I guarantee no manager at that place told them to do that. There’s just stupid mechanics like this everywhere who do stuff like this trying to make themselves look good. The managers at Goodyear’s don’t know anything about cars so sometimes they’re just as gullible as the customer
@@31jeffburton even though his manager told him to do that, that isn’t an excuse to fuck people over. If my boss told me to fuck everyone over I’d walk out. He’s a grown man not a child.
I'm from Canada and our natonal news network, CBC still has this type of show called Marketplace. A lot of the companies shown are in the US as well so might be worth checking it out.
gearsofwar3xXx you’re lucky. That’s a hell of a deal! 😂 🤘🏼 This shop wanted to charge me $2500 to replace the clutch on my 95 mustang gt lmfao cost me 150 for a new performance clutch kit with the flywheel. Did that shit myself lol just wanted to call and ask to hear the ridiculous prices 😂
I worked at a garage in the early 90s we NEVER screwed anyone over. My boss had a saying cars break easily enough to have plenty of repair work. He said his reputation was worth a lot more than a couple fast bucks. Its a shame more businesses dont think that way
mrbobsshow I miss everything about the 90's... I know life wasn't perfect but it was a hell of a lot better than it is now... the world keeps getting more and more evil tbh.
This here isn't the first time news crews have gone under cover to find shady shit at mechanic shops, My dad tells about a similar event when he was working as a Mechanic. I am not sure if they did two cars in the same place but they hit multiple places with a problem similar to what they rigged in these cars. Of the shops they went to only two of the staff diagnosed and fixed the problem, without trying to pad the bill. There are good and bad people in every walk of life, and as the saying goes, One bad Apple spoils the barrel. The jack asses who try ripping people off are far more commonly talked about than Honest Mechanics.
I'm an independant ase certified master mechanic with over 25 years of experience, and I've never ripped anyone off. Matter of fact most of my work is done pro-bono for people who need it.
Its not the majority. But thgose are the ones you hear about. People think just because something is broken the mechanic is scamming them. Sure in some cases but not most.
My dad fired people for shit like this. This one guy even said "I thought I was doing you a favor!". By tarnishing the reputation and integrity of his business?
I am willing to bet if you pass by the same shop the guy who was supposedly fired is still there and the guy who was supposedly disciplined are probably up to their same tricks.
The fucked up part is, the dude that got fired was probably being pressured into upcharging/scamming people by the manager that made the "apology". Trying to see it through the mechanic's eyes, it was either do an unwarranted upcharge and get payed, or don't do it and get fired anyways. Or he could have just been an asshole.
Agreed, your mamma said. If the manager was actually serious about the situation, he would have fired both men. The fact that the owner didn't just says that he's in on the scam for profit. Sounds like the company needed to fire all three men, the mechanic, the supervisor, and the manager.
When I was young and didn't know shit about cars and my low mileage mustang would barely start or stay running. I took it to a well trusted shop in the Cincinnati area and they told me it was the computer and the wiring to the computer and wanted $3500 to get her up and going. All seemed legit to me, I was a kid. Couldn't afford it so had the car towed home and called the ford dealership to schedule a second opinion and the guy on the phone said WTF, dude, it's your AIC valve, very common. Figured out what and where it was, $50 and 15 minutes. Now, I can tear apart and rebuild most vehicles.
Before I knew better, I had my 5.9 Cummins transmission built for $3500 from “a family friend.” (Scheer’s Automotive in Edmond, OK) He told me that the transmission will keep breaking and I need to get a new truck. A month later, it broke, again. I took it back to him under warranty. He told me that the particular part that broke wasn’t covered and that is need to put a new Jasper transmission in for $6500. I said no. If I want to pay $6500, I will have a true built transmission. I took it to DC transmission in Del City, OK. He took it apart and found that Scheer’s Automotive appeared to have just “quick fixed it.” DC Transmission replaced my torque converter, input shaft, clutch plates, the front drive shaft, and the transfer case drive chain for $1500, and gave me a 1 year warranty. I never had a problem again, not only that, I daily drove it on a 125hp tune. Can’t believe a “family friend” would have fucked me like that.
