I typically see feathers start around day 4, by week 2 their bodies start to be feathered pretty well. Week 3 they look like miniature versions of what they'll be as adults.

How long are you supposed keep rocks in the water dish. Because I have had my quail for like a week now and they all are pretty big so I don’t know if it is safe to take the rocks out yet. I’m so glad you’re finding the videos helpful 😊. As for the rocks, just use your best judgment. They do become mobile quick so take them out and see how they do. If they are climbing all in there and getting wet so may want to leave them for another week. You just don’t want them to get chilled because they can die quick.

My son just had one of his eggs hatch and it’s the cutest. The other 4 have not hatched yet. The one that shell was cracked two days ago has not come out yet. We could see it breathing through the shell and chirping but have not heard it again. This one that hatched completely took us by surprise. We not sure what to do with them going forward once they have all hatched. Still learning. This little guy went to sleep on one of the eggs for about 10min and we heard him chirping. I read that we should keep it in the incubator for 2 days after hatching
@SimplyMadeHomestead
@SimplyMadeHomestead 4 месяца назад
Yes, once hatched they need a couple of days to dry off completely. There is a playlist on my channel for raising quail and I cover everything there from hatch to harvest. As for the one that had cracked its shell, if the incubator was opened before it hatched out completely then it was probably shrink wrapped in the shell. The dry air from the outside of the incubated rushes in and dries out the membrane inside the shell and the baby gets sealed in the egg where they can’t get out. That’s why a high humidity is needed in hatching for the shells to be soft enough for them to break through. But too high humidity, they can drown in their shells. Here is the link to the playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLAs5iHYl7ol9kzHmiprKlB8_hnYZGGK8b&si=J_LOYTmIilYH2MbP Best of luck with your quail! 🌻

@@ScreamPotato yea you’ll love that because those little suckers sure can fly. I unzip one of the doors just enough to get the cord of the heater through. Works great! A little to clean, but I’ve gotten to where I just keep piling the shavings on daily to freshen and it works well. They grow so fast that it works. Then when they move out, you’ve got lots of good stuff to add to the compost.

I'm new to raising quail and have a question about their care. Are there any specific medical treatments, supplements, or vaccinations that young quail chicks need after hatching to ensure their health and proper development? Or do they generally not require anything beyond the normal (of course high-protein) feed (and maybe sometimes vitamins or supplements) throughout their lives -including before they mature into adults-? I hope you understood my question. I don't know if I said the question correctly. And if I didn't give them anything like that would it be fine and safe to consume their eggs once they start laying? I have been confused for a long time and have been searching for weeks, but I cannot find anyone talking about this topic. I searched for it in another language and found many videos they say that quails should be given medicinal things (I don’t know exactly what it is or the names, as I have no experience with these things). Also I've been reading the comments and I appreciate how you answer all questions in the comments section with very detailed explanations!
@abdulrahmanhs8162
@abdulrahmanhs8162 2 месяца назад
Also one more question I'm sorry. If I have a heating plate that doesn't have an adjustment temperature, how do I use it? I know that with adjustable temperature things like a normal red light bulb or a heat plate we decrease it every week by 5f til they're fully feathered but what about if it can't be adjusted? How do they use these?
@SimplyMadeHomestead
@SimplyMadeHomestead 2 месяца назад
All very good questions and my first suggestion is take a deep breath and relax. Raising quail are super easy and I have NEVER used any kind of medications. The first part of their life they do need a protein feed of 28% and then lowered to 22%. I’ve forgotten at what age it’s changed. We no longer have quail only because we now live on a bigger piece of property and have expanded in other areas. Needed to let something go. I have a playlist on raising quail that should answer all of your questions and more. I highly suggest watching them all. There is a lot of information in there from hatching eggs to butchering. The quality of their feed and the protein is what will keep them healthy. They also need grit. I add a small plastic pan in their cage with sand in it and they love it! They flap their wings and cover themselves with it which keeps mites away and eat it which helps them to process their food. Once again, I can’t stress it enough, watch all of the videos, you’ll love them. Quail only live about 2 years max and if housed in clean, not overcrowded conditions, they will live healthy and well. Like any poultry, sometimes they just die which won’t be your fault, just nature. Sometimes they’re may be a bully that is just mean and likes to beat up on everyone. If you see that it’s time for him to go to freezer camp (eliminated) and replaced with a nice male. If you ever do see a wound, gently treat with wound care (blend of iodine and distilled water). If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I hope you enjoy the videos and have a wonderful day!

The vinegar/water solution is 1 T vinegar to every gallon of water. As for the sugar, I just add a little, maybe a Tablespoon. You can use molasses in place of sugar which would probably be better and more natural. We’ve use molasses for our mama goats and pig after birthing to give them a boost.

I’m sorry, I don’t have any experience with valley quail. But be sure to have a thermometer in the brooder (under the heated area) and keep the temp at 95 degrees the first and the. Lower the temp by 5 degrees every week. Make sure they have an area that isn’t under the heat where they can go if they get too hot. If they get chilled they can die quickly. And they don’t like drafts. No fans or open windows until they are fully feathered.
