Two Aircraft Carriers named Enterprise in one video. That was a treat! CVN-65 Enterprise next to CVN-79 JFK and CVN-80 Enterprise under construction. HELL, YEAH!!!

Just sad to see CVN 65 in such a state. In my mind, she's still as ready to go as she was the day I left her, in 1984.

And the US should be spending serious money to preserve the CVN-65 just like USS Nautilus (The first nuclear-powered submarine) was preserved.

@@nicholasmaude6906 Sadly, not possible due to the method required for removal of the reactors. I'm not sure why they couldn't just seal up the power plant accesses and make her a museum, but they didn't.

@@johnjones5354 They could've found away to just simply remove the spent fuel-rod assemblies, drain the coolant, reseal the reactors and close up the deck-plating cutaway to get at the top of the reactors.

I worked on Nimitz class Carriers for 10 of my 27 years at PSNS. Deadload days were always my favorite days. I was always assigned to the 03 level and above, so it was easy for me and my partner to park ourselves somewhere on the island to watch. One time, we managed to "need" to go up to the masthead for a lighting repair. That was the best!

I thought they changed the name. Glad to see that it's still like it has been...amazing all the way from start to finish! Old man named Mr. LaRue taught me welding at TCC around 1986. He was a 42 yr. Veteran of this if I recall correctly. Wish I had joined the yards many many times.

Rather too late as there is a Newport News pr video of the Gerald Ford been built and those areas were not blurred. They blur the torpedo protection/ side tank system in one shot and engines/turbine floor amongst other images. None of which were blurred in the Gerald Ford build pr video. Still shots exist too in the public arena. Basically the side protection system is an evolution design originating with the USS Midway which was an evolution design from the original USS Saratoga of the 1920's. The real change is in materials used, inclination of the inner 'Armour' belt/ torpedo protection system and the depth of its position within the hull.

Agree, we should go back to using traditional names for carriers, not politicians. No disrespect to Doris Miller, but that would have been an excellent name for an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, a pretty badass ship in its own right.

I am from Westmoreland County, Va where George Washington was born and grew up about 4 miles from his Birthplace. I was an AZ2 assigned to the HS-11 Dragon Slayers, on my 2nd deployment in the Navy which was the 3rd deployment of the GW. So to be onboard a ship named after our nation's 1st President who is from my home county was a very awesome experience. '97/'98. A few years later, my brother did a deplyment onboard the GW with the HS-5 Nightdippers. My 3rd and 4th deployments were onboard the U.S.S. Harry S. Truman while I was assigned to the HS-7 Dusty Dogs. '02/'03 & '04/'05. And I did a two week deploment onboard the Stennis with HS-7.