@@iassessyou3285 Yes, it was. I think everyone should be able to work on their own stuff. I also think everyone should be able to be their own doctor(kinda, I know you can’t do tests and there’s many unknown things in that field) I mean you can literally RU-vid or Google search anything.
After being somewhat ripped off at bigger chain garages, I realised that small private backyard shops actually tell you when repairs aren’t necessary and if they are, you can just drop by on short notice and they do it without wasting money now that the item certainly lives through another 1-2 years.
Any real mechanic knows it's their reputation and they'll do a damn good job at building it. If you try to get a few more dollars out of someone you're not a mechanic, you're a con artist.
@@Big_Ben1988 i dont think you understand, price markups and the price of labor are how you make a profit, thats reasonable, but when you create false issues just to squeeze the cash cow, then thats a scam
I pay for private insurance, and my plan tells me I get a free cleaning every year.... went to the dentist, who said I need a "deep cleaning" and itll cost another $450 (in cash of course) on top of my free cleaning. Makes you think how shitty of a job they must do during a regular cleaning.....
Same. One told me that it looks like I can't get cavities after one drilled for a few minutes on each tooth and filled three with a ton of mercury. Destroyed three teeth and poisoned me just for some extra money.
Always have your dentist take pictures of the cavities before doing any work and submit them to your insurance company for a pre-approval. If the insurance company denies it, then there's a chance it's bullshit.
Goodyear didn't tighten the lug nuts on my wife's jeep and the damn wheel about fell off as she was driving. Had to have studs replaced and they put her life in danger. Screw you goodyear.
I worked at a car stealership back in the day- we had a bunch of criminals working in our shop but had a few guys with integrity. I trust NO ONE in the car repair business. Boy, the stories I could tell . . .
Slow Balt Coming from working at several, we're not shady, but there are the odd dealers that are, but their reputation kicks them in the ass and they usually smarten up. Dealers know what they're doing more than any shitty chain store like Pepboys or some crap like that. If you can't do the work yourself and want it done right, go to a dealer. They know your car better than anyone else.
Ben Dover Absolutely a gorgeous car. I'd recommend one 10/10 times. There aren't enough good things to say about it. However, the new Passat and new Accord may be a bit better. Test drive the three and see what you think.
The problem isn't always just mechanics wanting to screw you over. Some mechanic shop owners tell the mechanics that they need to try and sell as much shit as they can no matter how unnecessary it may be, or else they'll be fired.
WarpRulez Well you can probably get fired for nothing as they can say they're downsizing, or your work was inadequate or some other reason to just let you go. I'm sure you can try and sue them for wrongfully firing you and for what they pushed on you, but unless you have proof, I doubt it'll work. I mean, look at the chris hanson documentary on Jiffy Lube.
EricCris10sen true but the 2nd guy was right if the fuse blew that means there's a problem with the wiring from the switch to the fuse panel. What he didn't know was that they blew the fuse on purpose.
Jimmy Grant, Where did you get your EE degree? Just because a fuse is blown does NOT mean that the cause is in the wiring. BTW, my degree is from U of M. Go Blue.
Once a mecanic tried to sell me a ball joint, cause he heard the sound of my subwoofer when he started the car, a few years later, still don't got any problems with my ball joints
Uh no. Those two aren't even in the same league. Scotty's the worst lying butthurt scammer ever. I believe he got his start back in the 80's by rolling back odometers for cash in Houston.
@@beezertwelvewashingbeard8703 Dude why are you so hateful with your comment? Did he hurt you personally at some point? He's just trying to earn a living by fixing cars and running a RU-vid channel. If he had something to hide then he surely wouldn't be posting videos all over the internet with his face in them. The only questionable part about his character to some that might find disagreement to is his biased nature towards Toyotas but that is just opinion and no harm to anyone.
