6:04 I don't know if I would call that event 'hazing' to be honest. It was more like kids being little pieces of dog doo. Some kids like to laugh and poke fun at another kid who did something embarassing. That teacher certainly didn't help. What kind of person laughs at a kid who just crashed into a garbage can and is being called names by other kids?! Jeez she's like the teacher from The Grinch movie! Anywho, I really loved the story you shared about your father and the softball game. Hope we hear more stories like that in the future!

Hello Mrs Blissy! At the part where Dashy tried to react the mane 6 is the most funniest part for me!

An incredibly fair and balanced review on a difficult episode - I sure don't regret checking out your channel ^^ I personally found it a very relatable episode because - as you pointed out - one doesn't need to have a military background to learn what it means to shake a mistake off and move on from. You've also adressed some of the complaints I have with the episode, mainly the cringeworthy (yet funny) impressions and the communication issues. You've even brought up the flashback - a thing I didn't see as a problem before. Now I can see that it probably was put just at the wrong moment, to push sympathy for Rainbow Dash when she was really the cause of her own downfall here.

I actually liked this episode because I understood that she was basically causing all the issues which created the hazing (not hashing). If dash wasn't trying to stand out, and reared it in a little, she would've meshed well with the others and maybe gotten a cooler nickname. Keep up the good reviews, miss bliss. P.S. It's Ashleigh ball, not Alicia ball.

I don't see what's so bad about it. Sure, it's a bit cringy, but as I've learned (and it's still not as bad as Parenthood Max -_-) something cringy moments can work in setting a mood, and to make us deal with uncomfortable truths about ourselves when done properly. Which I think this episode did so

I'm a military kid my dad is a soldier and I love this episode because it resembles the military I even have my own nickname Wilde fire.

Well personally, i think the reason why Newbie Dash left a bad taste is due to the Wonderbolt's rap-sheet in the past seasons. They were pretty much useless in subduing giant dragon Spike, they initially promoted recklessness in Wonderbolt Academy and they ditched Soarin during the Rainbow Falls Equestria Games Qualifier. They only reason ponies like Lightning Dust were kicked out or Soarin getting back on the team was due to Rainbow Dash calling them out. For some fans, Newbie Dash was supposed to be Rainbow's big moment, when she finally achieves her dream. Yes she's at fault for not communicating with her team mates but so are the others. They should've known something was up when Rainbow was not performing 100% after they called her Rainbow Crash (Still hate the name). But that's my personal opinion, other than that great review Miss Bliss ^^

Fun fact: The guy who created Bugs Bunny and Daphy Duck (who also voice them) had, at one point, voice Daphy Duck mimicking Bugs Bunny and Vice Versa. Sure, Rainbow's voice actor did great trying to make Rainbow try to sound like Applejack, but she wasn't the and most certainly won't be the last.

Oddly enough, my dad did the same thing to me as a kid. He called me "Chucnarp" in my secret language means shorty. I did feel heart broken but that coming from my dad motivated me to win some netball matches and some of them I actually won. So I agree with you on this video

This form of treatment only broke me. I don't see how people learn from it. It's just damaging. I know from experience.

Bliss your younger self is small and rainbow dash was having so much fun with the impersonations and if we ever met I wouldn't use the cute I would use awesome or amazing just because of your videos and the magic lessons that is the highlights of your channel.

i think i said something similar when i analyzed The Wonderbolts. They were formed for air support but were later repurposed for the most part

I always knew Ashleigh Ball was extra talented, and it's not just from this episode I'm convinced she has the hobby of practicing bird calls.

This episode did resonate with me in the bullying issue. I did enjoy it and felt it was a good lesson for children. Perhaps it could have been done sooner when Dashie was more like that personality she displayed here but that's okay.

I still love it. I like it better than if everything went great right off the bat. not to mention, it showed that she has a habit of only caring about standing out. on top of it, if the name had been anything else, it would have voided the meaning of the episode. plus, I loved her impressions,especially the Fluttershy and Rarity

I actually had a softball incident when I was younger, too! However, it didn't happen quite as yours did. I was up to bat and I wasn't very good at hitting the ball. As in I'd usually miss it by a mile! However, this time, I did manage to hit it. I kinda had my eyes closed for a second which just so happened to be the moment when I hit the ball so I didn't see where it went. Before I took my run to first base, I looked around a bit to see where the ball was but couldn't find it. That is until I looked straight up . . . The ball came right back down and hit me directly on my nose. It hit me so hard that I actually fell down and began to cry in front of my entire team, the rival team, and everyone watching the game. I was taken to the side and was given an icepack to help with the pain. I was out for the rest of the game after nearly having broken my nose and I actually developed a fear of balls coming at me. Not an easy fear to have when it seemed like balls were always coming at me, specifically my face! It's like my face is a magnet for balls or something and it hurts! Needless to say, I never played softball again and realized just how terribly misnamed the game is. THOSE BALLS ARE NOT SOFT, PEOPLE!!!

This episode kind of grew on me after a few rewatches. I still don't like that copycat scene, but there's a surprising amount of depth to the episode.

My only problem with the episode was the cringy second act. Other than that, I was fine with it. I expected Dash to do something hairbrained however since she allowed stress to cloud her judgement. Happens to the best of us.

Great review you did Bliss! yeah, even with hearing Josh's review and toons review on them. even I still have a hard time knowing what I think of it since I was more neutral about it. sure like Fox I hated the cringe, the only one of the enjoyments from it was Rainbow being Rarity to flirt with Saorin since it shows maybe Saorin does have a thing for Dash. But I think you helped me out a bit and I think it is best to say I am still neutral on it since as bad it felt, we at least get to see Dash achieve her dream and like Rarity, she can get a new goal to give her more development.

