What don’t you want? If it’s on same land or within a couple of hundreds yards? We’ve knocked down and rebuilt stands at SJP before… it’s the location that makes it unique in heart of city, if we can stay there then I don’t know what people are attached to? The stands are a 90s relic and they will go at some point.
@@joethompson8180 this redevelopment will cause seats to be moved, people wanting to stay because they think they will retain their seat aren’t paying attention. The majority of any redevelopment will be for corporate seats and those seats may well be in prime viewing positions like the East stand. The issue with the London stadium is that it was build for athletics, unlike Spurs.
52,000 to only 60,000 seems a massive anti climax. But the modernisation and them saying it will be the most innovative stadium in the premier league sounds amazing!
Redevelop to get an extra 8000 to 13000 capacity? Not great or visionary really. We could fill SJP currently with an extra 30000. So developing the only stand we can (Gallowgate End) leaving us with a lopsided ground (3 large sides instead of current 2) with the diddy east stand - unable to develop thanks to grade 1 Leazes Terrace. Don’t forget, we don’t even own the current SJP land (we rent it off the council). If the report is true then - Total wasted opportunity to build a world class 80000 Wembley of the North. Watching SJP ‘develop’ since 1975, it’s been a series of ‘compromises’. If you believe the latest news, (if true), SJP will be heading for another compromise thanks to constraints.
PIF have not bought Newcastle to be also-rans with a vision of perhaps building a new stadium in 15-20 years. We should be going full steam ahead for an 80,000 seater stadium behind SJP in the next 5 years...
If Beyonce keeps doing country music stadium of light can bloody keep her woffle 🙄. Took the kids over to st James for their 1st time on Saturday o m.g what a place entered 10 ballot finally won one couldn't be happier can't wait to get back over from Northern Ireland toon toon ⚪⚫⚪⚫
Nice one. I travelled to my first match from sunny oul Armagh for the Sela Cup last year. My god, SJP is like heaven location-wise, true Church on the hill. Ran complete rings around fiorentina too!!! TOON TOON!!
@@greensidemags who knows but i take it all with a pinch of salt until theres an offical announcement the local rag and local you tubers have jumped on this as fact when its not until the club annouce there plans
I don't see how they create more than 60k. Maybe if they add a bit to the Leazes and Milburn... Something like a semi circular addition and a complete roof replacement on those 2 stands, then the Gallowgate to mirror the Leazes, you might get more that way, if it's possible to build like that. So those 3 stands could resemble the Tottenham stadium in some respect. But if they simply make the Gallowgate the same height as those 2 stands, we're looking at around 60-62k in my opinion. And I'm fine with that. When the owners are looking at improving the stadium, I think that primarily means the facilities. I think we see a huge upgrade to the existing stands, the concourses, the lounges, and bars, with the expectation that fans will spend more time eating/drinking at the stadium before games. That sort of thing is a huge improvement on income. New facilities in the existing stands can be introduced now, even with the Stacks there, and I think that will be the first development. Regarding the Gallowgate, I can see a fan area for watching games becoming a permanent fixture, where the Stacks is being built now but integrated into a new stand; a huge open expanse for watching games and hosting events. New bars, lounges, and eateries in every stand, all around the stadium, to extend the length of the match day experience at the stadium, and to make St. James' more suitable for and attractive to events, concerts, international games, and other sports'... this is where the money is for the club. They can make way more money doing this than shoving as many seats as possible into the stadium. At the same time, they placate the fans by not moving our home, expanding the stadium to its maximum for where we are, and modernising the place. This is the aim imo. A 60-62k events hub that happens to be mint for eating, drinking, watching footy, and keeps all us sentimental fans happy.
Yes Matty, it's going to be so interesting to see the plans, and apparently they're planning an unbelievable refurb, i was up for the new stadium idea, but I'm more than happy to stay at SJP, It could be massively exciting. Add, Leazes terrace grade one listed of course is now owned by another Saudi group, and are mostly lettings apartments, and imo they won't block the PIF regarding building works, although the city council will demand consideration regarding light, but the best architects in the world will be on the case. For me it has to be 65,000 at least, but i think it will be wonderful. Could it be ready for Euro 2028, well, where's there's a will there's a way. . HWTL.
If the third stand gets approved then Newcastle MUST put the TV cameras into the smaller stand, to show off the super stadium, rather the current configuration which for most of the match looks like Swansea's ground!
They will be very expensive seats or corporate, or some fans I’ll be moved to them to accommodate hospitality, FFP means we need to generate money and that’s how you do it. We have a ground that has no corporate in East & Gallowgate, that’s why we lag behind so much on match day revenue. A new stadium could have corporate all way around as well the extra seats to accommodate fans and importantly kids as they are being locked out. It’s sad news.
I've said it loads of times- with the advancement in technology and construction methods, why can't we add another retractable tier to the east stand that can be lowered between games to allow the sunlight back through to the listed buildings? Even when it is erected, it came be made from some sort of see through 'glass' material to allow the light through as best as possible during games. I don't think the listed buildings are the main problem. The main problem is that stupid rule where sunlight needs to hit grade 1 listed buildings. Crazy. However, my preference was a new stadium. To all the people crying about wanting to stay at SJP- We've knocked down ALL stands at one point in the past and replaced them. Plus, how many times has the pitch been re-layed!?? There is literally nothing left of the original ground anyway so what difference does a new stadium make that will probably only be a matter of a few hundred yards away from SJP??
To do anything building wise so so costly, so a sticking plaster extension that will cost a fortune and then ripping down the fan zone that cost millions is crazy. Moving the Leazes back onto carpark would allow full height all the way around. Not building a new stadium means keeping sjp name? Serious loss of revenue there. Not sure about this news at all.
