There’s literally different type of Y2K looks from Y2K skater boy, Y2K grunge, Bratz Y2K, poppy Y2K. And said the song are copied too 1. No one owns a style and if she wants credit she needs to credit the black community. 2. Newjeans has more of 90s r&b pop sound and illit has anime citypop sound

Especially given the group was largely unknown and not a single person in the states or let alone Korea would have known the group was even a group

Just cause you didn’t know doesn’t mean MHJ didn’t know. Same way you might not movies and tv shows that aren’t big and from different countries doesn’t mean an actor or film maker won’t know as well.

That's because Min hee jin accused ILLIT that they copied NEWJEANS when she herself copied her group from this group "JEANS". When she copies then it is inspiration if others did then it is plagiarism. If she didn't accused ILLIT then this wouldn't happened.

It's palagrism. Each country has their own copyright thing. If someone buys or wants to do something similar then they need to take permission through a legal contract but Many Asian countries don't have and they cheat and call it "we inspire the concept" because their laws don't affect them. Even in movies if people want to do something similar then they 1st sign the contract with the director or producer.

NewJeans is inspired by the Y2K and 90s concept. It's called inspiration. Now, I don't understand why MHJ took so seriously about the ILLIT concept, which is not similar. The JEANS group was happy to see that the 90s concept is coming back.

Honestly I was super sad first when I heard the news so I went to listen and watch some JEANS songs to make myself my own opinion on the matter and ... I don't understand the controversy haha. Like the music style, the way MV are shooted, even fashion used (wich I thought would be the most similar thing at first) were super different. It's normal you can find some similarities as JEANS debuted in 95 so it's definitely (naturally) retro to the core and NEWJEANS is inspired by a lot of Y2K, late 90's trend. I think in the end it's more about inspirations (which is normal if you built a concept on something existant) than straight copycat. Plus I am pretty sure you could draw a parallel to a lot of other group active at that time regarding fashion or other things. But maybe It didn't watch the right songs or MV to compare ? PS : The only good thing in this scandal is that I am happy I discovered JEANS in the process haha

Stop attacking NJ. To be fair, any group(s) that take inspiration from the past will be accused of copying or plagiarizing. If that’s the case, the entire K-pop industry can be accused of copying/appropriating American and black urban culture (now Latin) in terms of music, dance, clothes, etc.

The fundamental difference is..... BTS 5+ years training. Very successful, and have proved the value of their training and hard work. They can sing live. BlackPink 5+ years training. Lesserafim 2 years training. Successful, but cannot sing live (we all heard Cochella performance, 🙄 drowned out by the loud backing track during the 2nd week). Illit. 2 years training (actually I read that one young lady only had 2 only months training before their debut). Can they sing live, apparently not. 3 of the group did a dance only performance, on a show where usually groups sing live. Does Kpop want just dancers who lipsync to backing tracks ? It might make some quick $'s for the Agency, but don't these very young girls deserve and need better care. I read one of the Illit kids (thats all they are) is barely over 15 years 😮

i'll list the things that people accused New Jeans copying from Jeans and address them. 1st is the name. 2nd is Jeans Cd Cover vs Newjeans Album cover. 3rd is two choreography moves. THE NAME: 1st JEANS is not a new thing that was made up for the group. It's something that already exist, so of course there are bands with the word Jeans in the name, for example Blue Jeans, Mom Jeans, Tight White Jeans, etc there are countless. It isn't like Aespa a new name that they made up. 2nd is the Cover Picture. They aren't similar but the name of the type of photography is called Cyanotype and was popular during y2k era. Examples are Brittney spears Album In the Zone, Evanescence Album Fallen, MissE album So addictive, TLC album Fan Mail, etc. 3rd is choreography. One of the moves is literally a Congo Line so thats laughable and the 2nd move is where they bend down and whip back up. That move is from Sensual Bachata Bend Over/Forward Fold Move In which existed since 1960s. It's a dance style from Dominican Republic like The Salsa that came from Cuba and Puerto Rico. None of this was copied from Jeans, since they made none of this, they also just used what was popular when they were out. ILLIT however is a whole different story where Bang Si-Hyuk wants more of full control of New Jeans but had Min hee Jin in the way so told Kim Tae-ho to make a copy so that he had more in the way of control. Nobody is a hero in this story, Bang Si-Hyuk, Min hee Jin, and Kim Tae-ho are all pretty terrible in my opinion but the fact that Illit is a copy of Newjeans still stands. The only innocent ones are the members of Illit and Newjeans.
