Congratulations to South Africa 🇿🇦!! As a Kiwi, this one hurt for sure but there isn't another team I would rather lose to. I have my opinions on "things" but in the end, we had our chances and didn't capitalise. So proud of the ABs! 🇳🇿 May our two countries continue on in love and brotherhood!!
South African, here.. Feel the same about the AB's.. Nothing but respect.. The final also illustrated the strength of southern hemisphere - rugby.. Lets keep it in the southern hemisphere for eons to come!.. Cheers!...
As a south african this was the most nerve wrecking game, we all know how NZ can come back in the 2nd half and run over anyone such a brilliant team. I honestly would not of even been mad if we lost to AB
Another South African here, Hats off to you guys, you deserved this game and beat us back with only 14 men. amazing rugby from you guys. This game convinced me we need something better than the yellow/red card system. In a world cup final nobody has time to hesitate in a tackle, just have to commit and hope you did it right. Its clear none of the cards in this game were intentional foul play, even Cheslin's "intentional" knock on was a tackle gone wrong. Imo, red card should be reserved for intentional fouls, or repeated offenses of dangerous play. the red in this game wasn't for eye gouging or getting in a fist fight. It was for giving his all and making a mistake. ( just to be clear, by the written rules of rugby I agree these cards were the correct call, I just think the written rules need a bit more nuance for things like this)
Feeling is mutual my AB rival! Not happy with the way SA played, hats off to the AB’s for not giving up! Sending much love to my nephew in North Harbour, New Zealand ❤
If you don’t know the basic new(ish) news why are you making video’s? Do some research, follow deeply and know your game. Then make a darn video. We have to help you under and what the hell you’re looking at. Come on!
@@Scriv17 dude we putted so much pressure on nz thats why they missed their kicks and didn't go for touch because sa's defence was unbeatable sa knew what they did and they pulled through like i knew.
Don't throw away PSDT and Deon Fourie. Deon came in making bok world cup debut age 37. Was on the bench as hooker never expected to go on hooker but more flanker. He played 78 min hooker yes he was not on the money with the throw it's but made up for it in spades everywhere else turning and Jackling the ball. He walked of the pitch world up debutante, winner and captain. Imagine that
Just some context, I know you mentioned being disappointed by the Boks performance against England, but that came a week after playing the hosts France. This Springboks team endured the draw from hell, playing all the top 5 teams in the world en route to the final - something that's never happened in history. Running the gauntlet, So it's like they effectively played 3 or 4 "finals" - whereas the all blacks had a relatively easier route and an extra days rest. Fair to say the Boks weren't at their best in the semis, and even in the final, simply refusing to relinquish their championship title. So we didn't see classic displays from them (like in the 2019 WC final) but we saw their resilience to overcome the toughest challenge any team has had to face 😅
@@swords-shadowallister5823NZ had a way easier world cup, they played a very bad Argentinian side in the semis. While SA played Scotland,Ireland. All tier one teams, and a very physical Tongan side in the pool stages. Then they played France,England and All Blacks. So yes the Boks had the toughest world cup in history.
News reports are saying that recently New Zealanders are looking twice when crossing the road. Once for cars and a second time for Pieter-Steph du Toit
This win means so much to us. To see the videos of 10s of thousands of South Africans celebrating in the streets after the win, the reactions of the team themselves, their hero’s welcome this morning at the airport! Plus there is still a 3 or 4 day victory tour around the country and plus the president giving us an extra public (national) holiday because of the win. 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Custody battle, great reference. This was an incredibly tense game. I want to say something about the All Blacks that we all discussed as we watched the game. They played an incredibly distinguished game. There was no fighting, no back chatting the ref. I hurt when they send the captain off because I wanted all to have the chance to play. I hurt for him. But they still continued on with so much dignity. Loved watching it. Proud of my springbok boys. It could have been anybody's game.