Learn how to work on your own car and you won't have these problems. I've done everything from replacing rings and bearings in the engine to changing friction discs and valve body seals in the transmission, and I'm not a mechanic. Just gotta be brave enough to take it apart and motivated enough to find the information to do it right.
+Marbles McGee often the tools cost less than paying someone else to do it, not always but often, even if the tools cost twice as much, you'll most likely use them to do other things on your vehicle so every time you use them the initial outlay is sort of reduced.
I reckon I can build that Don't tell me that the average person has the time and money to do their own car maintenance other than basic, easy to get to tasks. Replacing the rings and bearings is not a job for amateurs.
Well to be fair either A. Your time is valuable enough that these cheap scams don't really matter. or B. Your broke enough that it makes sense to learn to do it yourself. I'm not saying there isn't any overlap but still.
Special EDy you seem pretty stupid. I could say the same to you if there was an epidemic of doctor scams. But im guessing you're too stupid to bother with that and somehow think your cheap car is related to your masculinity so you should be familiar with it? Get this marketing ploy out of your head. No civilized human being with an actual job cares about maintaining metal parts; just keep the worthless mechanics in line
It's not one person who tarnishes the service of others, as the manager said, it's that that one person's lies cost someone thousands of dollars, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and financial hardship. Getting told that you need an expensive repair, especially when you don't have the money, is a horrific experience. So many people rely on their car for their livelihood, so when someone is made to believe that their livelihood will be affected they start to panic.
People should learn how to check their damn fuses, that is normally the biggest scam, I have seen people pay hundreds of dollars to replace shit when it was just a fuse,
im ok12 Yes occasionally, but generally if the fuse blows almost immediately after then you know there's another issue, I had a check engine light on my Toyota Camry I googled the code specific for my car and it turned out to be a fuse, I change the fuse and the issue never happened again, imagine if I had went to one of these hacks
im ok12 P0560 something about low-voltage, I went on auto codes.com and enter the code and my vehicle and it tells you the common reason for that code for your specific vehicle, and it turned out that the EFI fuse being blown is one of the causes for the code, the OBD wouldn't reset and when I checked the fuse it was blown, I changed it and was able to reset the computer www.google.com/amp/s/www.autocodes.com/amp/codes/p0560_2011_toyota_camry.html
im ok12 ALWAYS check fuses But again you can always find the code and look at the most common issue and fix specific to your vehicle instead of just looking at the Code by itself see how it applies to your vehicle ... saves time lol
10 years ago, July 2009, I went to a Goodyear store at Dobson and Main, AZ The crew stood around like I was not even there. No one at the front desk to help me so I walked out and I did not go back until four months ago. Hey everybody deserves a second chance. Same thing happened, no one in the front office and every one at a BS meeting. I worked for Goodyear in the late sixties and it is very sad to see how poor the service has become. All of the crew I worked with would never have let a customer come in without greeting him/her and asking them what we could do for them. So now I will not go back to another Goodyear store until July of 2029.
I had multiple incidents with auto shops n that’s when I said enough started buying tools n fixing my own vehicles. Haven’t been to a shop in ten years 👍🏼
A few years ago I took my 1997 Ranger in to a Good Year shop and they told me I needed to use platinum plugs. The reception area was half full and in front of every one I said "Really? Why is that?" They said that they were what the manufacturer recommended. I said "My car has been running fine with regular plugs...the type of plugs it came out of the factory with...for more than a decade." and I added that if they pop the hood in front of me, and pull the plugs, if they were platinum I would pay them double. They declined. I then asked for my keys and told all the guys waiting that they had better change the shop they use because they have just seen how this one rips people off.
