The Māori king in New Zealand - Kiingi Tuheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII - has died at the age of 69.
The Kiingitanga, or Māori king movement, announced the news on social media on Friday morning local time.
Spokesman Rahui Papa said the king had been in hospital recovering from heart surgery, just days after celebrating the 18th anniversary of his coronation.
He died peacefully surrounded by his wife and three children.

How can you steal from a doctor that is trying to save the life of a member of your family?????...... As hospital staff tried to save the life of a 2-year-old boy run over in a Rotorua driveway, a family member swiped a doctor's two phones and a bank card and went on a spending spree. @@whetuification Was he teh hori king? The king of such horis......... News from the Rotorua Daily Post: "Child, 2, dies after Rotorua driveway accident, family member steals from doctor trying to save child's life." As hospital staff tried to save the life of a 2-year-old boy run over in a Rotorua driveway, a family member swiped a doctor's two phones and a bank card and went on a spending spree. The child died a short time later but Melissa Herewini (A MAORI) had already taken the bank card to four stores in Rotorua and bought alcohol, food, petrol, phone credit and cigarettes. New Zealand Hearald news headline 29 May, 2024 “Raglan man Simon Terence Hamiora Kereopa drags partner outside naked, pours boiling water over her“ Kereopa ( A MAORI) dragged her outside through the kitchen door by her arms, down the kitchen steps and onto the ground. He then grabbed the kettle, which was just inside the door, and poured the boiling water over the victim - who was naked at the time - directly onto her skin. As he did so, Kereopa told her “you deserve it, and that’s what you get”. He then told her he would reboil the jug and pour it on her face. She ran to seek help from her sister but she was asleep, before running into her daughter’s room and hugging her. Kereopa then went into the room and said, “once you let go, I’m burning your face”. Judge Stephen Clark noted Kereopa’s 17 family violence convictions, eight of which were against the current victim. The man responsible, Simon Terence Hamiora Kereopa, was today jailed for the incident, his ninth conviction against the victim during their 20-year-plus relationship. News 24 headline: "Shock over Maori infant brutality" They have been scalded, burned with cigarettes, raped, had bones broken and been beaten unconscious, sometimes to death. Horrific cases of Maori youngsters - some under two years of age - being tortured, abused and KILLED BY MEMBERS OF THEIR OWN FAMILIES Among the grisly headlines that have dominated the nation's media over recent weeks are stories of a 28-month-old Maori girl in a coma after suffering severe head injuries, a broken arm, cuts, bruises and cigarette burns over most of her body. The toddler's 52-year-old grandmother was being held in prison on assault charges. Police in the central North Island town of Carterton are investigating the death a week ago of 23-month-old Maori girl Hinewaoriki Karaitiana-Matiaha who was sexually abused, scalded with hot liquid and beaten before being taken to hospital by relatives. The child, who was put in the care of her grandmother by the Child, Youth and Family Service after consultations with the toddler's family just short of her second birthday, was dead on arrival at Masterton Hospital late on Sunday, July 23. And last week, a coroner in the east coast town of Tauranga found that two-month-old Marcus Te Hira Grey died from a brain haemorrhage following a severe beating by his father. These cases follow the recent release of a report into the gruesome killing last April of four-year-old James Whakaruru, beaten to death by his stepfather for failing to call him Dad. The stepfather had been jailed once for assaulting the boy, but the youngster endured a lifetime of horrific beatings, despite being under the eye of various child welfare agencies, and his hellish existence went unnoticed. The proportion of extreme cases of brutality towards children among the Maori population - which makes up about 15 percent of New Zealand's 3.8 million citizens - is far higher than for any other ethnic group.

Before the British invaders arrived in New Zealand the resident Maoris lived in seperate villages with local chiefs as their leaders. They never had any "Kings" like the English invaders have got, and this copycat leader social control system has actually caused massive amounts of stress and strife amongst what was agreed to be a British Commonwealth Nation of one united people, with the King and Queen of England as it's ruling monarchy. Any suggestion that the appointment of a Maori King or Queen was and has been good for New Zealand is a joke, it has created strife and fake beliefs. But no doubt the BBC have already been told that, or used their brains and worked it out, Is there a Roman King of England ?

To actually investigate a topic before making a decision on what to believe would make common sense and save disappointment when someone who has points out the stupidity of the false belief that is in question. In this case, the Maori have decided to copy the British, and it is as simple as that. Next thing you will probably believe is that the Maori Csar and Putin, the self-decleared King of Russia, are related. You may as well believe something like that, as well as the uniqueness of a Maori King. Like another New Zealander commented, this comment is not about the person but the stupidity of even thinking the Maoris have any factual history of having a ruling Monarch system, as that system is confined to Europe, or in the Maoris own words, "...pakeha (white pig ) invaders...". Why elect a "King" of "Aotearoa" when New Zealand has one ?

I am a new zealander and I have never heard of this guy. Maybe he was a unifying symbol for maori. But I'm pretty sure most didn't even know that there was a maori monarchy. Also new zealand isn't a nation in chaos.