Where's, the ambition ?? We should be looking to build the Wembley of the North. I'm disappointed about this, genrations down the line will suffer because of this. "Build, & they shall come", i guess not ! It's the loyalist fans in the land that will suffer due to Ltd ambition ! I expected a lot better. We have the loyalist fan base in the world, and the club should be moving mountains to accommodate them. But, clearly not !
Probably after Euro 2028. Ultimately they are taking it slowly but as the jewel in the crown the pif will want an iconic space age stadium as a statement ala Spurs or perhaps Atlanta Stadium with floating scoreboards snd huge concourse etc Gallowgate expansion is probably about upping revenue in the medium term in this case matchday ticket sales
I don't mean to sound impatient, but this is years off *if what you're saying is true. I want to see us being the best, having the best stadium, in the world, in my lifetime. I personally hope this article is inaccurate, like their last one about building the stadium on the Arena site. But, I hear what you're saying mate, it's just a massive anticlimax, imo !
I’d rather have a new stadium, anyone who wanted to stay I hope you’ll all be ok loosing your season ticket for the few years the work goes on and still not have much more and big people aren’t having concerts in a open top stadium when they can go to fully coved stadium and no matter what the weather they can preform, your kidding yourself, it rains most days here , we need a new stadium with a roof , sad day for me and Iv been going to st James park for over 40 years , this isn’t taking us into the future with ambition this is give them a little bit and paper over the cracks , how many thousands will loose their seats to do this for how many years then how long will it take to make up the lost revenue and pay for the extension, don’t talk about extra money until it built and payed for itself back as loss of earnings will be felt either way
Don't think anybody would lose their season ticket because the Gallowgate is extended, nobody did when the Milburn and Leazes were extended, the capacity remained the same.
Thinking about it this is the right decision, we are far more likely to progress faster when we keep our home the same for the time being, but we 100% need a new stadium in the next 5-10 years
Underwhelming and not a good sign for the Saudis long term intentions if true. Really depends what they mean by 'redevelopment'. If by redevelopment they mean knock it down and rebuild on the current site then I'm all for it. If it means expanding a dilapidated, outdated, lopsided stadium then this isn't what the Saudis should be doing with their virtually limitless money. They're supposed to want to be number one! SJP in its current guise gets you nowhere near number one. Shocking really when you consider the investment Abu Dhabi has put into Manchester. Best to wait to see what the club come out and officially say before commenting further.
Didn't City come fully equipped with a brand new stadium for free? UK tax payers bought Abu Dhabi's stadium for them. (Common wealth games). Not too shocking to be getting a stadium expansion / regeneration from a decent initial capacity of 52 k. I'd be buzzing if we got up to 65 k and modernised the look of the place.
Not at all, Real Madrid just done the exact same thing. If we move stadium we also loose the right to put away fans up in the clouds, we are the only stadium that is allowed to do it due to the seating plan. If we lost that it would effect atmosphere and flag displays putting away fans pitchside.
I agree as extending this stadium will take nearly the same time to build a new stadium and the lack of ambition says it all to me or are we talking new stadium in 10 years to start building , total lack of ambition so we extend for possible10k and they want more corporate boxes so thousands will loose their seats while the work goes on ,
Brilliant news! If we move stadium we also loose the right to put away fans up in the clouds, we are the only stadium that is allowed to do it due to the seating plan. If we lost that it would effect atmosphere and flag displays putting away fans pitchside.
@craig3613 Couldn't agree more, the height gives vocal away fans a very dominant position that I think does affect the atmosphere. Increasing the capacity will only add to their numbers. I thought in the CL games the away fans made it very difficult for the home fans to impose themselves - Dortmund and Milan especially
@@buckledwheel8531 the away fans or the fact they had drums? I guarantee it was the fact they had drums which overpowers everything, I was at the PSG and Dortmund home games and the drum was doing my head in.
I don’t care what any of you lot think, keep SJP. You think the future is a heartless new stadium somewhere in Gateshead or wherever, or squatting on the edge of the town moor? Newcastle has already had too much of its architecture and heritage vandalised, so develop what we already have and don’t be so hasty to chuck the location and the heritage away. Keep SJP!
Very well said.....I'm all for keeping the heritage of our great club exactly where it has been all these years. The emotions inside SJP will be biblical when we finally win something, and I want that to be there not some spanking new trendy stadium
There is land outside the city but the public transport infrastructure doesn't exist. The culture of going to the match and being in the Toon before and after the match is just as, if not more than, important as the game. Anywhere outside of the city wouldn't work.
@@slassor people can drive and the rest will come whith time if people can travel from all over the world to watch a newcastle game then it is just lazy
@@thomaspagh8988 So you think the whole 100+ year culture of going to the match should be dumped for a handful of tourists who'll piss off and follow some other club when they're tired of NUFC ? How would you accommodate the amount of car parking that you suggest? You're either not from Newcastle or don't have a clue about what the match day experience is if you are.
one lousey season and the fans will be staying away in droves as they did with Ashley. One thing is for sure it will be the down trodden "poor" fans that pay for all this and the last of the old timers will be forced out of our seats. These owners fill me with dred with their talk of billions when one of the biggest "food banks" is less than a mile away from the ground.
Hope Newcastle get the stadium to 60.000k fans as Liverpool fans are ground Anfield still not big enough for Liverpool 61000k still to small 74000k to 80.000k fans
60,000 is Never going to be big enough, it will need to be 100,000 minimum, Once our club plan gets into action and we attain Champions league regularly , then there will be thousands of fans from away clubs and our own that want to go to the games.