Very nice. I get that a lot from pep boys, firestone, goodyear and heck even some hippy lubes do these type of works now!!! LISTEN! IF ITS NOT BROKEN DON'T REPLACE IT. IF ITS NOT RUNNING ROUGH OR HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES DO NOT AUTHORIZE REPAIRS THIS IS CALLED UP SELL.
actually, no that is called maintenance. I'm a mechanic and one of the most important things one can do to to keep their engines in great condition is to change plugs regularly. I always did on any car i owned and always benefited. Right now, i drive a 2012 C250 with a 1.8T gas engine, and i changed my plugs at 40,000km, even though the manu recommends it to be done at 60K. I can tell you that at 40k after changing my plugs, i noticed a nice increase in power and gas mileage. Why wait until its broken when you can keep it running at pristine condition always. It's not the right mentality with cars to wait until it's broken, especially ENGINES. Engines have to be maintained so carbon buildup doesn't happen, and that is done with good gasonline, regular plug changes, and frequent oil changes. I always recommend doing any service, sooner than what the manufacturer recommends, and i DO IT on my own cars, and i'm a mechanic for 10 years.
I do most of my own work. But if there's something I don't want to take on, by the time I've decided I'm not doing it and hand the job over to a mechanic... I've already researched the sh*t out if it. And this is evident in our discussion.
my wife and her girlfriend change the oil in the girlfriend's car one day. they came into the house all pleased with themselves, I asked them what they did with the used oil... They said "what used oil?" they they changed the filter but didn't drain the old oil out and added 5 quarts of new on top. LOL
lol lol...i had a buddy of mine bring his car to a jiffy lube...they forgot to add oil engine seized 2 miles down the road. took months in court before they paid for new motor.
Yea but who would the majority of the targets be? Most guys no the common shit about cars, there are a lot girls I've been around that don't know two shits about cars...lets not try and make it seem like being a girl in this sisutation isn't a bad thing
What really pisses me off is that if I knew I could trust a mechanic, I would take my car to them for EVERYTHING. Even the shit I could do myself! If I knew I could trust my mechanic to take care of things without ripping me off or lying to me, I'd bring it to them for everything from oil changes to inspections to major repairs. But the second I find out I'm getting fucked, I will NEVER go to that mechanic again. So I don't understand why so many shops think dishonesty for some quick money is the best long term policy.
I order 5 gallon oil drums, boxes of parts and do things myself. Brakes, gearboxes and engines are no issue anymore. Now to build that tyre bead breaker and do that myself too!
This is kind of like when homeowners tell me what the workers at Home Depot say versus what I tell them.. my usual response is well being that they work at Home Depot they must know everything
The mechanics industry is 90% full of scams i once took my 2005 Chrysler Sebring for oil change, which should cost only $20. and the mechanic told me that i needed to replace "the oil drain plug" because it was broken and could leak oil on the road, and he said it will cost around $260. The next day, i went to another mechanic for oil change, and he actually changed the oil without any issues, i even asked him was the drain plug broken, he said everything was fine. So i got my oil change done for $20. Then i went back to the previous mechanic and told him that he is a lying scumbag, and he said i never would have scammed my true customers, and i laughed and said fuck off and drove off
Smartest thing to do is to take your car to the actual car dealership get a full inspection. Pay it get the entire issues and the qoute then go find another shop to find a cheaper deal. The dealership know your car perfectly so they will find exactly what's the problem.
My father interviewed with Goodyear in the 80s and they wanted him to sell parts that weren’t needed. He refused got another job and now runs his own garage with an excellent client base. It pays to do good honest work.
Our family shop has morals & standards..We've been in business since 1970..my dad & his brother started a good customer relationship with honesty & fair rates
Im a technician for sears, this really putting my job title in the dirt. We look for abnormalities then see what the problem is, not just throw out repairs or services. This is giving technicians a bad rep.
