Newcastle United Superstars BBC TV Series David Hemery Ron Pickering Liverpool Burnley Newcastle Utd - Malcolm Macdonald Superstars Sprint 1975 - Rotterdam
Here's a question not yet asked - did McDonald run 100 metres or 96 metres? If he ran 100 metres, then Hemery must have ran 104 metres, which would be very odd. Surely 'scratch' for a 100 metres handicap race is well, 100 metres...
@It’s in the trees “Supermac ran even faster, clocking up an incredible 10.9 seconds, a Superstars record - and quick enough to be an Olympic qualifying time that year.”
@@misfit2022 Please tell - when did you see any male athlete at the Olympics run a 10.9 for a 100? Looking at Power of 10 rankings for last year, 10.9 would have put Supermac at joint 256th in the UK rankings. How much different do you think it would have been in the 1970's? 10.9 is very quick for a footballer, but this comparison to track athletes is ridiculous....
@@paulswords3705 Only McDonald wasn't running it by 'modern day standards' was he? In fact he ran this race several years before Wells became Olympic Champion! I don't think you have any idea just how fast 10.1 for 100 metres is.
when McDonald ran 10.9 seconds Alan Welles was struggling to break 11 seconds for the 100m in 1976 the year that this programme was made approximately. My argument is that with proper training and coaching, diet, and time devoted to the event etc he could have at least threatened the British record which was a very average time.