As a Bok fan I nearly died. I watched the game live at Hamilton rugby club in Ontario with a bunch of great kiwis. I was shouting for 80 minutes and near lifted the roof at the end. I’m a proud South African and ex rugby player but I tip my hat to the All Blacks. That game was on the fence for 80 minutes. But that bok defence is at the top of its tier. Pieter-Stef du Toit man of the match with an incredible 28 tackles. Dion Fourie coming in as a hooker in World Cup final at age 38 and Pollard becoming the highest scorer in RWC final. 4 total cups for South Africa and a world class gentleman for a Captain. What a game. 🎉🇿🇦🏆🏆🏆🏆🤝
The wall was never broken even with 1 man down and we still scored. Well done the Boks. Next time..... Having said that, I believe that short bald winger from SA should have been the most valuable player in the world cup. Someone said to me once, 1 man can't make a difference and I disagree. So long as 1 man has the courage to make a choice and it happens. The butterfly effect for the charge down that ultimately won the quarter and tackle on ricko that saved the try. It's not always about scoring the points but stopping points won the world cup for South Africans. Respect from an All Black'
2:45 a split refers ro the ratio of forward players and back-line players on your bench. South Africa had a 7:1 split. Meaning they had 7 forwards on the bench and 1 back line player on the bench. That type of split is very risky
Just to add some context here. Traditionally most teams opt for a 5 forward and 3 backs split on the bench. The use of the bench is a central part of the springboks strategy as unlike other teams they tend to put some of their best players on the bench to provide the biggest impact late in the game. This is a pretty new concept which other teams have only recently started experimenting with. The springboks also introduced some new novel splits over the last few years the most controversial being 7 forwards and 1 back as this is seen as a risky strategy by other teams as if you loose a single back to injury your in deep trouble. However this fails to recognize that the boks had very little intension of playing this game with their backs and instead used their forwards much more. This mitigates the risk substantially. The controversy really centers around the fact that South Africa are probably the only team with enough depth in players to successfully make use of such a strategy.
@@marcellvanrooyen921 For further clarity in the starting 15 players, the forwards are numbered 1 - 8 and the backline is 9 - 15. The subs are then numbered from 16 up.
Being the finale the world is watching with a packed out crowd. This is Nerve Wrecking stuff for both Teams as it is. One love from New Zealand 💯❤️. Congrats S.A. You guys did a phanomenol game on the day. And to Our boys in 🖤🖤 we are proud of them all. 🎉🎉
I must say this. Kolisi is inspiring, I love Sam Cane, but Kolisi and his attitude, pride, passion and drive should echo across South Africa and bring the country together like never before. If you can my bro, react to Kolisi and Ardie together, that friendship man... Best player of the year and best captain of the year from 2 GOAT teams (I think GOAT should stand for Greatest of Attributed Time, there isn't all time GOAT in a game like Rugby)... Nothing beats that inspirational tag team bro... Much love! 🇿🇦🇳🇿
I'm always happiest when the Boks win against NZ, because then I know they've played a game, and the AB's in the second half of this game was a machine
Springboks had the toughest WC by all bru. They faced 5 of the top six teams in world rugby. Winning 4 out of 5 and the one loss vs Ireland we were on the line at the end and a bad call stopped the game. Hats of to them
@@puccalandwe couldn’t import Suzie so we had to buy the ref for each game. The same way we bought the ref for each of our world cups thus far, including the quarters and semis. We’re just lucky that they are corrupt enough to accept our bribes.
@@halgrynshaun What the hell are you talking about? Who is talking about buying anyone? Do you even follow rugby? I was talking about bad refereeing and never mentioned the Springboks. They aren't the ones taking the decisions, are they? Since you obviously just discovered rugby, please learn that after every match they are reviewed by World Rugby notably to check the referee's decisions. We already got the feedback for the quarters with 2 mistakes acknowledged that they granted the victory to the Springboks, we should get the feedback soon about the Semi and there were some dubious decisions which will be double checked whether you like it or not, and the final will follow the exact same process. Let's also remind you that those refereeing mistakes were game changers since the Springboks won every single of their matches during the knockout phase by a single point only. The team isn't responsible but to claim that they won just because of their hard work screams someone either totally biased or who didn't follow the competition. So instead of talking nonsense simply follow.