Lol whenever I get bored and have nothing to do on a weekend; sometimes I’ll go in for a problem and act dumb just to see what kind of bs these guys will make up then I start asking complicated questions in a dumb way and the look on their faces are priceless! 🤪😏
We had a Goodyear store here, same set up. I took it in for some brake work...then drove to New York, when I got there, I was having 'SURPRISE' brake problems...they had incorrectly installed a new brake line...Given the age of the car, I doubt it needed it...but did not argue, I needed to leave. My Uncle owned the work shop, I am 'savvy' (have restored more than one car)... saw what they had done when it was up on the rack. I got the receipt and came back to Goodyear...got an argument and they got no more business...and lots of negative press. I also noticed they were not in business any more...same sorta bull roar.
My dad's car had his a/c quit, compressor leaking at the shaft's seal. I installed a new compressor (not reman) accumulator, and filter + orifice tube, went to Goodyear for the flush and fill A/C... "We don't work on customer installed parts, we gotta do all the work"
I've seen too many friends who say they have a family mechanic that they've unconditionally trusted for years but I've found most of them to be ripoff artists like these guys. Most people's friends don't have a clue about cars and just trust their smiling mechanic. There's a reason why I do my own work on my car.
In all of my years in having different cars worked on, I found the smaller shops are more honest. They don't need to compete for business, so they fix your car accordingly and have other cars waiting to be fixed. They don't need to make up fake work.
Goodyear. I used to go to a local Goodyear shop in my town that my family trusted for a brake issue in which I felt a pulsating in the seat when braking and a chirping noise. They lubed behind the shoes, cleaned and adjusted the brakes, both of which were a few hundred dollars each, and the problem kept coming back. I eventually took it to a my local Honda dealership service center and they said it was because of a stuck brake cylinder and aftermarket brakes and recommended new Honda brakes. I was hesitant for a while but eventually decided that I wasn't risking forking out another couple hundred just to hope that the brakes would be fixed and let Honda put the brakes and new cylinder on. The brakes have never felt this good, and the parking brake used to go up really high, higher than it should, and now it only goes up half what it used to because of the new and right brakes. It's upsetting how Goodyear couldn't figure out what was wrong, even after hundreds of dollars of repairs that were essentially just putting a band-aid on the problem, but Honda spotted it immediately and made the brakes feel the best they've felt since I bought the car. Don't think I'll be going to Goodyear ever again, and not will my family.
The worst is when you are a mechanic. But you are 1000 miles from home, and you lose a water pump. I could argue all day with the shop I was towed to, but, it cost me a grand and a night in a hotel anyway. IF I had taken my tools along, I could have bought the 200 dollar water pump, and done it myself in the hotel parking lot lol. But, they know when they own you. You are at their mercy.
Before I knew better, I had my 5.9 Cummins transmission built for $3500 from “a family friend.” (Scheer’s Automotive in Edmond, OK) He told me that the transmission will keep breaking and I need to get a new truck. I'm a mechanic and the shop I work for also has a used car lot. They have been in business for over 50 years. Family owned and operated. My boss showed me several instances where a shop could screw a customer over and over charge for lies. Our shop gets a lot of business from people who got screwed at other places.
So i cant spell right.....big fingers small buttons.....sue me and fuck off about it. Just answer the fucking question kuz if all your doing is trolling for spelling errors your wasting my and everyones time. Either participate in the conversation or zip it.
Here we go again! Never...I repeat NEVER EVER, go to Pep Boys for service. I had an alignment done there and after about 2 months, my car pulled to the right. It was under warranty so I took it back there today. The "mechanic"??? tried to tell me that I needed a wheel bearing and an outer tie rod at a cost of $561.00. After I was done laughing at him I left. So I went to Ernie's Auto 452 & Meetinghouse Rd. "Your welcome Ernie" He checked my car & it only needed a tie rod, at $76 screw PEP BOYS!
