I am the only U.S. born ,however six siblings were born in Nfld love my family history. Includes lots interesting info. Last location of family there was Seal Cove. Way back in1928 family migrated here. Am exceeding proud of family and their ancestors. Would love Edgar and Ginn info. Am aware of John Pilgrim Ginn and master mariner John Edgar (both in1800s). Thx for venue & love these pics. Sid Edgar
this has never happen to us before that someone found them self in one of our many travel videos. and now there are even two people, you and Amy Baker, lovely thanks
What a great video...thanks! I have visited Newfoundland three times, and hope to go back again someday. It's a beautiful place, and people are always so friendly.
Nice video, one little inaccuracy though. The parade on 1 July is not in celebration of Canada Day, as was implied in the video. It is marking the anniversary of the bloodiest battle in Newfoundland's military history, the Battle of Beaumont Hamel in France, which took place on 1 July 1916 which nearly wiped out the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Always nice to see my home from a tourist's perspective!
Hi Maryam, thank you and everyone else for the lovely write-ups. What a change from the sometimes stupid or downright insulting comments we are getting. People like you make it worthwhile putting the work into producing our travel videos!
I was born in curling newfoundland ..but have ever been back since my parents moved to the U.S. in 1951 ..always wanted to go there to see where I was born ..but unfortunately have never got to go ..
Beautiful job on the video. Newfoundland sounds like “understand”, by the way. 😁Also, it’s too bad you didn’t seem to get to see Western Brook fjords or the Bay of Islands-maybe another time! 😊 Excellent quality video!
God Love you , you and your videos are great! But, We Nfld'rs have a chuckle to ourselves on your "interpretation "...lol ...which is great ..were a funny bunch...lol
Newfound Land seems like one of those places most reminiscent of the Commonwealth, quite unlike but somewhat similar to the British hill stations of the defunct British Empire.
Hi! You got so many amazing shots of Newfoundland! I'm a student at the University of British Columbia working on a school film project on Newfoundlanders moving to the west coast, and I was wondering if I could possibly use a couple short shots (5-10 seconds) of scenery from your piece. Thanks for your time!
This looks so much like Norway. The cod also made people rich in Bergen, Norway. The waterfalls and the fjords. Oh yes, and a little something about the viking ship recreation and the respective Nordic community.
I LIVED IN A LITTLE VILLAGE NORTH OF HEARTS CONTENT NL FOR 7 YEARS AND MY BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS STILL RESIDE THERE IN MY HOME THAT IS STILL MORE THAN HALF MINE ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN 60 FEET FROM T
There's many flaws in this film... That wood being harvested isn't Newfoundland, those types of woodpeckers aren't found in Newfoundland either... Sorry.
dennis richards it’s not pronounced that way either. It’s not fun-land. Say “understand” and it’s like saying Newfoundland. This lady drags the “found” but you just say it as it is. Newfoundland. It’s not that hard.
Beautifully crafted video, and I appreciate the great amount of work that it took to produce it. But I cringed every time I heard her mispronounce “Newfoundland.” It rhymes with “understand,” with equal emphasis on all three syllables - NEW- FOUND - LAND. There were other pronunciation errors as well, but I'll forgive her if she could fix just this one!
Where is LEMOMONCH located in Newfoundland. I would love to visit there, this is a fantastic video by the way, even though our ice flows from the NorthEast Coast/Artic of Canada as well as Greenland.
NorthWest Firefighter if you were intending on turning the log into 8 ft boards, anything you cut off the end of the log over and above 8 feet would be the off cut.
@@dblank5235 nope, I'm in Vancouver BC. I'm not saying I know everything about the weather patterns in all of Newfoundland, just that a small part could, possibly, see that much rain.
yes, rhymes with Understand - Newfoundland. Lovely video but every time she mispronounced Newfoundland it was like nails on a chalkboard. Surely she was there long enough to learn how to say it properly.
@@terrimackinnon4519 so says the person that probably mispronounces nearly everything he/she says. First when I moved here I had no idea what some people were saying. I understand a bit more now but it took a while.
Leave it to a Newfie to complain when someone goes through the effort of making a video, spends money, and has good things to say about Newfoundland. Petty much?
Cause nobody would understand it, right me buddy. Wit all da dropped haitches and haitches hadded ahn, it would be 'ard to know what she's gittin ahn wit. (I'm a Townie the past 29 years but grew up around the bay in Nova Scotia).