They won on details. Refereeing details... if you see what i mean. No hats of to them. A great team but... WR corruption did the job for them. A shame.
@@tristandepierre7028 Corruption or sheer incompetence or isolated referees willingly favouring a team over another? The problem is that even with such blatant mistakes they will keep aligning the same referees again and again. At some point it became so ridiculous than now people are talking about Etzebeth who got Survivor's immunity idol.
It's difficult to really judge this game on the highlight reel alone. I think Hakatime Rugby did a great final review of this match. Can't wait to see Squidge Rugby's how South Africa won the 2023 world cup video. Always enjoy your reaction videos Sean.
Yes, you picked it correctly Sean, well done Springboks, great intense 80min game of attrition. Although I was disappointed with the result, too many errors, poor discipline and not taking points on offer doesn't help the cause. Hold your heads up high AB's, 2nd place is still a great achievement, one up from 2019.
Brother I was waiting since Saturday for your reactions, thanks very much for loving my team, this beautiful game of rugby should be played by more nations,
Du Toit played a special final. those hard hits. Eben wrote the kiwi off with that hard hit. We defended aggressively. Our defence won us the trophy. And good kicking from Handre.
The fact they played the whole game with a man less on the field and ended within a point, with the only team scoring a try and then having 2 bites at the cherry to take the lead with kicks, is really impressive. No doubt in my mind that they would've won if not for the man disadvantage.
As a South African, if there is one thing more dangerous then 15 New Zealanders, that is 14 pissed of All Blacks! This was a match for the books. It could've gone both ways.
That try that the All Blacks scored that was counted was a knock-on. Watching the game live it was easy to tell but the ref didn't see it and didn't call for tmo. It was especially clear in the slow-mo but it did keep South Africa on their toes and made the match a lot more intense, so I am glad that it was counted.
The 7-1 split is the nuts decision taken by the South African to only have one back line player in his subs.. And Man dnt nuts decision win world cups🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 In 2019 they introduced the 6-2 split which was crazy and it won them the world cup..
Been watching you for a few weeks and you always come up on my recommendations 😂 after this review, you got a new sub 👌 keep the awesome content coming!
I truly love these Americans reacting to our beautiful game, and the passion they have and interest in learning the game. I think they do more to grow rugby, than world rugby itself.
The Boks won their play off games by one point each, put those 1 points together and you get 111. Now add the Bok's play-off results (including the final) together and you get the number 111.
This 1 still hurts. Alot of bad calls from the ref but proud of the ABs for doing what they do being down to 14 men for 55 mins. The boks really should have dominated having their 15+1(ref) on the field. ABs til the grave🖤🫡
The 7-1 split means in that game south Africa's game plan will be physical and focused on the forwards, the back line will be chilling mostly and mazimising on those rare opportunities.
Boks have won many games with even 13 men on the field…every single World Cup we were even against the referees blowing us off the park and giving red cards every game..this year we had the best discipline all round
3days later and my voice is still in threads! 3games in a row, a 1point victory for the Springboks. Well played by the AB! It is always a privilege to watch a test between these two titans of rugby!
I've seen some comments saying otherwise, but I thought this was some of the best refereeing I've seen within the current rules of the game. Wayne Barnes is generally accepted as currently the world's top ref, but I thought the TMO did well too. People have to accept that the rules have changed in recent years, it's for the protection of the players, and it won't be changing back, a red card can be given even without intent. The 5/3, 6/2 etc. split is in regard to the tactics used for substitutions. SA tend to go for 7 forwards and 1 back, they will even go for changing all 7 at once.. the "shock bock" to overpower an opposing teams forward line.
