One of the last Noveltoons (3rd to last, next two are Poop Goes The Weasel and Rabbit Punch) with the original jack-in-the-box and Sammy Timberg's opening theme(or in this case Winston Sharples revised version of it)

Also, head animator Al Eugster's desire to make his characters more angular, especially in the "one-shot" cartoons, makes this one look more modern than some of the cartoons later in the year and even in early 1956 from some of the other units (and given how bland Famous' timing had gotten by the mid-50s, snapping the characters into angular poses was a good way to get a reaction "take" when the shorts were still being fully animated. Once the budgets were cut of course, everything was angular).

Not sure about first one with the re-done 50's intro but I do know that the first Noveltoon was No Mutton Fer Nuttin' so I guess that was the first one.

The jack-in-the-box titles didn't work very well in the widescreen format, since these titles are more vertically oriented, while the cartoons released by Paramount from mid-54 on were made to allow theaters to crop the top and bottom of the image to create a "fake" widescreen cartoon. While they could tighten up the director/animator credits, title page and copyright notice, there wasn't anything they could do with the opening, which probably is why they went to the "modern" titles in mid-'55.

They re-framed the logo slightly so the top and bottom could be matted for widescreen (similar to what Paramount did for Popeye).

Originally released in June 1955, and ANOTHER attempt to create a new "Famous" cartoon star. Jackson Beck is the overbearing "City Editor"; Sid Raymond does his patented "Edward G. Robinson" impression as "Mugsy"...

Did Snapper star in anymore cartoons or was this his only one?
@ChristopherSobieniak

+puccaperson No, that's the irony of a lot of these Noveltoons. They often like to tout new characters but they barely progress beyond one cartoon.

@@ChristopherSobieniak Beany and Cecil and some Warner Bros.Seven Arts shorts (like their 1969 finale to the one shots, RABBIT STEW & RABBITS TOO) did the very same.
