, you think instructor will notice something like that?
@bridget27
@bridget27 2 года назад
Because you do not have to stop at a give way sign, you won’t be penalised for not stopping (unlike if it were a stop sign). Because I slowed down, and the testing officer could very obviously see I was checking for traffic (which there was none,) there were no issues :)

Thank you for this video! Did your driving instructor say anything about parked cars being a hazard? That is all my driving instructor focuses on for hazards and it is very annoying. :)
@bridget27
@bridget27 3 года назад
Before the test began, he explained that while parked cars weren’t hazards in themselves, if there is a possibility they may move into your path (i.e. you can see doors opening, brake lights on or indicating, people getting in and out etc,) you should then call them as a hazard. However, this may vary per testing officer - to be safe, it may be worthwhile to call them anyway, especially if your instructor says so!

@derekw.5108
@derekw.5108 2 года назад
This test occurred at 08:30am on Tuesday, September 28th, at the Jipcho Road VTNZ in Sockburn, Christchurch. The route was very different from that of Bridget’s and took me around 24 minutes. VTNZ -[L]--> Parkhouse Rd -[R]--> Treffers Rd --[R]--> Sonter Rd --[R]--> Hayton Rd --[straight]--> Hayton/Symes Rd --[R]-then-[L]--> Main South Rd --[R]--> Hanworth Ave (dead-end U-turn) --[L]--> Main South Rd --[R]--> Hayton/Symes Rd --[R]--> Symes Rd --[R]--> Vickerys Rd --[L]--> Pilkington Way --[R]--> Hayton Rd --[L]--> Parkhouse Rd --[L]--> VTNZ IMPORTANT REMINDER: 1. The online booking system was still close on September 28th. Stop waiting! Go to VTNZ in person and book your test there! The earliest test offered to me was scheduled only 3 days later. 2. In order to make a right turn from Parkhouse road to Treffers road, you need to change from left to right lane on Parkhouse road in advance! The lane-changing maneuver must be carried out almost immediately after the previous left turn (from VTNZ carpark to Parkhouse road), because these two intersections (VTNZ/Parkhouse & Parkhouse/Treffers) are extremely close! BE VERY CAREFUL! Rear vehicle may instantly speed up rapidly to force you to withdraw the maneuver, stopping you from getting in front of it. Due to a reckless driver, I got a critical error for not checking right at the beginning of test! Since impeding traffic is not a critical error, you’d better slow down and wait for larger gap that is about 2-3 seconds more than your judgement of safe distance! 3. MAKE SURE to say “no hazard” in a direction (front/rear/left/right) if there’s no hazard in that direction! Otherwise, the testing officer would just assume that you didn’t check that direction! UNTIL the testing officer says “thank you”, keep calling out hazards even if the situation (like a car behind you) hasn't changed, which happen when you come to a complete stop at a roundabout or intersection.

@bridget27
@bridget27 3 года назад
I believe you need to check all three mirrors every 5-8 seconds, rather than just the rear one. While I didn’t have a stop sign on my route, I think it’s that you must stop BEFORE the line, wait three seconds, and if it is clear, you are then allowed to crawl out if you can’t see traffic :)

You can stop after the line if you can't see what's coming. The written rule is that you stop where you can see what's coming if that differs from the line, but usually the line will mark where that is. The shape of your car, parked cars near the intersection or vegetation that has grown up since the line was painted can change this of course. When I did my restricted I almost did a rolling stop but caught myself in the nick of time and stopped fully. When I admitted that to the testing officer he asked what the rules were for stop signs and I quoted that (stop where you can see what's coming) and he said I was one of only 2 people he can recall who actually got that right when asked. I ended up passing it, but definitely wouldn't have if I hadn't caught myself since rolling stop is an immediate fail error.