Bench split between forwards and backs! 4:52 that was a deliberate elimination of our only specialist hooker #2 Bongi by the AB's. This disrupted our lines outs immensely! But fortunately AB's couldn't kick to save their lives which ultimately cost them the match.
The highlights didn't show the near two tries from the Springboks. You should go to the world cup in the USA. You'll love it. It's all blood, sweat and tears. Enjoy your comments.
8 Subs (Forwards + Back) normally 4-4, 3-5 are the usual spilts until Rassie came with 7-1 6-2 and even 8-0 which a lot of team are complaining against aka "The Bomb Squad" Little fact every time the Springboks finds to win a World Cup the Northern Hemisphere teams demand rule changes 2007, 2019 was the way we maul, now it was way we use the bench.
The Springboks are the only animals and they brought flowers, roses and leaves to battle us?We feed on these items.I don't know what they were thinking.
You can imagine how painful this match was for the ABS but how happy I am for the Bokke. I think the officials were absolutely terrible and inconsistent. But there were handling errors all over the park. Enjoy the win RSA but we’ll be coming for you next time 🇳🇿🇿🇦
5-3, 6-2, 7-1 split etc refers to the replacements on the bench. Usually teams go 5 forwards, 3 backs. Springboks have been going 7 forwards, 1 back with their tactic being to bring a fresh forward pack for the 2nd half to batter the opposition into submission. It's been working.
Yoh I've been looking at so many reactions for this world cup and you hrs is the one I have been burning to see , if only u could see and watch the entire game shooooooooo, u adopted by SA already , but all love tho ❤🎉🎉
This game was extremely stressful. All South Africans took out extra medical aid for this game 😂😂 Remember also that SA landed in the pool of death in this rugby world cup. We faced extremely difficult teams to get to the final.
That was a pity Jordie had to do double duties for the game pushing in the scrums. Perhaps his legs would have had more spring in them to take that kick.
The match I thought we were going to lose was with France, they really gave us a run for our money. We played badly against England ngl. Our defence was better when we played with new zealand. All nail biting matches
You should watch the entire final, then you will see that Boks had a defensive gameplan, with 3-man pod defensive plays at the breakdown... Like Haenas on a carcas!
5/3 6/2 7/1 refers to the 8 substitutions on the bench, how the forewards and backs are split so 7/1 means there's 7 forewards on the bench but only 1 back line player. It's very risky if a back gets injured but it's the 3rd time the Boks have done it.
The whole 5-3/6-2/7-1 split thing refers to the substitute players. ex. 5-3 means '5 forwards and 3 backs', 6-2 means '6 forwards and 2 backs' etc etc. You are allowed 8 substitutes, and the other rule is you have to have to a replacement 'front row' on the bench (two props and one hooker). After that you can pick whoever you want on the bench. South Africa played this game with a 7-1 split, which is very risky if any of your backs get injured, but it worked.
It's no fluke that the Springboks know exactly how to win against their rivals etc, the springbok are never underdogs. They are simply the best, NZ are good, England are a hype team, France are good. The Springboks have always been the best, and should always be considered favourites, previous form means nothing for this team. They carry the hope of a nation on their shoulders and they the Bokke are 100% conscious of that fact, they will always find a way to win.
The spilt is how many players are set on the bench between your forwards and back line players for example South Africa had a 7 1 spilt on their bench meaning 7 forwards were on the bench and only 1 backline player. It's a risky set up because a back line player could get injured and that could affect your teams game plan drastically if the one backline player on the bench does not play the position that the injured player was playing but instead of it being a bad choice for South Africa it worked out as planned
When they talk about the split its the amount of forwards and backs on the bench there is 8 people on the bench so if its a 7-1 split its 7 forwards and one back
The split essentially is the amount of forwards and backline players on the bench on the bench.. 5-3 means there are 5 forwards heavy strong dudes on the bench and 3 backline players.... 7-1 split means you have 7 forwards so big guys on the bench and 1 backline... They are talking tactics in replacing players when injured or tired