I've had an alignment done with a bad wheel bearing and it lasted a couple of months and I didn't expect it to even last that long. Also a bad tie rod can cause issues to. I've seen a car with 300 miles on it come in with a bad tie rod and the guy was expecting warranty. Nope. He had a cracked rim and evidence of smashing a curb. Customer pay on that one. It's not just mechanics that try to screw the customer. It's also the customer trying to screw the mechanic. It goes both ways. Also if you buy cheap parts expect them to break faster. Your safety is not worth the extra 30 dollars of savings for one part. I am a mechanic and I'm one of the most brutally honest ones. I hate working for dealers and these little shops like pepboys. All they say is up sell, up sell, up sell and it pisses me off. But being a mechanic I take the blame for shit I never even touched or had anything to do with the original problem. So it honestly goes both ways pretty bad. As a mechanic even an honest one I'm considered the bad guy for charging someone 100 dollars to put basically a new from end on a vehicle which is pretty cheap. I mostly became a mechanic because I love cars and working on them but it's just to much of a hassle to have everyone breathing down my neck all the time to get everything done quickly.
Here's the thing, there's no bad wheel bearing. And even if it did the cost of replacing both would not come anywhere near that ridiculous price. The facts are you could take a brand new car pep boys weather wrong with it you want and we will end up saying they need other things when you don't it happens every single time every single person that goes there I wonder how many little old ladies go there member bank accounts drained simply because just don't know what's going on. Pretty much using scare tactics
I apologize for the sometimes incoherent texting I'm using the voice recognition and as usual it's never accurate maybe my phone needs a wheel bearing... lol
“Well, of course their trying to screw you. That’s what they do... no one knows. They can make up anything. “Yeah, you need a new johnson rod” “ oh a johnson rod huh? Well, you better put one of those on.”-george costanza
My dad is a mechanic and he always told me reputation is gonna get you more money in the long run, because the customers will keep coming back once they realize your doing honest business compared to others💯
If it was thousands of Kilmers there would be millions of dollars made from clickbait videos and they wouldn't even need to run a repair shop, and they would say their shop is being closed 39 times.
All big brand car shops are rip offs, u gotta go to the Mexican shady cheap looking shops those don’t rip u off ... and they sell u everything atleast 100 times cheaper than big brand shops
One time i went to a local Jiffy Lube to get an oil change,it was being run by a female mechanic and she was great then we talked and talked and ended up Having sex after hours in her office then I remembered I change my own oil.
Any other guys extremely turned on by female mechanics? I'm fairly good with cars so I guess it's just a mutual respect thing, I dunno, but that woman is a 10/10.
They don't know that you blew the fuse on purpose. They are thinking, Why did the fuse blow?? A fuse doesn't just blow because it goes bad. Fuse blows when you have major wiring issues. Second mechanics are right. lol I had one car for 25 years and never had a blown fuse or any headlight or wiper issues. But when I bought a second car that was wrecked a few times, that one always had fuses going bad on it. I would replace the fuse and it would blow again within a month. So the fuse isn't the problem.
Y10Q you're right, a fuse is meant to show an operator that something is wrong in the wiring or a spark of voltage. The mechanic was doing what he should people just don't have anything better to do rather than bitch
I used to work at an oil change shop. I tried doing the most I can WITHOUT charging the customer. To have a good heart in today's society, FUCKING SUCKS!
Brake shops are the worst. My cousin went to a local brake shop and they told her, her pads were worn and needed to be replaced and rotors had to be turned. She asked me to replace her pads for her, when I took them off they still looked knew, not much less than new pads. The rotors had no marks and we're smooth as glass.
The guys that I take my truck to are very honest! In fact, they are too honest! Glad that I found them! I'll NEVER take my truck or cars anywhere else!
When I worked for Pep Boys we were told to always push for an oil change no matter what the customer brought their car in for. If they brought it in specifically for an oil change, we were told to push for the top of the line oil change. We would lie and tell them that their car was designed for top of the line synthetic oil, and lower quality oil could potentially damage their car; but we never flat out scammed anyone like this.
As a 30 year tech. I congratulate you! One of the dirtiest shops in Lagrange Ga is Lee's Crossing Tire and Service!!! Especially with older people!!!!!!!!!!!