Voicing applejack did not take practice, Mrs.Ball already voices her.

im not too crazy on this episode myself because it felt like rainbow was really trying too hard. plus the rainbow crash nickname thing kinda made me wanna bang my head against spitfires locker.

Some of my points are about the same as yours blissy and I definitely agree that the voice acting was on fire in this episode. Some people may out right hate this episode but there was some good in it right.?

Ms bliss may I ask what did you say to your father after your victory, did you thank him for the motivation or something else.

Maybe this episodenyes was cringey, akward, weird, etc. I gotta say though, let's be honest, more than one can feel represented here when entering a new team or club or anything in which you're the noob and try to be as good as everyone else but end up either failing by doing something like Dashie here or succeding by working hard and focusing on what makes you good at X or Y thing that you're in. I remember myself entering a sports team, me being the noob tried to catch every ball, run as fast as I could and learned a lot about football and all around it, thankfully my dad played football so he thought me some things or two. I had a blast playing with them, I wasn't the best at the end but I stood out with a big throwing and reception.

I know it's been many months since you made this review, but I have to ask, have you noticed that the Wonderbolts' manes, at least most of Wonderbolts, seem to have a combed back mane style. Now, I understand that the mane style may just be how it's naturally styled, but when I look at them, it makes me think that their manes are styled that way for less drag and more aerodynamic performances. But what do you think Lightning Bliss?

it was an okay episode for me. a 7.8% out of 10% or in rainbow dash case 17.8% out of 20% cooler.

a couple of nitpicks it is Ashleigh Ball not Alisia Ball and I think you mean hazing instead of hashing. Also hazing is NOT allowed everywhere I know it is cause for disiplinary action in the danish airforce at least

Question, since I'm new here - has Lightning Bliss ever tried combining magic with another unicorn who can control magic well? If her problem is that she has a huge amount of power, but has trouble controlling it, what about having another unicorn act as a kind of valve, to process the power as it's released? Or is that form of combination magic not that common?

Yaaa she had a rough road and was downright isgrociating( Even if i get that wrong:? worth it) But other than that it was awesome to see her conquer this. Can't wait to see more episodes of her, and hopefully NO MORE SLIP UPS!

I really liked the episode. I always viewed Rainbow Dash as a more obnoxious character, but this one kinda brought her down a peg into reality.

the episode was okay for my opinion ^^' I understand why they give nicknames and at the beginning I didn't like it but when we came at the part where spitfire is giving rainbow dash her the nickname I realise that it was more to give her strength and motivation.

I'd say they (along with the rest of the military in the show) are more a ceremonial guard type military. Some small nations do that. And hashing has too be informed, a message must be understood.

I was seriously considering joining the military at one point. Has anyone here ever faced any kind of prejudice in the armed forces? I'm a transgender atheist and there are people who dont like people like me. Not that I'm saying the armed forces are full of those kinds of people, my whole city is home to a military base abd I've never once met a single enlisted man with any unfair biases or hateful mindsets. I just want to know if you've ever faced something like that.

Wait is the nightmare a regular Tuesday or is the bullying a regular Tuesday

While I don't like the mimicry scene, I do like the rest of the episode. I've experienced bullying harassment, and I've experienced social nickname based joking around. The difference is obvious and stark, and Newbie Dash portrays the latter. Sadly, people treat it like the worst of the former, not understanding the difference.

Just a heads-up, Blissy; the term you're thinking of is called "hazing", not "hashing".

I'm in my late thirties, and I still find hashing a little hard to take. Mostly because I'm high functioning autistic and can get rather irritated easily.

They are more so the Blue Angel’s because if you think about it....... they don’t do a good job at defending places and they also put on a lot of air shows

What a lot of civilians don't understand is. Hazing/being yelled at/called names is a valid and very important part of military life. Especially in the first months when you are in boot camp/A school. This is where they break down all the social programming, then build you back up not only as a team member but a solder. Without this, the military just would not work. You would see people ignoring orders, reacting in the wrong ways to pressure situations, and locking up. Is it harsh, yes, but it is necessary.

I'm unfortunately leaning more towards disliking it. On the one hand there are parts I find funny, like the Applejack impression (sorry Southern Americans), and I get the lesson they're trying to teach, but on the other it has some serious problems in storytelling. For a start the story is too easily unraveled. One phrase could rend the entire plot moot, "please stop calling me Crash". I know this sounds similar to someone you'd rather not talk about (don't worry. I'm not like her) however this simple action solves the plot too easily. If Rainbow said this and the Wonderbolts refused, who would be in the wrong here? And I know the reasons given is that Rainbow is a character who learns by action rather than words, but she's far from stupid, I think both her and the Wonderbolts are capable of taking this approach. As for the moral, I'm split on it. I can agree with parts of it, but its execution (and some of the reviews that came out afterwards) has left a bitter taste in my mouth, for this can be so easily taken the wrong way and used to harm others rather than help them. Not to mention the Rabbit warren of controversy that's arisen because of it (or at least influenced by it). In the end it comes down to intent, interpretation and influence, but lets not forget the real problems that this brings up either. Have a happy Easter Monday Lightning Bliss, sorry if I sounded too morbid.

I was a little towards the negative on this episode. At this point, I'm neutral. I'm concerned that Dash was acting a little OOC in this, as well as the re-enactment of the rest of the Mane 6,, but the beginning and the end were very well done.

Yeah... To be honest I'm probably one of the few who didn't really have that much of a problem with Dash's imitation of her friends. I mean sure a facepalm it might drag out of me. But Ashleigh Ball's voice performance alone manage to leave me more with that of an amused chuckle as opposed to the almighty cringe.^_^