No, that would be an honorable history. Most Newfoundlanders live as serfs in the city. Very, very few live in the woods or country. I grew up in the country and even I was looked at as weird in what I liked to do for fun (fishing, hiking, quad, ice fishing). I was basically a hick outcast to most of the people I went to school with. Newfoundland life nowadays (because of their willingness to let the government rule them) is basically work at some shit job long enough to get unemployment hours, take unemployment, and then cry and moan while seeking work they don't want to do. The usual work is call center until unemployment hours are met, quit, collect pokey, back to work when it runs out with a face on. The other lifestyle is men collect enough money fishing, their wives then work in the a fish plant, the wives then strike for more money, get some pokey, go home and live off of pokey until next season. The smartest Newfies don't live there, or are retired when they come back. Those are hated by the lazy ones that did nothing in life but still envy the other guys truck or house. These are oil rig workers, refinery workers and people who just left - like myself. They go away, they generally work hard, they stay until they can retire and visit on holidays. When they retire they buy nice houses and have nice things and the other Newfie hate them for it. Nothing Viking about it... nothing. It's a welfare society.
@@stuarthawk136 Lol... Yeah, nothing at all. I know my story hit you right in the chest. It's why you replied. It isn't a story. It is just about every Newfie's reality.
Rofl Stomps there’s no way in hell you’re from fucking Newfoundland. You have no idea what you’re talking about with fucking fish plants and fishermen when the fishery collapsed here decades ago and there’s hardly any fishermen here anymore. Keep your mainlander bigotry and idiocy to yourself, fucking mainland prick.
So.. that's my friends and I swimming at LaManche in this video. I went back for another look because I'm dying for a swim right now and thought "there's something familiar about that girl in the green bikini... those tattoos." Then I realized they're mine.
You look kinda fit, no offense but why do lots of girls in NL look like an inflated ballon? Don't they like to take care of their body or it's just genetics? I'm coming to St. John's this fall,if not then in January to study
@@amybaker6941 I just observed something and I wanted to know why is it so, you could've explained or told me otherwise that I maybe I am misinformed but no, you couldn't present a sound statement. Of course, how can you...
@@AbhijeetSingh-lf3uu you just asked me how the female population of my people look like inflated balloons, and that you think its weird how it seems they don't take care of their bodies. How about you don't comment on a woman's body, let alone one you don't know or an ENTIRE POPULATION of them. You didn't make an observation, you made a rude, sexist remark. So, go. fuck. yourself.
@@amybaker6941 every human has a different sort of trait and can be classified appropriately so. I asked why, not how and in a way that I was asking if this is true. It's not my fault that you're the blue pill sort, truth always hurts.also learn to take a joke and not be a feminazi. As for the word "fuck yourself"...nah that's what you do to yourself, anyway it's not my business. Jumping to conclusions and spewing hate, there's no point in talking to someone who can't coherently talk about a topic
You know whats really shitty about this video, the person narrating was actually in Newfoundland and would have heard how to properly pronounce it a hundred times, what does she do ? She goes home, produces her video and pronounces it the way she thinks it should be said. What a foolish thing to do. Its "Newfenland " not New found Land. I cant even finish watching after I heard her say it the second time.
But it is a "fact" that "IS IN ORDER" canso... She specifically said the industry "In Canada" She also stated forestry employs 1/2 a million people. Canada is NOT all of Nfld As Newfoundland only has @ 1/2 Million... LoLoLoL!!!
It is pronounced so poorly by the lady doing video commentary....as many do😠 it is prounounced newfin land,Not new foundlind!please get it right it isnt rocket science!!
Over half 1 million people are employed indirectly or directly by the forest industry. You’ve got to be joking. The entire population of Newfoundland is barely over half 1 million people and that includes every man woman and child. And it isn’t pronounced new-found-land. It’s pronounced like new-fun-land. Pay no attention to this woman she has no clue what she’s talking about.
She can be forgiven for what you think is improper pronunciation. What's your excuse for not being able to spell Newfoundland? "Capt Tommy Schmitt 1 year ago Uneducated speaker.....she can not pronounce Newfounfland.......producers and sponsors TAKE NOTE." How do you pronounce 'Newfounfland', by? Wha? Yesss, Beh!
